BIFA FREIGHT SERVICE
AWARDS 2008
INTRODUCTION
This year, the BIFA Freight Service Awards celebrate their 20th anniversary. The
well-established competition has always been sponsored by some eminent companies,
and is recognised as one of the most prestigious in the industry, with the awards
themselves becoming increasingly more coveted every year.
The competition encourages and rewards high standards and professionalism, representing
the ultimate recognition of special achievements in different sectors of the industry. Past
finalists and winners have been able to feel very proud of their certificates and trophies,
as well as benefiting from enhanced company profiles through substantial media coverage
in the trade press, and high visibility at the awards ceremony itself.
The ceremony luncheon is an annual event on the industry calendar. This year’s special
20th anniversary function will take place on Thursday 22 January 2009 at its traditional venue,
The Brewery, in the City of London, and will be hosted by the Rt. Hon. Michael Portillo. This
gathering of some 450 BIFA members and their guests provides a very valuable opportunity
to praise the well-deserving winners, as well as networking with colleagues, customers and
other industry representatives.
BIFA looks forward to yet another successful competition with a large number of entrants.
BIFA FREIGHT SERVICE AWARDS 2008
MAIN AWARDS
AIR FREIGHT AWARD
SPONSORED BY: BRITISH AIRWAYS WORLD CARGO
The Air Freight category is open to companies providing air freight services.
Recent Winners 2007: Schenker Limited; 2006: Kuehne + Nagel Ltd.
British Airways World Cargo is delighted to continue to support the BIFA Awards for another year with its
sponsorship of the 2008 Air Freight category. As one of the world’s leading air cargo carriers, BA World Cargo
works closely with its customers in the UK and worldwide to provide effective logistics solutions.
A customer loyalty programme, LIFT, introduced in October 2007, has taken off in the UK marketplace. The pioneering
programme rewards and recognises a significant proportion of the carrier’s valued customers. The carrier also
recognises its larger multinational customers with its highly successful one+one partner programme.
Currently the only UK registered commercial airline to have been awarded a Cargo 2000 Quality Certificate,
BA World Cargo aims to deliver high levels of service for its customers. Later this year BA is starting direct services
between London and Hyderabad with five Boeing 777 services per week. This will bring the number of Indian cities
served to six, and the total flights to India to 48 each week. This new route will increase cargo capacity to and from
the region by 2,500 tonnes per annum.
BA World Cargo works closely with BIFA to help strengthen the UK freight industry and effectively tackle the
challenges ahead.
ENVIRONMENT AWARD
SPONSORED BY: CARGOWISE EDI
The Environment category is open to companies wishing to present a specific ‘green’
initiative or case study which shows consideration for the environment, or demonstrates
a reduction in carbon footprint.
Environmental greening is a foremost topic in today’s global economy. Shippers and freight forwarders are seeking
clear and cost-efficient ways to reduce their carbon footprint throughout the supply chain.
CargoWise edi is proud to have facilitated customers’ green initiatives for years. Our ediEnterprise integrated
software system provides a paperless approach to logistics operations, reducing the global paper trail and
facilitating the push toward a paper free office and a greener environment.
ediEnterprise’s highly modular, ERP-like system streamlines the operations, accounts and management processes
of freight forwarders, customs brokers, depots, container freight stations, and trucking companies, and supports
the automation of the highly fragmented logistics process of international supply chain service providers.
Automating a robust integrated documentation and storage process with new technologies makes sense if we are
to create a more paperless environment and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted. The highly flexible
design of ediEnterprise permits processes and reports to be tailored to suit individual companies and even
individual jobs, easily customising processes on a client-by-client and region-by-region basis. Tasks are scheduled
and batched for individual operators; and shipments run like clockwork – hassle-free, stress-free and error-free.
Most importantly, clients realise significantly improved and dependable automated supply chain services;
operating costs are reduced; and the ability to win (and retain) clients takes a giant, paperless leap forward.
