Nicola Brooks - State Selection
Girls Hockey
Our congratulations are extended to Nicola
Brooks (Year 5 student) on her selection as a
member of the School Sport Victoria Hockey
Team.
Nicola will compete in the School Sport
Australia Hockey Championships in
Canberra from 18-23rd August. Well done
Nicola and we look forward to hearing about
your involvement in the Championships.
Nicola is a member of the Tucker Road girls
hockey team that is about to commence
playing in our District winter sport
competition against other schools.
Working Bee Report
Sunday 5th May
Thank you to all family representatives who
attended the working bee last Sunday. A
range of important tasks were completed:-
Installing two display boards
Cleaning windows
Spraying edges
Rewelding fence posts/Rainbow
House
Mowing (lots of it)
General sweeping and grounds
maintenance
Removal of sign at front of school
Roof clearance
Rainbow house maintenance works
Estimated cost savings to Tucker Road
Road $800.

to parents of 1A & 5F . This will be a
longer than usual working bee from
9.30am to 1.00pm followed by a BBQ
lunch and refreshments. The longer time
frame will enable some larger tasks to be
tackled.

School Canteen wins Glen Eira Council Food Award
At a recent presentation ceremony Tucker Road Bentleigh Primary
School Canteen was presented with a City of Glen Eira Food Business
Award. The awards were presented to those businesses with the
highest standards of food presentation and service. Congratulations go
to Marilyn Green – School Canteen Manager for her on-going work in
this important area. Tucker Road was presented with a framed
certificate by the Mayor of Glen Eira at the ceremony and was the only
school recognised in such a way.
Book Fair Thank you
I wish to thank Jan Johnson, Helen Trowbridge, Jenny Williamson and
Joanna West for helping out during the Book Fair.
An extra special thank you to Jan, as it will be her last Book Fair. Her
help over the years has been extraordinary!

Southern Cross Recycling
Next Monday13th May from 8:00 to 9:00 am Tucker Road will be a recycling station for
unwanted wearable clothes and shoes. A collection truck from Southern Cross Recycling will
be based on the school grounds at the front of the school. Students and parents can bring along
wearable clothes and shoes for recycling on this day.
Parents are encouraged to start collecting and storing such items to bring along on this day.

Helpers Needed
Helpers are needed to serve at the Parents’ and Friends’ Association’s Mothers’ Day Stall on Friday May 10 th 2013
from 9.15am till 1.30pm, and then to tidy up afterwards.
It is great fun, and you will be provided with a scrumptious morning tea!
If you are available for all, or even part, of the time, please join us. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Donations for Mothers’ Day Raffle
Many thanks to those parents, families and businesses who have generously donated prizes for this year’s Mothers’
Day Raffle. We have had a wonderful response - from offers of accommodation on the Mornington Peninsula, hair and
beauty treatments, state of the art electrical appliances, kitchenware and beautiful soaps and scents – and there are
going to be some very happy Mums!
If you would still like to donate, it is not too late. Prizes can be left in the basket at the office.
If you have made (or are going to make) a donation and would like to have your family or business acknowledged in
the newsletter please let us know. Where possible we will also issue a Certificate of Appreciation. Please leave your
details – including the name and class of your eldest child and a contact number – in the basket, or contact Fiona

Change of Date – May PFA Meeting
The May meeting of the PFA has been moved back a week, from 20 May to 13 May. This is to tie in with the School
Council meeting schedule. The meeting will be in the Parents’ Resource Room and will commence straight after
assembly, as usual.

Dear Dads and Students, Mothers’ Day is nearly upon us and the Parents and
Friends Association will be holding its annual Mother’s Day Stall on:
Friday May 10 th 2013.
Students will be brought to the stall by their classroom teacher at allocated times
during the day, and will be given the opportunity to purchase a gift for Mum!
If you would like your child to participate, please provide him/her with:
1) Money wrapped in plastic/foil or in a purse/wallet (clearly named)
2) A plastic bag (clearly named).
Gifts at the Stall will range from
50 cents to $5.00
(Most students buy a couple of items)
There will also be a raffle drawn on the day.
Tickets will be 20c each with a maximum of 5 per child.
These will be on sale at the stall.
