From the Principal
This Friday 28 th June sees the end of
another great term! Congratulations to
the students who have worked so very
hard. We sincerely thank the teachers
and staff for their outstanding work and
dedication. Thank you also to the wonderful band of parents
who have supported our school in so many ways this term,
either through classroom help, canteen duties and with our
fundraising efforts. Huge thanks to Bede Maher and Belinda
Playfair and their hardworking committee members for their
fantastic efforts so far this half year. We would like to wish all
students and their families a very safe, relaxing and enjoyable
break. Staff and students return to school on Monday 15 th
July.
This Thursday 27 th June our school will sadly say farewell to
Mrs Rebecca Ryan, Primary Aboriginal Education Assistant,
and Mrs Katherine Kerr, Primary Minilit Tutor. We thank them
both immensely for their contribution to our school and wish
them every success in their future endeavours.
On Friday 14 th June, members of the State Priority Committee
visited the Infants Campus to discuss our application for the
Commonwealth Building Grant. If successful this grant, in
conjunction with other school funds, will be put towards
refurbishing our Infants Classrooms on the park side. We will
not know the outcome of this funding application until the end
of the school year, after the Federal Election in September.
VALUE FOR THE WEEK:
Last Tuesday at our School Board Meeting the decision was
made to purchase 30 Laptops and 20 IPads. This commitment
will also be matched with a further 30 Laptops and 20 IPads from
Literacy funding. In addition, each Kindergarten classroom has an
XO laptop for every Kinder child to use. We are fortunate to have
such wonderful resources for teaching and learning at St Ed’s.
Principal’s Appraisal – On Thursday 25 th July I will be appraised
by a panel of representatives from the Catholic Schools Office.
You are invited to contribute to the gathering of information that
will be used to review my leadership. A letter outlining the
purpose and scope of the survey went home today. We ask
parents to complete the survey either online at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/gmcsweeney_parentsurvey or
a hard copy of the survey can be obtained from either school
office. Please note the survey must be completed and returned
by Friday 19 th July.
Newcastle Permanent Society Home Loan Applications –
Newcastle Permanent Society has approached our school and is
offering a donation referral fee of $600 for every home loan
application approved by them from a St Ed’s family. Any parents
who are thinking of obtaining a home loan might like to look at
Newcastle Permanent considering all things equal with other
Banks. Please mention our school in your application process
and be assured that everything is strictly confidential about your
loan application.
2013 NAIDOC Week Celebrations – Thurs 27 th June
We will be celebrating “NAIDOC Week” this
Thursday 27 th June in the Primary Campus
Hall at 12 noon. The theme for NAIDOC
Week 2013 is “We value the vision:
Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963”. All Infants
children will travel by bus, free of charge, at 11.40am to go to the
Primary Campus for the celebrations. Please feel free to come
along and join in our celebrations with a Liturgy and performances
by students and specials guests. The Infants children will stay at
the Primary Campus for lunch and after lunch the children will
work with “buddy classes” on a craft activity, before returning to
the Infants to go home in the normal way.
MUFTI DAY – this Friday 28 th June
This coming Friday 28 th June, all students (K-6)
are requested to come out of school uniform in
mufti clothes. Closed in shoes must also be worn. Our school is
raising money for those families who are affected by cancer. We
are asking all students to bring a gold coin donation in support of
this worthy cause.
School Reports
Semester 1 school reports will go home this Wednesday 26 th
June with every student, so parents please look out for your
child’s report in their school bag. As you will be aware the school
reports are a reference point for students, parents and teachers
to see how a student is performing against a standards
framework. Reports provide valuable feedback to parents and
students on areas of academic study that the student is
mastering and skills, concepts and understanding that require
further development. If you have any concerns with your child’s
report, please make an appointment to see your child’s class
teacher.
“RESPECT”

