will be announced this week from the Texas Workforce Commission to assist in
the training of approximately 240 persons in the various construction fields.
Three new members have been appointed to the TSUS Board of Regents by
Governor Rick Perry. They are: Charlie Amato of San Antonio, business owner;
Ron Blatchley of Bryan, home builder, former mayor of Bryan, with close ties to
higher education; and Michael Truncale, Attorney at Law, Beaumont, with a
strong Lamar connection. Don Flores of El Paso was reappointed. These
appointments make possible a full board at the November meeting.
The Port Arthur Civic Center reopened this weekend. Some of the functions that
have been taking place in the Parker Center will return to the Civic Center. We
will still have a few functions on our campus but not as many.
Dr. Stretcher reported on the following:
We are working on a computer security training course for all faculty, staff
and students in compliance with the new mandate by the Texas Legislature. It
will be a web-based activity for people to exhibit familiarity with computer
security. Training of this type will allow documentation for everyone’s
completion of the training. If one does not pass the training or does not
complete it, a loss of computer privileges will occur.
On October 24, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parker Center, Jeff Corwin, the TV
personality/animal handler, will be our guest lecturer. He will bring some of
his reptiles with him but people will only have visual access to them.
We currently have 160 co-enrollment students from Nederland High School
and 60 from Memorial High School, Port Arthur.

The chair thanked Sally Byrd, Susan Gregory and Michelle Judice for their refreshments
for today’s meeting.
Our next meeting will be November 6, 2007 with Sheila Guillot, Kim Jones, and Janet
Tawney providing refreshments.
