Raise Awareness This October
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, a time when
advocates against violence can come together and shine a light
on this relevant societal issue. GFWC is a national leader in
the fight to end domestic violence through its Success for
Survivors Scholarship. Made possible by the generosity of
members, partners, and community friends, the scholarship
provides financial assistance towards education for survivors
of intimate partner violence. Visit www.GFWC.org for

Three New Clubs Join GFWC!
We are excited to welcome three new GFWC clubs to our
Federation Family: GFWC East Sacramento Women’s
Club (California), GFWC HOPE Club (Missouri), and
GFWC Alabama Les Belles Juniorettes. GFWC works
hand-in-hand with state federations to form new clubs and refederate
former clubs. We offer two types of membership
grants that can help offset some of the financial burden of

Comeback Club
After moving to Gaylord, Michigan, club members Karen
Krumm and Mary Sensabaugh found themselves driving
nearly two hours to their respective club meetings. Tired of
long commutes, they were delighted to find that their new
community previously had a woman’s club, the
GFWC Gaylord Study Club. The women promptly
resurrected the club, which had ceased operating nearly 30
years ago. With the help of the GFWC Women’s History and
Resource Center and a county librarian, Karen and Mary
discovered pages and pages of history about the former club’s
activities and accomplishments from its start in 1905 through
the mid-1980s. They were even able to connect with women
who had been in the club, including Pat Kilbourne, who served
as club president in 1980.
The newly reinstated club is now building its membership
through club meetings and events. It has already recruited the
county librarian who assisted with the research of the club’s

On Leadership: Developing Powerful
Chairman
The GFWC Leadership Committee is pleased to assist clubs
and districts with a regular leadership focus: Stepping Out
Month-by-Month—Your GFWC Leadership
Calendar! Each month you can access a leadership
presentation in script or outline format, depending upon the
focus, along with corresponding handouts or worksheets. This
user-friendly program makes it easy for leadership chairmen
or officers to expand leadership understanding or enhance
skills. The September presentation focuses on developing
powerful CSP or project chairmen who will learn how to plan
more effectively and expand projects above and beyond all

GFWC welcomed the Dupont Circle
Village to Headquarters on Monday,
August 26, for a Live and Learn
Seminar, designed to engage members
on important topics such as health,
wellness, and aging. The Dupont Circle
Village is a non-profit neighborhood
membership organization that connects
elderly residents to services and social
activities to help foster an independent
lifestyle. GFWC Headquarters is located
in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of
Washington, D.C.
