<strong>ORTHODONTICS</strong><br />
A Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Education</strong> Program<br />
OVERVIEW<br />
The <strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dental Medic<strong>in</strong>e, Department <strong>of</strong> Orthodontics’ <strong>Advanced</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Program<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers a unique educational experience. This eleven month program <strong>in</strong>cludes didactic orthodontic<br />
courses, orthodontic case diagnosis and treatment plann<strong>in</strong>g, orthodontic teach<strong>in</strong>g, orthodontic<br />
research, as well as significant cl<strong>in</strong>ical patient treatment <strong>in</strong>teraction.<br />
PROGRAM DESIGN/OBJECTIVES<br />
The participant will provide comprehensive orthodontic treatment (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g diagnosis and treatment<br />
plann<strong>in</strong>g, record keep<strong>in</strong>g, appliance placement, etc.) to multiple patients while also attend<strong>in</strong>g<br />
orthodontic didactic courses and case conferences. Participants will have the opportunity to become<br />
<strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> post-graduate level teach<strong>in</strong>g and research endeavors should they choose to do so. A<br />
notification <strong>of</strong> completion is awarded at the end <strong>of</strong> the program. Completion <strong>of</strong> the advanced education<br />
program <strong>in</strong> Orthodontics does not imply, nor guarantee, entry <strong>in</strong>to an orthodontic post-graduate /<br />
residency program.<br />
SCHEDULE<br />
• This <strong>Advanced</strong> <strong>Education</strong> program is an eleven-month experience start<strong>in</strong>g on July 1 each year;<br />
Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.<br />
• Holidays and vacations co<strong>in</strong>cide with the post-graduate schedule (one week vacation spr<strong>in</strong>g/<br />
summer, two weeks w<strong>in</strong>ter). Participant will be allowed one day a week out <strong>of</strong> cl<strong>in</strong>ic to pursue<br />
research and/or other endeavors start<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the fall.<br />
• Participants will be allowed five additional vacation days and three sick days. Please note, the<br />
school may also close for severe weather events.<br />
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION<br />
• DDS, DMD or equivalent degree.<br />
• Submission <strong>of</strong> TOEFL exam<strong>in</strong>ation scores.<br />
• Two letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation.<br />
• Admission <strong>in</strong>terview.<br />
There is one position available each year.

EVALUATION OF PARTICIPANT<br />
For satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> the program, the Participant must:<br />
• Complete attendance requirements <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />
• Demonstrate didactic and cl<strong>in</strong>ical knowledge <strong>in</strong> Orthodontics as determ<strong>in</strong>ed by the<br />
director and attend<strong>in</strong>g faculty <strong>in</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Orthodontics.<br />
• Achieve a m<strong>in</strong>imum grade <strong>of</strong> 80% on a comprehensive written or oral exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />
at the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />
• Submit a written paper <strong>of</strong> publishable quality. The Program Director and Participant<br />
will mutually agree upon topic.<br />
Upon satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> all <strong>of</strong> the requirements, a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Completion will be awarded.<br />
FACILITIES<br />
The <strong>Rutgers</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dental Medic<strong>in</strong>e is located on the <strong>Rutgers</strong> Biomedical and Health Sciences Newark<br />
Campus. The medical and dental schools, graduate school <strong>of</strong> biomedical sciences, and the University<br />
Hospital are grouped together on an attractive campus with convenient private park<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
• Have a DDS/DMD degree or its equivalent from an accredited dental school.<br />
• Payment <strong>of</strong> non-refundable applicant fee <strong>of</strong> $200 U.S. (send with application).<br />
• Submission <strong>of</strong> a completed application form. Include your curriculum vitae; verified copies <strong>of</strong> your<br />
transcripts and dental school diploma; and orig<strong>in</strong>al letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation.<br />
• Documentation <strong>of</strong> Objectives and Goals (see application form).<br />
• Applicants with foreign degrees will be considered based upon an evaluation <strong>of</strong> their academic<br />
credentials. An orig<strong>in</strong>al evaluation report from one <strong>of</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g is required: Global Language<br />
Services, Inc.; National Association <strong>of</strong> Credential Evaluation Services (NACES); World <strong>Education</strong><br />
Services (WES), or <strong>Education</strong>al Credential Evaluators (ECE).<br />
• Applicants with English as a second language must atta<strong>in</strong> a TOEFL score <strong>of</strong> 80 or higher; or an<br />
International English Language Test<strong>in</strong>g System (IELTS) overall score <strong>of</strong> 6 or greater. Please submit an<br />
orig<strong>in</strong>al report.<br />
• Although Graduate Record Exam<strong>in</strong>ation (GRE) and National Board scores are not required,<br />
they may be submitted <strong>in</strong> support <strong>of</strong> the application.<br />
• Attend a personal <strong>in</strong>terview, when possible.<br />
• Be a citizen <strong>of</strong> the United States, a permanent resident, or a foreign national with a visa status<br />
acceptable to the CE program.

December 16 for the July 1 start date.<br />
Further Requirements<br />
Upon notification <strong>of</strong> prelim<strong>in</strong>ary acceptance <strong>in</strong>to the program, the applicant will also be required to:<br />
• Submit Health and Immunization Forms per University policy (see “Student Immunization and<br />
Health Requirements”). Completed forms must be submitted 2 months prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the<br />
program. Participant may not start their program until they have been cleared by Student Health<br />
Services.<br />
• Submit Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification that will be valid for duration <strong>of</strong> program.<br />
• Pay a non-refundable deposit <strong>of</strong> $1,000 (U.S.) with<strong>in</strong> 20 days <strong>of</strong> notification <strong>of</strong> acceptance.<br />
• Be cleared by a Background Check; an additional fee is required for this.<br />
• Provide pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> Health Insurance.<br />
• Licensed U.S. Dentists provide pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> Liability Insurance.<br />
• Full tuition is due two (2) weeks prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />
TUITION<br />
The tuition for this <strong>Advanced</strong> <strong>Education</strong> program for the academic year 2014-2015 will be a total <strong>of</strong><br />
$45,000 (US). Some additional fees and expenses may be applicable. A non-refundable deposit <strong>of</strong><br />
$1,000 is required to hold your place <strong>in</strong> the program; payment must be received with<strong>in</strong> 20 days <strong>of</strong><br />
notification <strong>of</strong> acceptance. Full tuition is due two weeks prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />
Cancellation Policy<br />
To participate <strong>in</strong> this program you must be pre-registered with the Office <strong>of</strong> Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g Dental<br />
<strong>Education</strong>. No refunds <strong>of</strong> any tuition paid will be made after program has started.<br />
