<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Services</strong> & <strong>Facilities</strong><br />

9. Information Technology <strong>Services</strong><br />

Computer Division provided following services during the<br />

reporting period:<br />

• Creation of Repository Database for CSIR-CDRI candidate<br />

drugs.<br />

• MoES database application software was developed and<br />

implemented for online transaction.<br />

• Setting up of a state-of-art LAN/WAN infrastructure for the<br />

New CSIR-CDRI Campus, Sitapur Road, Lucknow.<br />

• Projects leveraging NKN (National Knowledge Network)<br />

infrastructure and services.<br />

· Comprehensive ERP implementation.<br />

• Designing complete layout on internet cabling system using<br />

fiber optic and UTP cables.<br />

• Implemented antivirus software and firewall to avoid any virus<br />

threat to our Network.<br />

• Development of R&D databases and portals.<br />

• Implementation and maintenance of GLP Computers.<br />

• Complete video-conferencing and audio-visual coverage in<br />

different national and international seminars, conferences and<br />

workshops.<br />

• In-house maintenance of Online Stores & Purchase Software.<br />

• Following new software applications developed:<br />

a. Online Application for Ph.D. registration (For Academic<br />

Affairs Unit).<br />

b. SAIF Web Application (For online management of SAIF<br />

division work).<br />

c. Online Survey application for CSIR-CDRI employees.<br />

d. Online slot reservation application for UID generation<br />

(For CSIR-CDRI Staff Club).<br />

e. Online Student Management System (For Academic<br />

Affairs Unit, CSIR-CDRI).<br />

f. E-calendar for CSIR-CDRI RC-Meeting .<br />

10. Instrumentation<br />

Instrumentation Division continued to provide efficient,<br />

economical and effective repair, maintenance, upkeep of<br />

sophisticated analytical, biomedical, electronics and laboratory<br />

equipments. Division maintained uninterrupted power supplies of all<br />

the divisions of the <strong>Institute</strong>. In case of non-availability of imported<br />

components, equivalent indigenous substitutes were installed to<br />

ensure the smooth functioning of equipments. Specifications and<br />

technical evaluations were prepared for the procurement of state<br />

of the art new equipments.<br />

Certified standards for weight, temperature, time, volume, pH<br />

and rpm were maintained. Laboratory equipments of different<br />

divisions of <strong>Institute</strong> were calibrated as per GLP guidelines.<br />

11. Academic Affairs<br />

The unit serves as a centre for the management of research<br />

students working in different departments of the institute. The<br />

activities carried out during the period include:<br />

• Compilation of pre-Ph.D. course work under AcSIR for life and<br />

chemical sciences.<br />

• Liaised with IICB Kolkata and CLRI Chennai for the approval of<br />

AcSIR Pre-Ph.D. course work.<br />

• Liaised with Jawaharlal Nehru University for the reorientation<br />

of the Pre-Ph.D course by introducing interdisciplinary course<br />

structure, highly subjective in depth optional courses and series<br />

of specialized optional courses under life/chemical sciences<br />

for basic/applied research.<br />

• Selection of students for registration at AcSIR for Pre-Ph.D<br />

program through interview for the batches commencing fall<br />

and spring 2011 and for the spring 2012.<br />

• Liaised with AcSIR-HQ for the registration of students working<br />

at CSIR-CDRI.<br />

• Initiation of Pre-Ph.D course work under AcSIR for life sciences<br />

from Aug 2011.<br />

• Examination and evaluation of the first batch of AcSIR students.<br />

• Initiation of Pre-Ph.D course work for CSIR-CDRI students<br />

registered at Jawaharlal Nehru University.<br />

• Coordinated and conducted examination of the pre-Ph.D.<br />

course work for CSIR-CDRI students registered at Jawaharlal<br />

Nehru University.<br />

• Liaised with Jawaharlal Nehru University for timely registration,<br />

synopsis approval, thesis submission, Ph.D. viva at CSIR-<br />

CDRI etc.<br />

• Coordinated centralized admission of Junior <strong>Research</strong> Fellows<br />

for the batches commencing July 2011 and Jan 2012.<br />

• Coordinated centralized admission of GATE-JRFs for the<br />

session commencing July 2012.<br />

• Coordinated and regularized selection of LS-qualified project<br />

assistants under externally funded projects by holding<br />

interviews on 24th of every month.<br />

• Screening and endorsement of post-doctoral application forms<br />

being submitted by Ph.D. students from outside CSIR-CDRI to<br />

Indian funding agencies.<br />

• Developed a new “Human Resource Management System”<br />

software dealing with the online registration of research<br />

students (JRFs/SRFs/PAs/RAs) with the help of our Computer<br />

Division. All activities of students pertaining to leave/salary<br />

form/Ph.D. registration/ reimbursement/participation in<br />

symposium/up gradation/Thesis submission etc. will be done<br />

using this software. The software was launched 1 Jan 2012.<br />

12. Laboratory Engineering <strong>Services</strong><br />

The Lab Engineering <strong>Services</strong> division continued to provide<br />

Engineering <strong>Services</strong> to the <strong>Institute</strong> to maintain the Infrastructure<br />

for R&D work. The major works carried out during reporting period<br />

are as follows:<br />

• Progress monitoring & co-ordination of the New CDRI campus<br />

being setup at Sitapur Road, Lucknow.<br />

• Establishment of Animal Health Monitoring lab.<br />

• Installation of new tube well at sector ‘K’ Aliganj.<br />

• Renovation of canteen at sector ‘K’ Aliganj.<br />

• Renovation of CSIR-IITR vacated area of Animal House.<br />

• Renovation of Toilets at CSIR Dispensary, Nirala Nagar.<br />

• Roof waterproofing of CSIR Scientist Apartment Aliganj.<br />

• Air conditioning of Breeding and Experimental unit of Animal<br />

House.<br />

• Renovation of CSIR Guest House at second floor, sector ‘K’<br />

Aliganj.<br />

• Renovation of 'Infectious block' for make shift arrangement of<br />

Accounts and Purchase division after collapse of Porch.<br />

• Maintenance of Labs, lifts, DG sets, AC plants etc.<br />
