CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
主 席 報 告
The year 2013 is an important year for The Hong Kong Management
Association as we unveiled a new brand identity for the first time since
our establishment in 1960. It is indeed my honour and pleasure to
report that our Association has made significant progress in the year
and enjoyed enthusiastic support from our members as well as the
community. A total of 2,115 courses and activities were conducted for
41,744 participants. I would like to take this opportunity to express
my sincere gratitude to members, sponsors and staff of the HKMA for
their time and efforts devoted to our Association.
Cautiously Optimistic Outlook on the World Economy
Supported by a recovery in advanced economies, the world economy is
showing signs of bouncing back. Growth in developing countries has
also been bolstered by the advanced economies and the moderating
but still strong growth in China. With an improving housing market
and rising household wealth which strengthened private demand, the
US economy has continued to recover. The euro area experienced
a sustained period of financial-market calm in 2013 and is gradually
pulling out of recession. Policy actions in the euro area have reduced
major risks and stabilized financial conditions, although growth is still
constrained by credit bottlenecks. In Japan, the new policy package
of fiscal stimulus and monetary easing has resulted in an impressive
rebound in economic activities.
The Mainland is in the course of an economic transformation from
investment-led growth to a consumption-led economy. However,
domestic demand was in an adjustment phase in 2013 as it was
constrained by the frugality campaign. The expansion of credit also
added to worries about financial stability and potential defaults.
Nevertheless, the Chinese economy has reached a turning point. In
2013, for the first time since 1961, China’s services output exceeded its
industrial output. The Mainland is moving towards a more balanced
and sustainable growth path.
There is a cautiously optimistic outlook on the global economy. Despite
signs of strengthening, downside risks remain considerable. Some of
the major risks include the slowdown in emerging market economies,
unfinished financial sector reforms in the euro area, high government
debts in advanced economies, and the tapering of quantitative easing
in the US.
Hong Kong Faces Internal and External Challenges
Hong Kong’s economic growth trajectory remains intact, but it is facing a
number of internal and external challenges. Hong Kong joins many other
developed economies around the world and the Mainland in having a
low birth rate and an ageing population which will lead to a diminishing
labour supply. Some sectors, such as construction, retail and catering,
have experienced a labour shortage in recent years which was caused by
a surge in labour demand arising from the development of those sectors
coupled with the skills mismatch in the workforce.
2013 年 是 香 港 管 理 專 業 協 會 重 要 的 一 年 ,
本 會 自 1960 年 成 立 以 來 , 首 次 推 出 一 個 嶄
新 品 牌 形 象 。 本 人 非 常 榮 幸 向 大 家 欣 然 報
告 , 管 協 在 年 內 取 得 顯 著 進 展 , 並 贏 得 會 員
及 社 會 各 界 熱 烈 支 持 。2013 年 , 管 協 舉 辦
了 2,115 項 課 程 及 活 動 , 學 員 及 參 加 者 人 數
達 41,744 人 。 本 人 在 此 衷 心 感 謝 各 位 會 員 、
贊 助 人 及 員 工 付 出 時 間 和 努 力 , 支 持 本 會 的
工 作 。
環 球 經 濟 前 景 審 慎 樂 觀
受 到 發 達 經 濟 國 家 復 甦 的 支 持 , 全 球 經 濟 顯 示
