Training Programs
Lifeguard Training
Show the world what you can do. Prepare for college and a
career by developing leadership and communication skills and
be a hero by learning lifesaving skills such as first aid and CPR
and have fun and earn money at a job you love. Lifeguard
Training teaches you the skills and knowledge needed to
prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants must
pass a prerequisite swim test which includes: swimming 300
yard continuously using front crawl and breaststroke, swim
20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a
minimum of seven feet, retrieve a 10 pound object and swim
20 yards back to the starting point within one minute and
40 seconds. Course length is 31 hours. The course fee includes
a $10 non-refundable pretest fee. There is an additional
American Red Cross Certification fee of $35.

Certification Challenges
This will give individuals an opportunity to become re-certified
without attending the classroom. Participants must be currently
certified in the specialty that they wish to challenge. Challenges
are available for CPR/AED for the Professional and Lay Rescuer,
Oxygen Administration, Lifeguard Training and First Aid.

Water Safety Instructor
Participants will learn how to teach water safety education,
including the Basic Water Safety course, the six levels of the
Learn to Swim Program and also parent and Child courses.
Participants must pass a prerequisite swim test, including
performing 25 yards of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke,
sidestroke, elementary backstroke and 15 yards of butterfly.
Course is 36 hours.

Dates: April 30 - May 19
Times: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm Monday and Wednesday
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Saturday

Lifeguard Instructor
Provide instruction to future rescuers. Instructor candidates
will learn to teach Lifeguard Training and all courses associated
with being a professional lifeguard. Prerequisites include
successfully passing all the skills associated with lifeguard
training certification. Course length is 29 hours.
Ages: 17 and over
Days: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday

Junior Lifeguard
The Junior Lifeguard Program is a great way to get a head start
on a future as a professional rescuer. The program includes
training in rescue skills and drills; on the job skills, general pool
operations, hands on training during swim lessons and public
swim. This program does not certify participants as lifeguards.
Participants must be able to swim 25 yards. Course is 16 hours.
Ages: 10 - 14
Days: Saturdays (4 week session)

Community Water Safety Today
Presents information regarding various hazards of specific
aquatic environments and how to avoid and respond to
emergencies in and around water. Home and community pool
safety education is also discussed. This course satisfies the
Florida Statutes requirement for foster families and individuals
adopting a child.
