Hands-on Workshop
IMPLANT / RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
Converting the Failed Dentition to a Fixed Prosthesis
A Hands-on Workshop for the All-On-Four Protocol
For General Practitioners, Prosthodontists, Implant Surgeons and Lab Technicians
overview:
A landmark demographic study showed that while
edentulism is decreasing as a percentage of total population,
the population of edentulous patients is actually increasing
because of aging baby boomers. Today, patients are holding
onto failed teeth longer in hopes of avoiding the use of
dentures they saw their parents struggle with. This course
will offer you the opportunity to provide the treatment
these patients desire – anything but the denture.
Immediate load of dental implants provides a new solution
for these patients to be treated without use of a denture.
In one day, a patient with a compromised dentition can
be edentulated, receive implants and a fixed bridge –
eliminating the need for a denture.
In this hands-on course, we will convert a denture to a fixed
bridge on a dental cast – creating a patient education model
you will be able to use in your office. We will review all
clinical and laboratory steps required to convert the denture.
In addition, we will simplify the challenging steps associated
with creating the immediate denture necessary for this
treatment protocol. Identifying the appropriate incisal edge
position, finding centric relation and determination of the
proper occlusal plane are all challenges when our patient has
a compromised dentition. This course will provide solutions
for these issues.
Converting the denture isn’t the only necessary step in this
protocol. Once the implants have osseointegrated a definitive
prosthesis will need to be fabricated. That prosthesis can
be fabricated in as few as four appointments – or as many
as eight. You will learn how to determine whether the
streamlined or extended protocol should be selected.
The two most critical steps in fabrication of a successful
definitive prosthesis will be demonstrated.
This course is entirely based upon techniques and materials
that can and should be implemented into everyday clinical
practice. You will leave with increased confidence and a
clear understanding of clinical treatment ideals, including:
• Identifying the ideal patient for a conversion prosthesis.
• Understanding the immediate denture records
appointment.
• Material preparation for the conversion appointment.
• Hands-on completion of a conversion of a complete
denture to a fixed bridge.
• Evaluation of the provisional for the streamlined vs.
comprehensive protocol.
• Hands-on fabrication of an implant verification jig.
• Review of techniques and a hands-on impression of a
full arch implant cast.
• Introducing the All-On-Four concept of fixed bridges.
• Fabricate an All-On-Four patient education model that
you can take back to your office.
Using this conversion prosthesis, you will learn to treat
patients in your practice that need to be edentulated but
want to avoid ever wearing a denture.
Dentists and Academy of Dentistry International.
His commitment to dental education as a teacher and student
has him attending over 150 hours of continuing education
each year. He lectures both nationally and internationally.
As an early user of the NTI splint he has had an opportunity
to help refine its use and he consults with various dental
manufacturers on product development and testing.
Date: Friday, May 16, 2014
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: The Pines Manor in Edison, NJ
Tuition: $395 for Dentists
Credits: 7 participation credit hours
Code: 14D0227 Limited Enrollment
This lecture will explore the use of an anterior midpoint stop
splint (AMPS) as a starting point to deciding what directions to
take a restorative case. By knowing where the joint wants to
be in its most relaxed position allows us to establish records
that can guide us along the restorative path to a beautiful
healthy smile. Knowledge of the basic anatomy of the joint and
muscles of mastication will be taught to help the participants
understand the physiology of function and parafunction.
An AMPS, such as the NTI, will allow not only establishing a
restorative starting point but can help many of the patients
in your practice who suffer from Migraines or tension
headaches. This course will also cover the indications and
contraindications of use of the AMPS and how the clinician
can problem solve using the signs and symptoms that manifest
from the devices.
Learning objectives – you will:
• Walk away with a better understanding of joint anatomy
and how the excess muscle activity can trigger tension
headaches and migrainous activities.
• Have a step by step approach to achieve predictable
results from understanding a starting reproducible jaw
position. Whether it is establishing the vertical dimension
of occlusion for a denture or a full mouth reconstruction,
these devices or a form of them, can be used to find
a relaxed and patient comfortable position.
