<strong>Course</strong> <strong>Outline</strong> : <strong>PE</strong> <strong>Key</strong> <strong>Stage</strong> 3<br />

All students undertake two hours of Core <strong>PE</strong> a week during <strong>Key</strong> <strong>Stage</strong> 3. The<br />

students study Accurate Replication, Exercising Safely and Effectively,<br />

Outwitting an Opponent, Performing at Maximum Levels and Identifying and<br />

Solving Problems.<br />

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, including all of the above, by<br />

offering the following sports : Rugby, Football, Netball, Basketball, Cricket,<br />

Softball, Rounders, Fitness, Gymnastics, Swimming , Trampolining and<br />

Athletics.<br />

Autumn & Spring Terms<br />

During these terms the students undertake the following activities :‐<br />

Outdoor Games<br />

Fitness<br />

Basketball<br />

Gymnastics/Trampolining<br />

Swimming<br />

Summer Term<br />

Students undertake the Summer Sports Programme which includes the<br />

following activities :‐<br />

Athletics<br />

Softball<br />

Rounders<br />

Cricket


Students spend half a term on each activity. At the end of each “block” of<br />

activity students are assessed and given two grades : a level grade for<br />

achievement and an effort grade. These core processes are used :‐<br />

Developing skills in physical activity – through practical performance<br />

Making and applying decisions – through umpiring and playing a game<br />

Developing physical and mental capacity<br />

Evaluation and improvement – through self and peer assessment<br />

Making informed choices about healthy, active life styles – through<br />

involvement in clubs and an understanding of the health benefits of<br />

participating in <strong>PE</strong> and sport.
