children. This became a joint which let those with bad sides interfere in families and persuade<br />
young people to do things that were morally wrong and spark social unrest. Thus, young<br />
people who lacked the strength of family were easily deployed.<br />
Providing recreational activities could help promote the family relationships and the<br />
development of physical and mental strength; all members in the family were cheerful and<br />
felt refreshing. Moreover, it also promoted coexistence within a group. Recreations were<br />
activities that people usually did to maximize their free time. The activities were like<br />
celebrating birthday, singing, playing games and sports, going exercise, visiting relatives,<br />
storytelling and much more. These types of activities also required volunteering and they<br />
should not be contrary to law, cultures, and traditions, particularly the society of Muslims in<br />
southern parts of Thailand. In practice, if the activities were related to religious principles,<br />
Muslims would incline to such activities and were very strict with the religion. However, if<br />
the activities were not related to their religion, Thai Muslims could also adapt themselves to<br />
the culture in order to survive but the activities must not affect their religion [1] Banjong<br />
Farungsang, 1992:30. Thus, recreational activities had resulted in the development, society,<br />
emotion and intelligence; people felt refreshing. This could be a guide promoting<br />
relationships with their family and understanding each other [2] Krabi Cholwit Lakes,<br />
2000:32. There were differences from living presence which varied according to results.<br />
The results from activities within the family should let parents know their children<br />
habits or behavioral changes and teach them to be kind and good members of society.<br />
The research "Developing a recreational activity model which was consistent with<br />
local cultures to build strong family communities in three southern border provinces"<br />
consisted of 3 objectives: 1) to find a model of recreational activities that were consistent<br />
with local cultures to build a strong family by participation, 2) to try out the recreational<br />
activities that were consistent with the local culture to build strong families, 3) to assess the<br />
recreational activities that were consistent with the local culture to build strong families.<br />
Method<br />
The target groups were 15 families from the population in the three southern border<br />
provinces. They were 5 families for each province. The target group in Yala was Mana<br />
Sueksa School, the target group in Pattani was Mulnitit Asisatan School and the target group<br />
in Narathiwat was Tesabal School 1 (Pupha Pakdi road).<br />
Tools and methods used to develop the recreational activities included meetings,<br />
brainstorming stage, talks, exhibits and demonstrations, study visit, learning exchange, cardtechnique<br />
and priority-setting, group discussion and lessons taking.<br />
Tools used for data collection consisted of a list of considering the recreational<br />
activities, a list of recreational activity record, interviews, questionnaires, card-technique and<br />
priority-setting.<br />
For analysis of qualitative data, the researcher used content analysis and descriptive<br />
analysis and used statistics with quantitative data to figure out the frequency, percentage,<br />
mean and standard deviation.<br />