正 在 好 轉 的 跡 象 , 受 發 達 經 濟 國 家 經 濟 好 轉 ,
以 及 中 國 雖 呈 放 緩 但 依 然 強 勁 的 增 長 所 帶 動 ,
發 展 中 國 家 亦 出 現 增 長 。 美 國 房 屋 市 場 改 善 ,
加 上 家 庭 財 富 上 升 , 增 強 了 個 人 需 求 , 令 美
國 經 濟 持 續 復 甦 。2013 年 , 歐 元 區 的 金 融 市
場 持 續 穩 定 , 並 逐 步 擺 脫 衰 退 , 雖 然 信 貸 瓶
頸 仍 阻 礙 增 長 , 但 歐 元 區 的 政 策 行 動 已 令 重
大 風 險 減 少 , 並 已 穩 定 了 金 融 狀 況 。 日 本 推
出 新 的 一 籃 子 財 政 刺 激 和 貨 幣 寬 鬆 政 策 後 ,
經 濟 活 動 顯 著 轉 趨 活 躍 。
內 地 經 濟 正 從 投 資 拉 動 增 長 , 轉 型 為 消 費 主
導 。 然 而 ,2013 年 , 國 內 提 倡 節 約 , 因 此
需 求 處 於 調 整 階 段 , 信 貸 擴 張 亦 增 加 了 對 金
融 穩 定 性 和 潛 在 違 約 的 憂 慮 。 儘 管 如 此 , 中
國 經 濟 已 到 達 了 一 個 轉 捩 點 。2013 年 是 中
國 自 1961 年 以 來 , 服 務 業 產 值 首 次 超 越 工
業 產 值 , 內 地 正 沿 著 更 平 衡 和 可 持 續 增 長 的
道 路 邁 進 。
環 球 經 濟 前 景 審 慎 樂 觀 。 經 濟 雖 然 有 增 強 跡
象 , 但 下 行 風 險 仍 然 很 大 , 一 些 重 大 風 險 包
括 : 新 興 市 場 經 濟 放 緩 、 歐 元 區 金 融 業 改 革
尚 未 完 成 、 發 達 經 濟 國 家 政 府 債 務 高 企 , 以
及 美 國 量 化 寬 鬆 政 策 退 市 。
香 港 面 對 內 外 挑 戰
香 港 雖 然 保 持 經 濟 增 長 , 但 正 面 對 很 多 內 外
挑 戰 。 香 港 與 世 界 許 多 其 他 發 達 經 濟 國 家 及
中 國 內 地 一 樣 , 出 生 率 低 、 人 口 老 化 , 導 致
勞 動 力 供 應 減 少 。 一 些 行 業 , 例 如 建 築 、 零
售 和 飲 食 , 近 年 出 現 勞 工 短 缺 的 情 況 , 這 是
由 於 行 業 發 展 引 致 對 勞 工 需 求 激 增 , 再 加 上
勞 動 力 錯 配 所 致 。

Apart from demographic challenges, Hong Kong is also facing keen
competition from Mainland cities. The Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong
Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone is being developed as
a new financial and commercial hub in the region. It will offer low
corporate taxes and a legal regime modelled after Hong Kong, and
will not levy income tax on finance professionals, lawyers, accountants
and creative people whom it hopes to attract. At the same time,
the launch of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free-Trade Zone in 2013 can
potentially affect Hong Kong’s attractiveness to foreign investment.
The Free-Trade Zone is the first Hong Kong-like free trade area in
the Mainland, and is considered as the most important attempt at
economic reform since the establishment of the Shenzhen Special
Economic Zone in 1980.
Over the past few decades, Hong Kong has enjoyed many advantages
as a gateway for foreign investors who hope to do business in the
Mainland. In view of the economic reforms in China, Hong Kong must
gear up for global competition.
Re-branding of the HKMA
Having a history of over 53 years, our Association is proud to receive
widespread recognition from the business community. As the range
of our services and profiles of participants have become very diverse,
we carried out a re-branding project in 2013 to bring greater focus to
the HKMA brand identity and signify our commitment to advancing
management excellence in Hong Kong and the region.
The re-branding project was undertaken by the Corporate Development
Sub-committee which is chaired by Mr Alfred Chan, BBS, Deputy Chairman
of the Association and Managing Director of The Hong Kong and China
Gas Co Ltd. Through a series of interviews and focus group studies, we
examined different stakeholders’ perceptions and expectations of the
HKMA. Based on the findings, a new logo, a new tagline, and a new
Vision, Missions and Values (VMV) have been developed. The new logo
was unveiled at our Annual Fellowship Dinner on 26 November 2013.
While the new logo symbolizes enhancement and projects a modern
image, it is also easily recognizable as representing the Association. In
conjunction with the new logo, a new tagline “Advancing Management
Excellence” has been developed.
