13.0 County of Newell / EID Joint Meeting<br />

It was suggested that a meeting be set up with the City of Brooks as well. Separate meeting<br />

times are to be arranged. Suggested topics for the joint meetings were discussed.<br />

14.0 Equipment<br />

E. Wilson advised that a 2010 Kenworth truck has been purchased with a <strong>2009</strong> engine and<br />

emission motor for $137,000; and the existing 2004 truck has been traded for $35,000. Delivery<br />

will be in late January. As well, a 65 ton Peerless 24 wheel trailer has been purchased for<br />

$152,270. The <strong>District</strong>’s existing Jeep and booster can be used with the trailer. Delivery will be<br />

in March.<br />

15.0 Retreat Topics & Agenda<br />

A Board, Admin and Staff Retreat has been planned for January 11 th – 13 th at the Banff Park<br />

Lodge. Proposed sessions will include:<br />

Ideas on How to Get Water Users to Better Communicate Water On & Off<br />

Public Relations / Community Projects / Donations<br />

What Do You See the <strong>District</strong> Being in 5 Years<br />

Review & Update Board / Manager Roles & Responsibilities<br />

A copy of the Board of <strong>Directors</strong> and Manager Relationship Policy is to be included in the retreat<br />

packages. Requested items from this meeting will be added to the retreat agenda.<br />

16.0 Letter from Lake Newell Resort Marina Association<br />

A letter was received from Ron Remus, President of the Lake Newell Marina Association,<br />

requesting the <strong>District</strong>’s approval to place a lighthouse on <strong>District</strong> lakeshore land on the north end<br />

of Lake Newell. The <strong>District</strong> will have final say in the exact location. They are hoping to see the<br />

structure in use by May 2010, and feel that it will be of significant benefit for navigation and a<br />

unique attraction to the area.<br />

<strong>2009</strong>-12-234 Moved by P. Hemsing that the Board allow the placement of a lighthouse on <strong>District</strong><br />

lakeshore land on the north end of Lake Newell. Seconded by R. Owen. CARRIED<br />

17.0 Grazing Report<br />

17.01 Report on GAC Meeting<br />

A GAC Meeting was held Monday, <strong>December</strong> 14 th . The past grazing season, and improvements<br />

and listings for the next year were reviewed. The cattle revision deadline and procedure was<br />

discussed, with GAC representatives in agreement to the change. In addition to revisions<br />

needing to be submitted in writing to the local association and forwarded to the Grazing Lease<br />

Manager by May 1 st , the GAC Board requested that no grazing applications be given out or<br />

received at the <strong>District</strong> office. Applicants must communicate through their local grazing<br />

association. As well, the November 30 th deadline needs to be enforced by all associations.<br />

Lastly, the issue of members who rent land where a Private Grazing Lease is part of the same<br />

farming operation was discussed. The resulting conclusion was that these renting members will<br />

have a deduction equivalent to the Private Grazing Lease associated with that land.<br />
