You are invited to this timely seminar on the <strong>Japan</strong>ese language as a learner language and as a heritage language<br />
by two foremost scholars of the field. <strong>The</strong> topic is relevant not only to teachers of <strong>Japan</strong>ese and parents of<br />
<strong>Japan</strong>ese heritage children, as well as to administrators of <strong>Japan</strong>ese language programs and other stakeholders in<br />
the community.<br />
We are delighted to welcome Professor Yasuhiko Tohsaku of University of California, San Diego, a leading<br />
<strong>Japan</strong>ese educationist in the world and the author of the top selling <strong>Japan</strong>ese textbook series, Yookoso, and<br />
Professor Hiroko Kataoka of California State University, Long Beach, an internationally recognized scholar and<br />
practitioner of education of heritage learners of <strong>Japan</strong>ese. Professor Chihiro Thomson, UNSW will preface the<br />
talks and moderate the discussion.<br />
