Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation
eFoundry TM
http://www.tsmc.com/
Founded in 1987, TSMC is credited as the world’s first and now the world’s largest dedicated
independent semiconductor foundry service provider. The company is headquartered in
Taiwan’s “Silicon Valley”, Hsin-Chu Science-Based Industrial Park, with offices in the North
America, Europe, and Japan to serve and support world-wide customer’s needs. Today, it
operates 11 fabs in Taiwan, Singapore, and USA, employs over 1,4500 people worldwide, and
the annual sales turnover reached 5.3 billion ( $US ) in year 2000. TSMC is listed on the
Taiwan Stock Exchange as well as the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol of
TSM.
Due to the tremendous cost for building an advanced IC fab and endless challenges resulted
from IC manufacturing process evolution, the IC industry competition has made the ownership
of fab impractical for all but only the largest companies, like Intel, and hence results in the
“dis-integration” of the semiconductor industry. On the edge of “dis-integration” wave, TSMC
positions itself as a “pure play” semiconductor foundry service provider. As a "pure play"
foundry service provider, TSMC strives to become its customers’ “Virtual Fab” with which
TSMC creates seamless relationship with its customers, provider comprehensive information
related to their products to customers and even authorize customers to directly manage their
products related production decision making process. "Virtual Fab" business model enables
customers having the advantages of possessing their own fab and serves customers in a sense
that customers feel as if their own people are running the fabs.
To realize the vision of “Virtual Fab”, TSMC develops the "eFoundry TM " suit enabling
customers to do the design, engineering, and logistic collaborations with TSMC at anytime,
anywhere through the internet-based technology. Through TSMC eFoundry TM serving the whole
foundry service process, customers are provided with the technology information, IP & Library
information to evaluate, initiate and implement their design. Customers have full access to
manufacturing process and related yield, quality and reliability information to raise the yield to
shorten the time-to-volume and the total logistic visibility to manage their supply chain to
shorten time-to-market.
The implementation of the eFoundry TM system,
TSMC eFoundry TM comprises five e-commerce solutions : TSMC-Online TM , TSMC-YES TM ,
TSMC-Direct TM , TSMC-eJobview TM , and TSMC-Internet Layout Viewer TM .
- TSMC-Online TM ( One-to-one customer portal cope with full foundry service cycle to
achieve the highest collaboration with customers on design, engineering and logistics)
status)
TSMC-Online is the first industry’s first web-based, browser-accessed tool, specifically
designed for TSMC customers who want total visibility to their product related information
and great control over the whole product life cycle, from design, fabrication, to post sales
service. TSMC-Online provides the same real-time visibility to orders, work-in-progress,
technical document, ..etc, as customers with their own captive fabs. TSMC-Online business
transaction and information delivery system help customers reduce cycle time, respond
quickly to market change, and reduce overall production cost. TSMC-Online is a free
service to all TSMC customers.
- TSMC-YES ( Manage and improve product yield )
TSMC-YES TM ( Yield Enhancement System ) is a complete set of software tools that
facilitate collaborative engineering data analysis between designers and TSMC engineers.
TSMC-YES TM allows designers to perform yield enhancement analysis from their own
computers using exactly the same tools, data and analysis models employed by TSMC
engineers. Bu suing TSMC-YES TM , designers can reduce low-yield analysis cycle time,
enhance yields by detecting problems early on in the sorting phase and make faster ramp-up
in new product introduction. This service strives to create a working environment where the
designers have almost as much input in the design and production process as they would if it
was their own fab.
- TSMC-Direct TM ( System-To-System Integration for TSMC Customers to Manage
Supply Chain)
TSMC-Direct is a unique system-to-system integration service that easily integrated with
other disparate system at customer side. This service helps establish effective relationships
and link mission-critical business processes between customers and TSMC. TSMC-Direct TM
helps customers reduce cycle time, increase productivity and lower production costs. The
service acts as an extension of customer's internal systems and allows for collaborative
planning, WIP tracking, free-format engineering data sharing, real-time order placement and
confirmation and other important business control features. TSMC-Direct TM offers
customers better visibility of the entire supply chain as well as a secure, timely and reliable
form of information exchange.
- TSMC-eJobview TM ( Mask inspection over the internet )
eJobview is the foundry industry’s first web-based mask inspection system, which allows
customers check the mask image anytime, anywhere through the internet. With eJobview,
customers may significantly reduce the mask inspection time.
- TSMC-Internet Layout Viewer TM ( Design service around the globe, around the clock )
TSMC-Internet Layout Viewer is a real-time, web-based, distributed circuit layout
information viewing service, which virtually connects customers’ design/layout engineers
and TSMC’s engineers across time and space. TSMC-Internet Layout Viewer has special
features including a full graphic and interactive interface, and it provides an design
collaboration platform between customers and TSMC to resolve the design and
layout-related issues through the internet.
Today, TSMC eFoundry TM has been well recognized by global customers. Everyday there are
more than 400 customers using eFoundry suite to collaborate with TSMC, and customers really
enjoys the benefits in overall production cycle time reduction, faster product yield ramp-up, and
a high efficiency, internet based environment for business transaction and information access. In
the future, eFoundry will continue to serve as the key differentiator to allow customers to be the
most competitive in their end-markets.
