Nora Demleitner served as a presenter on a
roundtable entitled “Multiple Perspectives on
Civil Disabilities” and moderated another
roundtable on “Legal Challenges and Reforms in
the U.S., Canada, and Abroad” at a SUNY-
Buffalo Law School/Baldy Center conference on
the civil disabilities of prisoners on October 18-
20.
Eric Freedman moderated the history panel at
the SALT teaching conference on 9/11 held at
Fordham Law School on October 12.
Monroe Freedman participated on an October
9 panel at the Association of the Bar of the City
of New York on the ethics of judges attending
expenses-paid seminars.
Leon Friedman addressed the annual meeting of
the National Association of Former United States
Attorneys on September 7 in Washington.
Bernie Jacob introduced a panel at Hofstra
University’s Sacco-Vanzetti conference on
October 4.
Eric Lane presented a paper entitled “A New
York Perspective on Boroughs and
Governmental Reform” at a Haynes Foundation

conference on “Reform, Los Angeles Style: The
Theory and Practice of Urban Governance at
Century’s Turn,” held at the University of
Southern California School of Policy, Planning,
and Development on September 19.
Theo Liebmann presented a portion of a
Practising Law Institute program on Ethical
Considerations in Children’s Law Practice on
September 4th.
Linda McClain presented a paper entitled
“Families and Self-Government” at a Brooklyn
Law School faculty workshop on September 12.
On October 10, she presented a paper entitled
“Marriage and Social Health: Marriage
Promotion, Marriage (E)quality, and Welfare
Reform” at NYU Law School’s Colloquium in
Law, Philosophy, and Political Theory.
Richard Neumann served on an ABA site team
inspecting the School of Law at St. Thomas
University in Minneapolis and wrote the Program
of Legal Study section of the site inspection
report.
Alan Resnick was the moderator of a program
on the implications of Enron before the American
College of Bankruptcy held on October 2 in
Chicago.
Andy Schepard made a presentation to the New
England Bar Association on Multidisciplinary
Services and the Judicial System, in Freeport,
Maine, on October 10.

HONORS AND APPOINTMENTS
Eric Freedman has been named Reporter to the
2d edition of the ABA Guidelines for the
Appointment and Performance of Defense
Counsel in Death Penalty Cases, which will be
presented for approval to the House of Delegates
in February.
Norm Silber’s book, A Corporate Form of
Freedom, was haled as “superb” and
“pathbreaking” in the annual book review issue of

the Michigan Law Review.
Roy Simon has been appointed to the
Committee on Professional and Judicial Ethics of
the Association of the Bar of the City of New
York and was named chairperson of its
Subcommittee on Inadvertent Disclosure.
