Concert Etiquette
I.

Lovebirds: Do not lean your heads together; you block the view of the person
behind you. Leaning forward also blocks the view.

Do not talk, hum, sing along or beat time with any body part.

wait for a pause or intermission before rifling through a purse, backpack or
other bags.

Do not leave the show while it is still in progress (except for emergency, of
course).

The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra offers an outstanding full
orchestral experience to dedicated, talented and responsible
young musicians in the West Tennessee area.
Students in the 2008-2009 orchestra are from throughout
West Tennessee, including
Jackson, Bolivar, Milan, Trenton, Brownsville, Martin, Dyersburg,
Medina, Humboldt and Hohenwald.
Membership is through audition only.

Mr. Tim Goodwin, Assistant Professor (B.M., M.M. - University of Miami), is very active in the recording industry and performs
across the United States as a bassist. He has performed with numerous jazz artists including Lee Konitz, George Colemen, Pepper
Adams, Art Farmer, Michele LeGrand, Jon Hendricks, Phineas Newborn, Mose Allison, and many others.
Mr. Goodwin was bassist of a trio which was selected to participate in the Kennedy Center “Jazz Ambassadors” program to present
jazz performances and lectures around the world. As well as coordinating the jazz vocal activities at the University of Memphis, Mr.
Goodwin conducts the Grammy® in the Schools All-Star Jazz Choir. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of
Miami and Miami-Dade Community College and joined the University of Memphis as a faculty member in 1984.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio (and a former Harvard University Engineering student), saxophonist/composer/educator Don Braden
l has toured the world with jazz greats Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Williams, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Haynes, and many others.
He has recorded on nearly fifty CDs as a sideman and has produced thirteen CDs as a leader, the latest of which is “Workin’”, released
in 2006 on the HighNote label. He has composed music for countless concerts, for all of his CDs and for a number of independent
l films; plus he spent four years as composer for the CBS sitcom “Cosby” and has written for “Little Bill.” In 2000, he was one of the
recipients the Doris Duke Foundation New Works composer’s grant.
He works extensively as an educator, teaching for Litchfield Performing Arts, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the Prins
A Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Holland. He worked for eight years as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University, and has

Dr. Nola Jones is the Director of Bands at the University of Tennessee Martin. Prior to her appointment at UT Martin, she served as the Associate Director of
Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northern Arizona University. A native of Mississippi, Dr. Jones has enjoyed a successful career as a middle
school and high school band director in Mississippi and Tennessee.
Dr. Jones received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University and the Master of Music Education degree from Mississippi College.
She received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in wind band conducting from the University of South Carolina where she was a student of Dr. William J. Moody.

Richard L. Saucedo is currently Director of Bands and Department Chairman at the William H. Duke Center for the Performing Arts at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. Under his
direction, Carmel bands have received numerous state and national honors in the areas of concert band, jazz band and marching band. The CHS Wind Symphony has performed at the Bands
of America National Concert Band Festival three times (1992, 1999, and 2004) and performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago during December of 2005. The Carmel
Marching Greyhounds have finished in the top ten at the Bands of America Grand National Championship for the past 13 years and were named National Champions in the fall of 2005. The
Indiana Bandmasters Association named Mr. Saucedo Indiana’s “Bandmaster of the Year” for 1998-99.
Mr. Saucedo is a freelance arranger and composer, having released numerous marching band arrangements, concert band works and choral compositions. He is
currently on the writing staff for the Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation. His first DVD on the subject of rehearsing the marching band wind section (Dynamic
Music) has just been published by the Hal Leonard Corporation. Mr. Saucedo is also on the staff of the newly formed company, Dynamic Marching.
Mr. Saucedo travels throughout the country as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor for concert band, jazz band, marching band, and orchestra. He has
been a featured clinician for the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Arkansas Bandmasters Association,
the Colorado Music Educators Association, the California Music Educators Association and the Indiana Music Educators Association. Mr. Saucedo will be the
conductor of the Arizona All-State Band and the Mississippi All-State Band in 2009. Mr. Saucedo is the former brass composer/arranger for the Cavaliers Drum
and Bugle Corps in Rosemont, Illinois. The Cavaliers won the DCI World Championship five times between 2000 and 2006 using music by Mr. Saucedo.
Mr. Saucedo did his undergraduate work at Indiana University in Bloomington and finished his master’s degree at Butler University in Indianapolis. He is also
an aviation enthusiast and a certified private pilot. Mr. Saucedo is married to his wife Sarah and is most proud of his daughter, Carmen, who is in 12th grade
and studies voice. The newest member of the Saucedo family is son Ethan David, who was born on December 8, 2006.
