High Holiday services are led by Reb Arik Labowitz, a charismatic and open-hearted<br />

spiritual leader and gifted teacher. Reb Labowitz connects members of all ages with<br />

learning from the heart through singing, guitar playing, and storytelling. <strong>The</strong>se events<br />

are also supported by several other talented musicians. Shabbat evening and morning<br />

services are generally held monthly. About six times per year, Shabbatons are led by<br />

Reb Arik with an evening service, a morning service followed by a vegetarian potluck,<br />

and Torah study.<br />

Eitz Or is a participatory congregation and many events are lay led. Events are<br />

often planned by members and may be held in the intimate setting of a member’s home.<br />

Eitz Or provides learning opportunities and also collaborates with other local <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

organizations with families and children in education and celebration. <strong>Jewish</strong> learning<br />

opportunities include Havdalah, Torah study, meditation, and chanting. Individuals and<br />

families are given an opportunity to connect to holidays and other events with games,<br />

singing, dancing, drumming, and storytelling. Eitz Or offers unique events such <strong>as</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

movie nights, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> book groups.<br />

Congregation Shaarei Tefilah is a welcoming community dedicated to reaching out<br />

to Jews from all backgrounds and helping them reconnect with or strengthen their<br />

commitment to their heritage.<br />

Shaarei Tefilah is a synagogue where Jews from all walks of life congregate daily for<br />

prayers, the study of Torah, and community support. Cl<strong>as</strong>ses, lectures, musical concerts,<br />

Ch<strong>as</strong>sidic fabrengens are all part of ongoing activities at the shul.<br />

Congregation Shaarei Tefilah is warm and embracing with special attention for<br />

families and children.<br />

Home hospitality is always provided for in a warm and welcoming manner. Visitors<br />

from all over the world have shared their feelings of caring and acceptance when<br />

spending a Shabbos in Seattle and participating at congregation services and events.<br />

CSTL h<strong>as</strong> grown exponentially <strong>as</strong> a community, from a handful of families two decades<br />

ago to over 120 families, plus many singles and elderly couples.<br />

<strong>The</strong> congregation’s synagogue building and mikvah are located in the Northend of<br />

Seattle. Non-members are welcome.<br />

Kadima is a progressive Reconstructionist community integrating study, celebration,<br />

and work for social justice.<br />

Kadima makes a strong connection between social activism and <strong>Jewish</strong> spiritual<br />

traditions, ethics, culture, and history.<br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> education: <strong>The</strong> Kadima School meets two Sundays a month. Kadima’s<br />

anti-bi<strong>as</strong> curriculum, hands-on educational experiences, holistic education philosophy,<br />

and parental involvement help to create a vibrant learning environment. <strong>The</strong> education<br />

program begins with pre-K and continues through the 7th grade. Kadima’s youth group<br />

serves grades 8 through 12. Kadima strives to provide a full, rich and authentic <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

education. Parents regularly report that their children enjoy Kadima’s cl<strong>as</strong>ses.<br />

Modern conversational Hebrew cl<strong>as</strong>ses: Cl<strong>as</strong>ses begin in the 3rd grade and<br />

typically continue through the 6th grade.<br />

Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation: Kadima’s Bar and Bat Mitzvah students participate<br />

in Judaic and Hebrew studies, mitzvah programs, and community-building<br />

activities. Madrichim (adult mentors) work with students and families to prepare for<br />

Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies.<br />

Adult education: Adult education at Kadima includes cl<strong>as</strong>ses, workshops, visiting<br />

lecturers, and Hebrew-reading cl<strong>as</strong>ses. Progressive Judaism, spiritual development,<br />

cultural connections, and social justice activism are explored.<br />

Mission and practices: Kadima welcomes members whose <strong>Jewish</strong> beliefs and<br />

practices span the spectrum from humanistic to theistic. Multicultural households are<br />

welcomed, including non-<strong>Jewish</strong> partners and family members.<br />

Persons of all sexual orientations are welcomed. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate<br />

and learn more about progressive Judaism. Kadima seeks to integrate a wide range of<br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> experience into its priorities and practices. It is committed to making its programs<br />

and community accessible to its members, and to people searching for a <strong>Jewish</strong> home.<br />

Temple Beth Am, a Reform congregation in Seattle’s Northend, values community,<br />

Young Families: Young Families at Beth Am, serving families with children up to 6<br />

years old, bridges the gap from birth through the first school year in a uniquely <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

Learning: 600 children attend TBA’s religious school on Sunday mornings and<br />
