Dear Members, 

I am pleased to share with you a compliment that was published on The Triton, a 

nautical news publication, where Captain Craig of a visiting megayacht, IFY, gave 

positive feedback on our Club facilities and his stay at ONE°15 Marina Club. He 

enjoyed the lifestyle in Singapore and raved about our clean and sophisticated 

city, citing Singapore to be the potential Fort Lauderdale of Southeast Asia

Captain Craig is not alone is his view of the thriving yachting industry in Singapore. 

New and repeated visits by numerous super and megayachts have proven that Singapore 

is geographically and economically viable as one of the most desirable yachting 

destinations in the region. 

The Club will be celebrating our 4 th Anniversary on Sunday, 2 October with a family 

carnival in Bollywood theme. Highlights include a kids’ fashion contest, Bollywood 

movies marathon, Woof Ball, a foam party as well as workshops for adults and a 

bazaar decked with colourful products for purchase. An Indian-themed cuisine will be 

served at LATITUDE Bistro at brunch. If you have a penchant for Indian food, this is a 

gastronomic treat you won’t want to miss! Please refer to page 29 for more information. 

Various outlets in the Club have also put up special promotions to celebrate our 4 th 

Anniversary and details may be found on page 12. 

Also on pages 8 – 9, you will find the exciting programme line-up for our New Year’s 

Eve celebration. There will be entertainment for adults and a first ever, Never Never 

Land for kids. It will be an unforgettable evening for the whole family. Start the New 

Year with a bang by joining us at this fabulous party! Tickets will be available starting 

1 November. 

Last but not least, for two weekends in September, LATITUDE Bistro has prepared a 

special treat for all Members. On 9 – 11 September and 23 – 25 September, there will 

be fresh, whole fishes on the weekend barbecue menu. You may choose your favourite 

fish from a selection of grouper, pomfret or sole fish, as well as your preferred style 

of preparation—either steamed, fried or grilled. Come and try this weekend barbecue 

special while it lasts.

New Weekday Semi-buffet Dinner 

From September onwards, LATITUDE 

Bistro will be serving semi-buffet in 

place of buffet during dinner on 

weekdays (Mondays to Thursdays). 

The Semi-buffet includes a main 

course, coffee/ tea, the salad bar 

and/ or dessert bar. Semi-buffet sets 

are priced at $20, $30 or $40.

Boaters’ Bar operating hours has been changed 

to 6pm – 11pm from Thursdays to Sundays 

and closed from Mondays to Wednesdays, 

except eve of public holidays. 

Boaters’ Bar Happy Hour 

Boaters’ Bar Happy Hour is from 

7pm – 8pm every Friday! Members 

will enjoy one hour of free flow beer

Farewell to MY Tanvas 

On 6 July, we bid farewell to MY Tanvas, 

a new 40-metre sunseeker motoryacht. 

The vessel was with us for two months 

and had headed north to Phuket for 

maintenance. We will be welcoming them 

back later in the season. 

Farewell to SY Cygnus Montanus 

SY Cygnus Montanus has been a steady 

visiting 25-metre sailing yacht since 

their introduction to ONE°15 Marina 

Club for the 2008 Volvo Ocean race 

held here. Following that, they have 

been with us each crusing season. Their 

final departure on 26 July will take them 

back to Japan and USA via Hong Kong. 

Farewell to MY Golden Compass 

On 13 July, we said goodbye to MY Golden 

Compass, a 44-metre Picchiotti that has 

berthed with us for one week on their 

global circumnavigation. It left Singapore 

to Indonesia and East Timor and were sent 

off by the ONE°15 team with a farewell 

card and a souvenir of ONE°15. 

Farewell to MY Sakira 

MY Sakira, a new 32-metre 

Leopard sleek motoryacht left on 

18 August after a month's stay 

with us to commission the yacht 

back to its Indonesian owners. We 

wish them safe travels.

At world’s end, what do you see lurking in the deep black seas 

PIRATES!!! This Halloween, we bring to you Pirates of the Caribbean on Cut-throat Island 

with swashbuckling corsairs, swords, muskets and eye patches sailing the sea aloft our 

cranking old pirate ships with canvas sails and cannons! 

Participants will go through a mystery treasure hunting experience, through eel infested 

waters and deadly swamps to find the treasure chest with assorted golden treasures. 

However, be careful of creepy crawlies lurking in the treasure chest that are all ready to 

pounce on you! Look out for dangerous obstacles ambushed all over this deserted island 

and prepare for a gruesome hunt for sharks, journeying atop feisty dolphins. Expect slugs 

and slimes for the pirate captain’s trick and treats, and finally, be warned, for there are 

sneaky traps in the cloud of murky shallow waters. Pirates of the Caribbean adventure 

trail concludes with a test of courage in the icy cold Kids’ Lounge where spine-chilling 

movies will be shown and all pirates must unite as one, to endure the horrors till the end!

