SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAMME
1. A holistic approach to education requires students’ involvement in a wide array of programmes which aim at increasing social awareness
through community service.
2. Community work is an essential component of the all-round education offered at St Aloysius. It is not a question of adding to a schedule already
burdened with obligations. It is more the taking on of a lifestyle that takes other human beings into account and ultimately leads to God.

3. Community work placements may be in support teaching programmes for children, with persons with disabilities, in homes for the elderly, in
parish work and Christian movements, in environmental initiatives, and in similar undertakings approved by the Management. Students are
encouraged to go beyond a narrow view of fulfilling the 55-hour placement during their first year at sixth form and to engage generously in other
opportunities such as the Blood Drive. The following list is a panorama of opportunities for community work in
which students may be involved.
Students may be inolved in
• Children’s Programmes in a variety of organisations run by religious orders, local councils or government agencies; support teaching to children
with different learning needs
• Youth Ministry, through the Chaplaincy Team, INYGO (the Ignatian Youth Network) and a variety of other groups and communities sponsored
by youth movements and parish churches
• Non-Governmental Organisations and other nonprofit groups serving people in several different situations
• Homes for the Elderly, particularly those run by the Church
• Environmental Initiatives within the College and elsewhere
• Services to College such as Stage crew and Students’ Council
• Organisation of Sports Events
• and other areas where their service may be required, by prior agreement with the Management.
Students undertaking a programme of service are required to complete it, irrespective of the
number of hours they have fulfilled.
