How Gorge 2 nd Tunnel Increases Energy Efficiency • Water flows in a second path, parallel to the existing tunnel, from the dam to the powerhouse • The same water can travel at a reduced velocity • Reduced velocity results in less friction loss along the path • Less friction loss means more energy is available for electrical generation