CHARITY REACHES 

NEW HEIGHT

Climbing against strong, freezing wind and inhaling thin air at below 

-30°C, we struggled with each step up the steep mountain slope. We 

had been on Mount Everest for 26 days, and at 8,400m altitude, 

potentially just a few hours from the summit, we passed a frozen 

Japanese corpse still clipped onto the fixed line. We cut him loose, retied 

the rope and soldiered on, reminding ourselves that our goal was just a 

few hours away. 

Two hours later, just as my morale had recovered, three men hurried 

down the slope past me. Two Sherpa were helping a disoriented and 

snow blind climber down the mountain to camp 4 for medical help. The 

probability of them making it was low. Deep breathing caused me to 

cough uncontrollably as my lungs were damaged from weeks of having 

the Khumbu cough and the more recent onslaught of large volumes of 

extremely cold air. We had to make a decision whether to keep going or 

turn back – the longer we kept going, the harder it would be to get back. 

We decided to take our chances and trundled on towards the Hillary 

Step. 

Hi, my name is Rob Hart. You are reading the account of my expedition 

up Mount Everest, which is a fund-raising mission for Room to Read—a 

charitable organisation that focuses on bringing literacy to millions of 

children and seeks gender equality in education. Mountain climbing 

is one of my passions, and top of the list since I was a small boy was 

Everest. However, attempting another mountain would have been far 

less meaningful had it not been an accomplishment beyond personal 

goals. 

Growing up in Africa, I have seen charities that devote large portions 

of donated funds to overhead and administrative costs (Land Rovers). I 

believe it is more effective to teach a person how to fish than giving him 

fish. Therefore, I have been committed to raising funds for Room to Read, 

where children with education gain hope for a better future. 

So far we have managed to raise USD15,000, with this money going

THE SEVEN SUMMITS 

1. Mount Kilimanjaro 

Conquered: Early 2004 

Height:

With the substantial change in altitude daily, one gets to witness an 

amazing change of flora from tropical jungle through the temperate zone 

to the polar regions in a week. 

towards building a school in Nepal. I am thankful to those who donated 

as it showed that many out there share the same compassion for these 

children and are interested in building a better life for them. 

Besides raising funds for Room to Read, this expedition concluded my 

quest for achieving the Seven Summits, which are Kilimanjaro, Denali, 

Elbrus, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Vinson and Everest. In my 

experience, the greatest challenge is not physical, but mental. I have 

spent many days in tents doing little besides waiting for the weather to 

improve while food supplies dwindle. Then out into the freezing winds 

again for a long period until its time to pitch the tent and crawl back into 

it. There are also constant risks of death and illness. While the attraction 

of frozen digits, howling winds and inedible food eludes many, to me the 

draw is that such adventure and challenge is still available in modern 

times. 

Some of the experiences I’ve brought home from my quest of the Seven 

Summits are summarised on this column on the right. 

2. Mount Aconcagua 

Conquered: Late 2004 

Height: 

6,962 meters (the highest peak in the 

world outside of the Himalaya) 


Aconcagua is the world’s largest pile of shale – the mountain is very dry 

and exfoliation of the rocks means you are often taking two steps forward, 

sliding one back, on the loose stone. 

3. Mount Elbrus 

Height: 

5,642 meters 

Conquered: 2006 


We found Russia as expensive as Europe, as friendly as China and as 

organized as Africa! We developed an affinity for the vodka though, 

which compensated. 

4. Mount Denali 

Height: 

6,194 meters 


A fateful event on Mt. Denali: 

I missed the birth of my first son, who was 5 weeks early, while halfway up 

the mountain. Due to limited communication systems, I only found out three 

days after he was born, at which point I could congratulate my wife, and 

get a pat on the back from my fellow climbers. 

5. Carstensz Pyramid 

Height: 

4,884 meters 



It is one of the most remote places on Earth and inhabited by numerous 

tribes with many different languages. We hired porters from most of the 

tribes we would encounter on our way to negotiate the path through their 

lands. 

6. Mount Vinson 

Height: 

4,897 meters 

Conquered: 2009/ 2010 


Antarctica is teeming with life around the edges at the sea, but a short 

distance inland there are no people, no pollution, no trees, no animals and 

no foot prints. All you see is snow, ice and rocks. The feeling of isolation is 

incredible. 

7. Mount Everest 

Height: 

8,848 meters 

Start Date of Trek: 1 April 2011 

Reached summit: 14 May 2011 


My first attempt of Everest was in 2005, but high winds ended our hopes 

for a summit. There is a lot of support on the mountain from the local 

Sherpa people, who operate exceedingly well at altitude.

The first ever Audi endorsed yacht and the first supermaxi to sail 

Singapore waters makes its grand entrance at Marina Bay Sands 

to partner in the launch of Audi’s A6 Sedan at the 2011 Formula 

1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. The Audi Ultra will be docked 

between its scheduled international regattas at ONE°15 Marina

The Ladies' Clinic caters to intermediate and advanced tennis players 

and is taught in three parts with the first 30 minutes concentrating on 

warm-ups and basic tennis drills, the next hour focusing on a strategy 

or shot-of-the-day, and the last 30 minutes will be a match play 

between students. Each class will have a maximum of 8 students to a 

coach.
