Herbs. Rhizomes elongate, to <strong>1.</strong>8 cm in diam. Leaves basal;<br />
stipules caducous, ca. 14 × 9 mm; petiole 7–18 cm, glabrous;<br />
blade succulent, peltate, broadly ovate to orbicular, nearly<br />
symmetric, 10–14 × 7.5–10 cm, subglabrous to glabrous,<br />
venation palmate, 10–12-veined, base slightly oblique, rounded,<br />
margin indistinctly crenulate, apex abruptly caudate. Inflorescences<br />
20–39 cm tall, glabrous; bracts caducous, 5.3–9 × 3.9–<br />
8.9 mm. Staminate flowers: pedicel 7–17 mm; tepals 4, pinkish,<br />

This species is similar to Begonia parvula but differs by its bilamellate<br />

mm thick; blade with a wide whitish ring-shaped belt, or with<br />
digitate dark brown bands along main veins and at leaf margin,<br />
ovate to broadly ovate, 7–20 × 5.5–14 cm, thickly papery, ±<br />
rugose, abaxially shortly villous, particularly so on veins, adaxially<br />
villous-setose or tomentose-setose, basally 6- or 7-veined,<br />
all veins on abaxial surface prominently raised, base obliquely<br />
deeply cordate. Inflorescences axillary, flowers 4–17 in a dichasial<br />
cyme; peduncle 10–16 cm, hirsute-villous; pedicel hispidvillous;<br />
bracts ovate, oblong, or orbicular. Staminate flowers:<br />
tepals 4, outer 2 suborbicular to oblong; inner 2 obovate, oblong,<br />
or oblanceolate; androecium zygomorphic; stamens 20–<br />
50; anthers oblong-obovoid, apex subemarginate, yellow with<br />
red margin along anther sacs. Pistillate flowers: tepals 3, usually<br />
caducous; outer 2 suborbicular to broadly ovate; inner 1 obovate;<br />
ovary 7–11 × 5–7 mm, red villous-setose or hispid-setose,<br />
3-winged, 1-loculed with parietal placentation; wings unequal,<br />
abaxial wing lunate. Capsule nodding, 10–15 × 6–8 mm; abaxial<br />
wing 6–9 mm tall. Fl. Feb–May, fr. Mar–Jun. 2n = 30*.<br />

This species is similar to Begonia chitoensis but differs by its<br />
