PAKISTAN<br />

In <strong>2007</strong>, P<strong>IN</strong> continued post-earthquake (2005)<br />

reconstruction work in the Kashmir district of Bagh, while<br />

also beginning to implement longer-term development<br />

strategies.<br />

Reconstruction included building seven new schools and<br />

equipping 61 schools with furniture, books and computers.<br />

P<strong>IN</strong> also began construction of a girls’ high school for 480<br />

students and completed construction of a temporary town<br />

council building in Bagh.<br />

As well as infrastructure damage, the earthquake caused<br />

wide-spread psychological trauma. Therefore, P<strong>IN</strong> also<br />

provides psychosocial assistance. 2100 clients have thus<br />

far received counseling, 45 000 people have participated<br />

in free-time activities and health and hygiene awareness<br />

raising has directly touched more than 15 000.<br />

In Kashmir, due to the detrimental impact of human<br />

activities on the environment, P<strong>IN</strong> developed together<br />

with Bagh town council, the fi rst waste management<br />

system encompassing collection, segregation and<br />

ecological disposal.<br />
