You are invited to this timely seminar on the Japanese language as a learner language and as a heritage language
by two foremost scholars of the field. The topic is relevant not only to teachers of Japanese and parents of
Japanese heritage children, as well as to administrators of Japanese language programs and other stakeholders in
the community.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Yasuhiko Tohsaku of University of California, San Diego, a leading
Japanese educationist in the world and the author of the top selling Japanese textbook series, Yookoso, and
Professor Hiroko Kataoka of California State University, Long Beach, an internationally recognized scholar and
practitioner of education of heritage learners of Japanese. Professor Chihiro Thomson, UNSW will preface the
talks and moderate the discussion.
