SURFACE PREPARA
ARATION
It is important that all surfaces to be coated be free of all contamination and previous coatings. Refer to “Surface
Preparation” data bulletin for complete instructions.
APPLICATION
Brush, roller, air spray or airless spray equipment may all be used to successfully apply SA-10 Primer.
Material must be applied as is, do not thin. Apply Irathane SA-10 Primer at approximately 4 mils wet gauge per coat.
COVERAGE
The coverage rate for SA-10 Primer is 250 sq.ft. per gallon per coat. To provide acceptable adhesion (exceeding the
cohesive strength of the Irathane) in wear or chemical applications, 2 coats of SA-10 followed by 1 coat of UU-56 adhesive
are required.
DRYING TIME
All freshly blasted metal surfaces should be protected with 1 coat of SA-10 Primer applied within 8 hours after blasting to
prevent rusting of the newly exposed surface. The drying time for this primer is 15 minutes minimum and 1 month
maximum between coats. The final coat must be dry for a minimum of 30 minutes and must be followed by the application
of the UU-56 adhesive within 72 hours.
NOTE: One additional coat of SA-10, either brushed or sprayed, is sufficient to freshen a fully primed surface which has
received more than 72 hours exposure.
CLEAN-UP. Both acetone and MEK solvents serve as excellent cleaners for equipment.
Caution: These solvents are highly flammable and must be protected from sparks and open flames. Note: Solvent
cleaning MUST precede the introduction of Irathane coating into spray equipment which has been used to apply SA-Series
primers.
SHELF LIFE. When stored in its original unopened container at 70°F shelf life for the SA-10 primer is guaranteed for a
period of 1 year. Long-term storage temperature should not exceed 80°F.
