Why I love to teach<br />
biochemistry<br />

EVERY YEAR WHEN I, AS CHAIR, AM<br />
asked to introduce the Department of<br />
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology<br />
and what we teach to the incoming<br />
medical students, I have to decide<br />
how to not scare them. I typically<br />

acquiesce and admit that it is we<br />
biochemists who teach all those<br />
boring, silly pathways of one molecule<br />
dancing with another molecule until<br />
eventually we somehow get energy.<br />
Every year this gives me a chance<br />
to ponder why I should feel apologetic.<br />
As I stand at that podium, many<br />
thoughts go through my head. I<br />
