Pretrial Services System<br />

• Bankruptcy filings grew 14 percent to<br />

1,596,355.<br />

• Petitions rose in 73 of the 90 bankruptcy<br />

courts.<br />

• Filings climbed 16 percent under chapter<br />

7, fell 4 percent under chapter 11, and<br />

increased 9 percent under chapter 13.<br />

• Business petitions declined 1 percent;<br />

nonbusiness petitions went up 14 percent.<br />

• On September 30, <strong>2010</strong>, the number of<br />

persons under post-conviction supervision<br />

was 127,324, which was 2.5 percent<br />

more than the total one year earlier.<br />

• Persons serving terms of supervised<br />

release after leaving correctional institutions<br />

grew more than 3 percent and<br />

constituted 81 percent of all persons<br />

under supervision.<br />

• Cases opened in the pretrial services<br />

system, including pretrial diversion cases,<br />

increased nearly 6 percent to 111,507.