• Understand that there is a relationship between
migrainous activity and nocturnal parafunctional activity
and that this is all an extension of sleep disorders.
• Learn the steps to fabricate an immediate in office AMPS
and how to adjust it properly. Once the efficacy of the
device is established, a technique for creating a
laboratory fabricated device will be taught, as many of
these patients don’t want to go a night without wearing
their AMPS and often desire a back-up.
• See varied uses of the device and understand how
each of the different designs can help in creating a more
comfortable patient.
Implant / Restorative Dentistry
Hands-on Course
The Two-Implant Mandibular Overdenture
Restoring Quality of Life, As Well As Teeth
Approximately 10% of Americans over the age of 18 are
completely edentulous. A conventional maxillary denture
suits the needs of most patients. However, mandibular
dentures have problems with retention, stability, function
and esthetics. This creates a less than ideal quality of life
for these patients. A two-implant supported overdenture
overcomes many of these problems and can be relatively
cost effective, especially if their existing denture can be
retrofitted at chairside obviating the expensive laboratory
costs. The morning lecture is followed by an afternoon
hands-on laboratory session consisting of implant placement
and restoration in mannequins.
Nitrous Oxide Conscious Sedation
A Basic Hands-on Course for Dentists
& Dental Team Members
The contemporary dentist is presented with medically
challenged patients who function independently in society
due to recent advances in medical management. Many
patients with chronic conditions are managed on an
outpatient basis with expected extended lifespans. As a
result, the dentist will encounter patients with complex
medical conditions that require a thorough understanding
of disease processes and implications of dental therapeutic
interventions including pharmacological modification.
This course will present an update and review of the
more commonly seen medical conditions for the dental
practitioner. It will present useful and practical management
guides for the treatment of the medically compromised
patient including a review of commonly prescribed
medications and their implications to dental treatment.
Objectives:
• Review common medical conditions and current
therapeutic interventions.
• Relate medical conditions to their impact on delivery of
dental services.
• Discuss patient evaluation in ascertaining relative risks in
performing dental procedures.
Implant / Restorative Dentistry
Implant Options to Improve or
Eliminate Complete Dentures
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Update in Oral Surgery for
the Office-based General Practice
Dental implants can be used to improve a removable
prosthesis, or eliminate the need for a removable prosthesis
completely. But how many implants are needed for an
overdenture? Two? Four? More? Is the maxilla the same as
the mandible? How can I tell?
Success of an implant assisted or implant supported removable
prosthesis is dependent on many factors: implant number,
position and attachment system. These factors change
considerably depending on the goal of treatment, patient’s initial
complaints or whether the maxilla or mandible is being treated.
Ways to rehabilitate an edentulous arch with an implant
supported fixed prosthesis will also be presented. This type
of case must be handled carefully in order to avoid a disaster
on delivery day!
A clear blueprint for diagnosis, treatment prescription and
prosthesis fabrication will be presented.
You will learn how to:
• Assess number and position of implants needed to address
a patient’s desires.
• Discuss various overdenture treatment options.
• Interpret a patient’s complaint with existing dentures.
• Diagnose, design and fabricate implant overdentures.
• Choose an attachment system for an overdenture.
• Know if a full-arch case is suitable for a fixed vs. removable
prosthesis.
• Avoid common complications in replacing an edentulous
arch with implants.
Among the most challenging of dental restorations is that of
an anterior central incisor, particularly in the circumstance
when the rest of the dentition is intact and attractive.
A crown restoration, particularly implant-supported,
requires an expanded perspective that includes a series of
prosthodontic and surgical factors – esthetic, functional,
material and soft tissue.
This course will be presented in modules that highlight the
major factors important in the successful treatment of the
Single Implant Supported Anterior Crown.
Topics to be covered:
• The anatomic position of the implant – Good, OK, Impossible.
• The Provisional Crown – the Blueprint.
• Esthetic Dentistry 2014 – Wow! Beautiful.
• Tooth Color – now you see it or do you?
• Now I have it, what do I do? Contouring, adjustment and
