<strong>Mahidol</strong> Students Win<br />

Microsoft Imagine Cup<br />

<strong>2012</strong> in Australia<br />

Four students from the Faculty of ICT, Mr. Chanakarn<br />

Chinchatchawal, Mr. Panawut Poungsin, Mr. Krittinun<br />

Sirodom and Mr. Sirisak Nakaviwat, along with their project<br />

supervisor - Dr. Srisupa Palakvangsa Na Ayudhya, <strong>Mahidol</strong><br />

University - also known as the TANG THAI team have received<br />

1 st place in the Microsoft Imagine Cup <strong>2012</strong> in Game Design<br />

(Xbox/Windows).<br />

The completion, which was held in Sydney, Australia,<br />

in July <strong>2012</strong>, brought together teams selected from 400<br />

applicants worldwide. The TANG THAI’s project entitled<br />

“Verdant Fantasy” is a real-time strategy game developed to<br />

help build awareness of deforestation and forest preservation.<br />

As such, players follow the concept of the 3Ps - Protect,<br />

Plant and Plan in order to complete their missions. The game<br />

was referred to as an interesting approach in the use of<br />

technology in tackling some of today’s most important issues.<br />

This remarkable achievement by the students comes just<br />

one-year after the Jub Jub team, (also from the Faculty of ICT,<br />

<strong>Mahidol</strong> University) were 1 st runner-up in the same category<br />

for their Junk Master game.<br />

Microsoft’s Imagine Cup is the world’s leading student<br />

technology competition, bringing together innovative and<br />

creative teams from across the globe.<br />

From 25 th to 28 th July <strong>2012</strong>, Mr. Nutthaporn Thammathi<br />

(pictured) a recent graduate of the College of Music,<br />

<strong>Mahidol</strong> University, competed against 80 other candidates<br />

in Salzburg, Austria to receive 1 st Prize in the international<br />

Grandi Voci <strong>2012</strong> Voice Competition. The competition, which was<br />

established in 2010, is open to top singers from across the<br />

globe and organized by Oper im Berg Festival which in turn<br />

was founded by Ingo Kolonerics.<br />

One of the main goals of the competition is to audition<br />

singers for leading roles in the company’s annual opera<br />

productions, which include La Bohème, La Traviata and<br />

Rigoletto. Since his win, Mr. Thammathi, also known by his<br />

nickname Aof, has received invitations to perform at various<br />

European concerts including open-air opera and gala<br />

performances to audiences of up to 2,000 people. Mr.<br />

Thammathi completed his undergraduate program in Vocal<br />

Performance at the College of Music in 2011, where he was<br />

taught by Nancy Tsui-Ping Wei, Chair of Voice Department.<br />

Thanks to an ASEA-UNINET Thai-Austrian Exchange Program<br />

scholarship, Mr. Thammathi was able to continue his studies<br />

at the University of Mozarteum, Salzburg under the tuition<br />

of Prof. Mario Antonio Diaz Varas. His next professional<br />

engagement will be a production of Puccini’s - La Bohème,<br />

scheduled for June 2013.<br />