Student Banking
There will be no student banking this Friday
28 th June, the last day of term. Banking
resumes on Friday 19 th July.
Eddies Endeavours
For Eddies Endeavours this term, Chloe Nicholson chose to
fundraise for Cystic Fibrosis as part of her Service and Giving
component. Chloe raised $150 by selling pens, badges and
balloons. Last Monday, LJ Hooker Tamworth presented Chloe
with a certificate at school to recognise all her hard work. Well
done, Chloe!
SHERPA KIDS - St Edward’s Vacation Care –
BOOK NOW!
Come and join us for fun, friends and games these upcoming
school holidays. Please call Sandra Mansfield on 0481
373883 to secure a spot for your child/children. Booking forms
available from either the Primary and Infants Office or Sherpa
Kids at St Edward’s Infants’ Hall.
Please Note: We believe some parents may have understood
that Sherpa Kids was operating the Outside of School Hours
Services at St Edward’s only on a temporary basis and
therefore have decided against sending their children there in
fear of being left without childcare when Sherpa Kids ceases
operating from St Edward’s. We would like to make it clear to
all parents that St Edward’s Primary, together with Sherpa
Kids, have committed to provide an ongoing Before School,
After School and Vacation Care Services at St Edward’s with
the highest quality of care for the children of St Edward’s. We
therefore seek your support to this fantastic service being
offered at the Infants’ Hall.

School Zones
A reminder to all our parents ahead of these July
school holidays that school zones remain in place
for the safety of our children and families. School
zones operate on all gazetted schools days, which
are all days the school is open, even pupil free days. School
zones for St Ed’s will end on the afternoon of Friday 28 th June
resume on Monday 15 th July.
School Photos
Parents don’t forget Master School Portraits will
be taking our school photos on Tuesday 16 th
July at the INFANTS Campus and Wednesday
17 th July at the PRIMARY Campus (first week
back after the holidays). Master School
Portraits offer a Pre-Pay system for their photographic
services and advise that photos cannot be taken without the
envelope being filled out and payment returned. Payments
can be made by cash, cheque, credit card or on-line.
Please make cheques payable to MSP Photography, write
your name, address and phone number on the reverse side of
the cheque. Please note that no change will be given by
the school or the photographers.
Personalised envelopes, with the student’s name, went home
last Monday. Please return the envelope and payment to
your child’s class teacher by this Friday 28 th June.
Family Portraits: If you wish to purchase a family portrait (a
single portrait of two or more children who attend the school)
you can do so by obtaining a “Family” pre-pay envelope from
the Primary or Infants’ Office and return to school with your
order by Friday 28 th June. Family photos will be taken in
the Infants’ Hall at 1.10pm on Tuesday 16 th July for
families with children at BOTH campuses. Primary
parents will need to transport their children from the
Primary to the Infants’ Hall. If your children attend the
Infants only, and you would like a Family Photo, they will be
taken at the Infants Campus on Tuesday 16 th July after the
class groups.
Library Borrowing
There will be NO library borrowing for the rest of the term –
returns only for both Campuses. Please try to return ALL
library books this week. Borrowing will resume Week 1 next
term. Thank you.

ANZAC Poem
As dawn is rising,
The Ode is being said.
The Last Post is playing,
as the Diggers bow their heads.
With a minute of silence,
we remember those fallen.
With the ANZACS spirit alive,
they will not be forgotten.
I went to the March,
thinking of my Great Uncle.
I held my head up high,
feeling proud and honoured.
As the Diggers were marching by,
their uniforms so neat.
I wondered what they were thinking of,
their memories so bleak.
Year comes after year,
as the Diggers fall.
We hope their memories last forever,
we will pray for them all.

and Emily (6T). Ros Norman, Emily and Chloe's
Grandmother, is returning home after a lengthy stay in
hospital whilst holidaying overseas.
ADVANCE NOTICE:
Friday 26 th July – Grandparents’ Day Celebrations will be
held at the Primary Campus this year in the Primary School
Hall. An Infants’ Liturgy will be held at 10.15am and
Primary Liturgy at 11.40am. Parents and grandparents
are asked to bring a picnic morning tea. More details to
follow next term.
