School Hours<strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> <strong>Collegiate</strong> General InformationThe regular school hours at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> <strong>Collegiate</strong> are 8:30 am – 12 noon <strong>and</strong> 1:11 pm – 3:30 pm.September 2012 ScheduleThursday, August 30 thGrade 9 student <strong>and</strong> Parent Information Session 7:00 – 8:00 pm.Administration will go over policies <strong>and</strong> procedures that Grade 9students <strong>and</strong> parents should be aware of.Wednesday, September 5 thThursday, September 6 thTuesday, September 11 thFriday, September 14 thMonday, September 17 thFriday, September 28 thFirst day of the new school year! Only Grade 9 students <strong>and</strong> studentsnew to the school are to attend in the morning from 8:30 to 11:15.There will be a BBQ from 11:15 to 12:45 – free of charge. At 1:10pm allstudents attend for the afternoon.Regular school day. Classes start at 8:30 am.School Picture <strong>Day</strong>Last day for timetable changes.Meet the Teacher Barbecue – 5:00 – 6:30 pm; followed by a brief parentadvisory meeting from 6:30 – 7:00 pmGrade 9 Mid-Nighter (4:00 pm – midnight). Grade 9 students spend theevening at the school having fun <strong>and</strong> learning the culture of the school.Wednesday, October 3 rdReporting AbsencesFall Awards 7:00 pm <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> Anglican Church. This recognizesthe student academic achievements from the previous schoolyear. This is for the grade 10 through 12 students.It is very important that the school be informed (by phone) by the parent or guardian, within24 hours of the student’s return to school, if an absence is to be considered excused.Messages before 8:00 am may be left on our general office voice mail (888-4867). Any changesto phone numbers or address should be reported to the office as soon as possible, to allow usto be able to contact someone in case of an emergency.Supply ListsThere are no supply lists for high school students. Binder, loose leaf paper, pens, pencils <strong>and</strong>ruler are the st<strong>and</strong>ard requirements. Teachers will inform students if any additional suppliesare needed.<strong>St</strong>aff/PD MeetingsPlease note, the 1 st <strong>and</strong> 3 rd Tuesday of each month will be staff meeting/PD days, resulting inearly dismissal at 2:40 pm. Teachers also participate in a PD session every Tuesday morningfrom 8:30 – 9:00 am. Therefore, school starts at 9:00 am every Tuesday. Please see theenclosed Divisional School <strong>Day</strong> Calendar for staff/PD meetings, inservice days <strong>and</strong> holidays. Ifyou have questions or require further information, do not hesitate to contact the school.


<strong>Opening</strong> <strong>Day</strong>Wednesday, September 5 th , 2012MORNING SESSION****** ONLY GRADE 9 STUDENTS ANDSTUDENTS NEW TO THE SCHOOL****8:30 – 9:15am All new students report to the theatre for a presentationby the administration.9:15 – 10:00am All new students report to their TAP (homeroom)teacher10:00 – 10:45am <strong>St</strong>udent report back to the theater for a presentation on“Digital Citizenship”10:45 - 11:15am <strong>St</strong>udents complete a scavenger hunt. The winner ofwhich will receive a prize.11:15 – 12:45am Barbeque on the basketball court at the back of theschool. <strong>St</strong>udent council hosts this for all students in theschool.AFTERNOON SESSION****** ALL STUDENTS ******1:10 – 1:40 All students report to TAP GROUP for attendance.Your TAP Teacher Location is posted in the front foyerLockers/locks 10 – 12 (grade 9s should have them from the morning)Distribution of school picture order forms (pictures Sept. 11th.)Insurance applicationsSchool CalendarMention to everyone that as they go to their classes, if they are not on theclass list of a teacher they have on their timetable that there has likely beena timetable change that they need to see the office about.1:40 – 2:00 Period 12:00 – 2:20 Period 22:20 – 2:40 Period 3(5 minute break)2:45 – 3:05 Period 53:05 – 3:30 Period 61. Take their attendance2. Use overhead to briefly discuss Course Outline but don’t h<strong>and</strong> out yet.3. Let them know that Friday Sept 14 th is the last day for timetablechanges. Also classes are extremely full so changes that are based onwanting to be with a friend, likely will not be entertained. The changehas to be one that is in the best interests of the students needs.4. Talk with them about their expectations for the class <strong>and</strong> for the year.Regular timetable starts Thursday morning September 6 th
