Epoxy resin coating
Product
description
Sophisticated coloured 2-pack coating based on epoxy resin.
Icosit K 25 thick is of low solvent content.
Fields of application: Versatile applicable indoors and outdoors. Icosit K 25 is especially suitable as a protective
coating on concrete, brickwork, steel and other materials. Due to its smooth and easy to
clean surface, Icosit K 25 is also especially suitable in wet works, abattoirs, agriculture and
many other industries. Also suitable for submerged surfaces.
Properties: the fully cured coating is tough-elastic and hard, no embrittlement
Product data
 resistant to impact and shock
depending on layer thickness holiday detectors can be used up to 2 kV
early resistance against weathering and moisture.
In case of outdoor exposure chalking may occur, especially to clear (light) colour shades.
Colour shades: Icosit K 25: RAL colour shades
Icosit K 25 thick: white and grey.
Because of the raw materials used, slight batch to batch colour variations are unavoidable.
Packaging: Icosit K 25: 12,5 kg net.
Icosit K 25 thick: 10 kg net.
Icosit EG Phosphate: 30; 15 and 3 kg net.
Friazinc R: 26; 15 and 7 kg net.
Thinner K: 25; 10 and 3 litre
Shelf life: In originally sealed containers in a cool and dry environment: min. 2 years.
Blast cleaning will increase the bonding strength. In case of submerged exposure later on,
blast cleaning is absolutely necessary. Holes, holidays and other rough spots must be filled
or levelled with e.g. Icoment 520 mortar.
Steel:
Blast cleaning to Sa 2½ according to EN ISO 12944, part 4, free from dirt, oil and grease.
Good resistance to weathering, water and sewage, diluted acids, lyes, fats, oils as well as
temporary exposure to fuels and solvents.
Hints on application
Preparation of
material:
Not resistant to permanent exposure of ozone, solvents and oils (fuel oil) as well as concentrated
acids, acetic acid and phenole contaminations.
Temperature:
Dry heat short term exposure up to approx. +140°C (at approx. +100°C yellowing may occur);
damp heat up to approx. +60°C (temporary short term exposure).
Stir Component A very thoroughly using an electric stirrer. Add component B and mix both
components very thoroughly (including sides and bottom of the container).
Icosit K 25: application after a maturing time of approx. 30 minutes.
Application method: The method of application has a major effect on achieving uniform thickness and appearance.
Spray application will give the best results. The indicated dry film thickness is easily
achieved by airless spray and by brush. Adding solvents reduces the sag resistance and the
dry film thickness. In case of application by roller or brush, additional applications may become
necessary to achieve the required coating thickness, depending on type of construction,
site conditions, colour shade etc. Prior to major coating operations a test application on
site may be useful to ensure the selected application method will provide the requested results.

Application
temperature:
By brush and roller.
Conventional high pressure spraying:
nozzle size 1,3 – 2,5 mm; pressure 3 – 4 bar.
Airless-spraying:
With a spray pressure in gun of min. 150 bar;
nozzle size 0,33 – 0,53 mm (0,013 – 0,021 inch); spraying angle 40° - 80°.
Min. +10°C
(material and surface)
Potlife: Icosit K 25 and Icosit K 25 thick: at +20°C approx. 8 hours.
Waiting time between
coats:
Min. 1 day at +20°C. In case of contact with drinking water see the following paragraph.
Final drying time: At least 8 days in the case of subsequent immersion and heavier mechanical and chemical
exposure. Tests of the finished coating should only be carried out after final drying.
Important notice
Precautionary
Measures:
Thinner K
Please observe safety instructions on container labels and local regulations.
Dangerous Goods regulations have to be followed.
During application in closed rooms, pits and shafts etc., sufficient ventilation must be provided.
Keep away open light, including welding.
In poorly lit rooms only electric safety lamps are permitted. The installed ventilation equipment
must be spark-proof.
In a liquid, or not fully cured state, the thinner and the products contaminate water and
should not be allowed to enter drains or be spilled onto open ground. All spillages and liquid
waste must be removed according to local Health and Safety regulations.
Further details are contained in our instructions “Health protection and the prevention of
accidents“
