To meet specific CAUTI and SCIP Guidelines the Urinary Catheter
Reason field has been updated: Free text is no longer available
Based upon Urinary Catheter Reason response, after 24 hours,
clinicians will receive the new alert: Urinary Catheter Management
except for when the patient has been identified as having a Chronic
urological condition, Patient on comfort care or Urology patient.
Urinary Catheter Management Alert
The Urinary Catheter Management alert will continue to fire
every 24 hours until the foley catheter has been discontinued.
.
.
Upon reassessment, if there is a change in patient status and Chronic urological
condition, Patient on comfort care or Urology patient is documented, the alert will stop
firing
When the alert opens, the user’s name will automatically be defaulted in to associate
the provider’s name to the order.
For those not responsible in managing the catheter, documenting Clinician
not managing urinary catheter will satisfy the alert.
Remember to sign the form by clicking on the green check mark in the upper
left hand corner.
Urinary Management-Continue Indwelling Catheter
Once the order for Urinary Management-Continue Indwelling Catheter has been
placed, the alert will cease firing for a 24 hour period.
• Clinicians responsible for managing the urinary
catheter will need to reassess the patient’s need for
catheter every 24 hours and document reason in the
alert.
• Once alert has been addressed, the alert will stop
firing until the following day.
• If patient has been identified as having a chronic
urological condition, on comfort care or as a urology
