The Cross Is……...
The cross is the hope of Christians;
the cross is the resurrection of the dead;
the cross is the way of the lost;
the cross is the saviour of the lost;
the cross is the staff of the lame;
the cross is the guide of the blind;
the cross is the strength of the weak;
the cross is the doctor of the sick;
the cross is the aim of the priests;
the cross is the hope of the hopeless;
the cross is the freedom of the slaves;
the cross is the power of the kings;
the cross is the water of the seeds;
the cross is the source of those who seek water;
the cross is the cloth of the naked;
We thank you, Father, for the cross. Amen.
Thank You!!
A BIG thank you to Bec and Dustin Evans, Tania
Orman, Sue and Deanna Morley, Gemma Hunt,
Rodney Beard, Jenny Maloney and Kaye and
Ewie Creanor for your outstanding efforts in
revitalising our Infants’ asphalt area. It has taken
on a new life with bright colours and terrific art
work. The hard work of these parents, despite the hot
conditions, is a wonderful example of the community spirit of
St Ed’s, and possibly an Eddies Endeavours challenge in the
making! A special thank you also to Miss Elliott for organising
the working bee!
Student Achievement – “Eddies Endeavours”
Congratulations to Braydon Thompson (6L), who recently
raised $120 for the RSPCA by delivering flyers on his own
around the neighbourhood and mowing lawns. Our school
was very fortunate to have Steve Coleman, CEO for NSW
RSPCA, come to our school last week to recognise Braydon’s
fabulous effort. Mr Coleman was also very impressed with our
Eddie’s Endeavours program! Your generosity is outstanding
Braydon.…keep up the great work!!
Happy Easter
We would like to wish all our families a safe,
happy and holy Easter break. To those families
who are travelling away, please drive safely.
School resumes next Tuesday 2 nd April.
St Patrick’s Mufti Day
Last Monday 18 th March our school celebrated St
Patrick’s Day and in honour of this day the
children came out of school uniform dressed in
“green”….and wow did they look fabulous! The
Primary children particularly enjoyed walking to the Infants and
spending quality time with their buddy class. It was also
wonderful to see the children bonding and playing together as
one at lunchtime. Special thanks to Mrs Clare Dubois for
organising and selling the green treats, Mrs Leonie Fox and Mrs
Jo Munro for providing the delicious green cupcakes and to the
Captains who assisted as well. We raised a grand total of
$584.40 for Caritas......what a fantastic effort and thank you
everyone for your generosity!!
Mr Unwin
Mr Unwin is a Year 5 teacher at St Edward’s Primary
School.
Mr Unwin is a handsome, young, male teacher. He
has dark brown hair, with a side fringe and a well
groomed beard. His eyes are also brown and his skin
is olive. Mr Unwin is fairly short for an
adult…..Sophie, Elijah and Ryan are almost as tall as
him!
Mr Unwin is kind and caring but sometimes gets
cranky. He is funny and has a good sense of humour
for a teacher. He is always well dressed and very
friendly.
Mr Unwin has lots of interests. He is a huge fan of
the Canterbury Bulldogs and also loves playing and
watching cricket. Mr Unwin loves cooking and eating.
He especially enjoys Bibs and Ribs and the Safari
Club.
We love having Mr Unwin and his musical talents at
St Edward’s Primary.
Road Safety
We remind parents that when dropping your children to
school via car to please ensure they alight from the curb
side of the road and NOT on the side closest to traffic
movements.
When out walking with children, hold their hand or hold them
close. This is the most effective way of keeping children safe
from traffic injury.
If you hold onto children, you can stop them running into a
situation that might be dangerous. But sometimes a child
doesn’t want to be held. What do you do
Don’t worry – all children complain about holding hands at one
time or another.
Sometimes they don’t understand how this will keep them safe
or they may just want to do it their way. By making family rules
about safe walking, explaining them and then sticking to them,
you are helping your child learn how to become a safer
pedestrian.
Use these road safety messages:
“Whenever we are out walking, we hold hands.”
“If we can’t hold hands, you can keep close by holding onto
me, the bag or the stroller.”
“There’s no running ahead.”
When holding your child’s hand, use the
opportunity to talk with the child about:
Where it is safe to walk and cross the
road.
When it is safe to walk and cross the
road.
The need to stop and wait at the side of the road before
crossing.
What to look for.
What to listen for.
Why they have to keep checking until they are safely across
the road or the driveway.
Wise Words for Families - “5 Discipline Ideas
to Remember”
I’m often asked how to discipline kids when their behaviour
infringes on the rights of others, or they plain won’t co-operate.
Here are five ideas to help make sure your discipline is effective
and doesn’t harm your relationship with your kids:
1. Relax: Angry parents don’t do much of a job of teaching their
kids to behave better. So before you say or do anything of
consequence take a breath. Most of us rush in or act in anger. Do
the opposite. Pick your time and the place for discipline.
2. Resist: How many chances do you give your child before you
put a consequence in place How often do you repeat your
message to kids “I’ve told you 1,000 times don’t annoy your
sister” Kids usually learn from explained action so act rather than
repeat yourself.......or yell.
3. Relate: Try to relate the consequence to the behaviour. If kids
won’t look after the computer as they should then withdraw their
right to use the computer. Don’t take pocket money away. That
makes little sense to kids whatsoever.
4. Respect: Make sure your kids keep their dignity intact in the
discipline process. Putting them down in front of their mates
shows lack of respect and will invite lack of cooperation. Stay
away from put downs, guilt, shame and other negative forms of
discipline. Ask yourself, “Could I cop this if I was a child” If so,
then there’s a good chance you are being respectful to your child.
5. Restore: Don’t stay mad at your child. Once the discipline
process has finished make the first move to mend any bridges that
may have been harmed. “Hate the behaviour, but love the child’ is
the idea here.
