• Bankruptcy filings grew 14 percent to
1,596,355.
• Petitions rose in 73 of the 90 bankruptcy
courts.
• Filings climbed 16 percent under chapter
7, fell 4 percent under chapter 11, and
increased 9 percent under chapter 13.
• Business petitions declined 1 percent;
nonbusiness petitions went up 14 percent.
• On September 30, 2010, the number of
persons under post-conviction supervision
was 127,324, which was 2.5 percent
more than the total one year earlier.
• Persons serving terms of supervised
release after leaving correctional institutions
grew more than 3 percent and
constituted 81 percent of all persons
under supervision.
• Cases opened in the pretrial services
system, including pretrial diversion cases,
increased nearly 6 percent to 111,507.
