SkyLine ® Air Traffic Management
A Comprehensive Solution in a Single System
Our Air Traffic Management System
Delivers a Half Century of Experience
Air traffic control is serious business, which is why
the world looks to Lockheed Martin for air traffic
management (ATM) solutions. From the onset of
automated air traffic control, we have supplied
ATM services to the United States and the United
Kingdom. Today, our leading-edge solutions serve
air travelers worldwide.
Proven Technology
Our SkyLine ® systems package 50 years of air traffic expertise
into a single comprehensive solution — a robust solution
reflecting the adaptability, longevity and fail-safe operation
of Lockheed Martin offerings. SkyLine air traffic management
systems are currently deployed in Taiwan, Kazakhstan, South
Korea, New Zealand, Albania, China and Uzbekistan. The fifth
generation system is:
• Flexible
Modular, scalable design offers you optimum solutions for
towers, terminals and air traffic control centers of any size,
letting you add new radar, sectors or other units as required.
• Adaptable
Thanks to commercial off-the-shelf hardware, SkyLine
systems are easier to maintain, modify and upgrade (you
can choose the platform and operating system you prefer).
They are also easier to integrate with airport, airline and flow
control centers for collaborative decision making.
• Safe and Reliable
SkyLine systems are designed for fail-safe operation. Software
architecture offers multiple paths for data processing and critical
24/7 safety net functions. Meanwhile, simulation and training
options ensure operators are prepared to run the systems.
• Easy to Implement
A SkyLine system can be operational in months, not years.
Our installation in Astana, Kazakhstan, which controls 47
percent of the country’s airspace, went online in just
10 months.
• Easy to Configure
SkyLine’s human-machine interface can be customized to
fit your needs and languages. Easy-to-modify displays offer
multiple windows for lists, communications and alerts for
superior information presentation and faster, more informed
decision making.
Translates Data into
Useable Information
Surveillance Data Processing
A SkyLine system offers accurate tracking of aircraft from all
types of surveillance data inputs:
• Works successfully with all major global radar sensors
• Has automatic dependent surveillance processing capability
for broadcast (ADS-B) and point-to-point communications
• Receives and processes multilateration surveillance data
• Seamlessly integrates multiple surveillance sources into a
single tracked target for display
• Provides plotting tool for immediate documentation of aircraft
track history
Safety Net Features
SkyLine systems are highly reliable and highly adaptable, making
it easier for users to introduce functional changes to improve
safety of operations. Features include:
• All standard SSR code alerting (radio failure, hijack,
emergency)
• Conformance alerts deviations from planned flight plan
• Minimum safe altitude warning
• Restricted airspace intrusion prediction and alerting
• Short-term separation conflict prediction, and conflict alerting
separation and collision (STCA)
• Medium-term conflict detection
• Reduced vertical separation minima (RVSM)
• Weather radar inputs
• Independent bypass radar function
• Offline database cross checks inputs by adaptation operators
Flight Data Processing
A SkyLine system provides real-time trajectory models and conformance
monitoring with full automation of flight plan handling
and coordination. Features include:
• Flight plan route expansion and 4D trajectory modeling
• Automatic posting and management of electronic flight data
lists and e-strips
• Fully integrated ICAO 2012 support, including backwards
compatible with adjacent FIRs
• Automatic insertion of standard instrument departures (SIDs)
and standard terminal arrival route procedures (STARs)
• Standardized message protocols for exchanging information
between neighboring flight information regions
• Automation of intersector and interunit coordination
• Graphical flow control and controller workload analysis
functionality
Other Features
SkyLine systems also provide advanced data recording and
analysis functionality. Features include:
• Remote tower operations through low bandwidth communications
to the main center
• Display recording and playback, synchronous with audio replay
• Proven simulation system, which enables multiple simultaneous
exercises
• Capability to resectorize any position to any other position
• Capability to split positions and sectors, to take sections
offline for staged loading of new software for replays or to
run simulation
• Open systems architecture that supports interfaces to third
party add-on functions, such as customer billing, noise monitoring
or traffic display applications
Best Practices,
Global Standards
Lockheed Martin works closely with
you to ensure SkyLine systems meet
best-practice needs of air navigation
service providers (ANSPs) worldwide.
We also ensure continuing compliance
with global aviation standards issued by
EUROCONTROL and the International
Civil Air Organization (ICAO).
