Icosit ® TW 1
2-component, solvent free epoxy coating for corrosion protection of drinking water supply
systems.
Product
description
Economically, higl mechanically resistant, 2-component, solvent free epoxy resincoating
system.
Fields of application: Heavy duty, high-build system for internal lining of steel and concrete pipes (nominal width >
300), tanks, vessels and equipment e.g. filter shells, penstocks and fittings in the drinking
water field.
Icosit TW 1 conforms with the German UBA –guideline for drinking water and is tested
according to DVGW W 270. Test reports are available upon request.
Properties: A dry film thickness of up to max. 750 microns per operation can be achieved (Nominal
450 microns).
Product data
The fully cured coating is slightly tough elastic, is mechanically-, shock- and impact resistant
and physiologically inoffensive.
Colour shades: Approx. RAL 1013, approx. RAL 5015 and approx. RAL 7032.
In case of prolonged exposure to UV light, Icosit TW 1 will yellow and chalk slightly.
Because of the raw materials used, slight batch to batch colour variations are unavoidable.
Packaging: Icosit TW 1: 12 kg and 3 kg units.
Thinner K: 25, 10 and 3 litre units. (for cleaning purposes only)
Shelf life: In originally sealed containers in a cool and dry environment: min. 2 years.
Systems
Coating systems: Airless spraying 1 x 450 microns Icosit TW 1
roller coating 3 x 150 microns Icosit TW 1
In case of filigree constructions an additional application is recommended.
Icosit TW 1 is resistant to water and waste water, neutral salts and disinfectants.
Not resistant to solvents and fuels.
Hints on application
Preparation of
material:
Temperature:
Dry heat up to approx. + 100°C,
Damp heat and warm water up to approx. + 40°C.
Stir Component A very thoroughly using an electric stirrer. Add component B and mix both
components very thoroughly for at least 3 minutes by means of an electric stirrer (including
sides and bottom of the container). Fill mixed material into a clean container and mix again.
Mixed material must have a uniform colour.
Important: DO NOT THIN !
Application method: The method of application has a major effect on achieving uniform thickness and appearance.
Spray application will give the best results. The indicated dry film thickness is easily
achieved by airless spray and by brush. Adding solvents reduces the sag resistance and the
dry film thickness. In case of application by roller or brush, additional applications may become
necessary to achieve the required coating thickness, depending on type of construction,
site conditions, colour shade etc. Prior to major coating operations a test application on
site may be useful to ensure the selected application method will provide the requested results.
Application
temperature:
(material and surface)
Airless-spray:
Efficient airless equipment. Gun pressure min. 200 bar; bore of nozzle 0,48 – 0,58 mm
(0,019 – 0,023 inch), spray angle 40° – 60°; diameter of hoses min. 8 mm (⅜ inch).
The use of an inline heater is necessary. The use of flow heater is necessary.
Brush or roller:
Because of short pot life we recommend the use of our smaller (3 kg) units for applications
by brush and roller.
surface: min. +15°C
material: min. +15°C
Potlife: at 20°C approx. 25 minutes
at 30°C approx. 15 minutes
at 40°C approx. 10 minutes
Important: When potlife is exceeded, material remnants react under
the development of heat and foaming and can flow over
the pail rim. Do not close lid firmly on pails
containing mixed material !
Important notice
Precautionary
Measures:
Contact with drinking water only after the material is fully cured to avoid contamination.
Prior to use of the coated pipes / vessels etc., apply to local and drinking water regulations
for proper Purification Treatments and desinfection.
Thinner K
Please observe safety instructions on container labels and local regulations.
Dangerous Goods regulations have to be followed.
During application in closed rooms, pits and shafts etc., sufficient ventilation must be provided.
Keep away open light, including welding.
In poorly lit rooms only electric safety lamps are permitted. The installed ventilation equipment
must be spark-proof.
In a liquid, or not fully cured state ,both Icosit TW 1 and Thinner K contaminate water and
should not be allowed to enter drains or be spilled onto open ground. All spillages and liquid
waste must be removed according to local Health and Safety regulations.