We also redefined our Vision as “to be the leading professional
organization advancing management excellence in Hong Kong
and the region” and our Missions as “to promote best practices in
management”, “to nurture human capital through management
education and training at all levels”, as well as “to provide members
with a platform for exchange of ideas, networking and personal
development”. The new missions clearly communicate the purpose
of our wide range of services, including management education for
individuals and management services for the business community.
The HKMA’s values include continuous improvement, innovation,
integrity, professionalism, respect for individuals, and sustainability.
Our new brand identity has been incorporated at our training centres,
website, letterheads, name cards, publications, souvenir items and
other contact points with members and the general public. I hope
you appreciate the new look of the HKMA as much as I do.
Apart from the above changes, our Association has implemented
many new initiatives to strengthen our connection with the business
community and promote our brand. A series of Business Leaders
Roundtable Summits was conducted to promote the relevance of

自 由 貿 易 試 驗 區 , 可 能 會 影 響 香 港 對 外 資 的
吸 引 力 。 該 自 貿 區 是 內 地 首 個 類 似 香 港 的 自
由 貿 易 區 , 並 且 被 認 為 是 自 1980 年 深 圳 經
濟 特 區 成 立 以 來 最 重 要 的 經 濟 改 革 嘗 試 。
過 去 數 十 年 , 香 港 作 為 外 國 投 資 者 在 內 地 營
商 的 門 戶 , 一 直 享 有 不 少 優 勢 。 鑑 於 中 國 推
動 經 濟 改 革 , 香 港 必 須 作 好 準 備 , 迎 接 全 球
競 爭 。
管 協 重 塑 品 牌
管 協 具 逾 53 年 歷 史 , 廣 獲 工 商 各 界 認 同 ,
實 在 深 感 自 豪 。 本 會 鑑 於 服 務 範 圍 和 參 與 者
背 景 現 已 非 常 廣 泛 , 遂 於 2013 年 進 行 品 牌
重 塑 計 劃 , 以 更 突 顯 品 牌 形 象 及 表 明 本 會 致
力 推 動 香 港 和 區 內 的 卓 越 管 理 。
品 牌 重 塑 計 劃 由 本 會 機 構 發 展 小 組 委 員 會
負 責 , 由 管 協 副 主 席 暨 香 港 中 華 煤 氣 有 限
公 司 常 務 董 事 陳 永 堅 先 生 擔 任 主 席 。 委 員
會 通 過 一 系 列 訪 問 及 專 題 小 組 調 查 , 研 究
不 同 利 益 相 關 者 對 本 會 的 觀 感 和 期 望 , 根
據 研 究 結 果 , 設 計 出 嶄 新 的 會 徽 、 宣 傳 標
語 , 以 及 願 景 、 使 命 及 價 值 信 念 。 新 會 徽
於 2013 年 11 月 26 日 在 管 協 周 年 晚 宴 首
次 亮 相 。 新 會 徽 象 徵 改 進 , 展 露 現 代 化 形
象 , 並 易 於 辨 識 是 代 表 管 協 。 新 宣 傳 標 語
「 卓 越 管 理 ‧ 精 進 創 新 」 與 新 會 徽 同 時 啟
用 。
管 協 亦 將 願 景 重 新 定 義 為 「 成 為 領 先 的 專
業 組 織 , 致 力 促 進 香 港 及 周 邊 地 區 的 卓 越
管 理 發 展 」, 並 將 使 命 重 新 定 義 為 「 推 動
最 佳 管 理 實 踐 」、「 提 供 全 方 位 管 理 教 育
及 培 訓 , 以 培 育 人 力 資 本 」 及 「 為 會 員 提
供 意 見 交 流 、 人 際 網 絡 拓 展 及 個 人 發 展 的
良 好 平 臺 」。 新 的 使 命 清 晰 傳 達 本 會 範 圍
廣 泛 的 服 務 的 不 同 目 的 , 包 括 為 個 人 提 供
管 理 教 育 及 為 商 界 提 供 管 理 服 務 。 至 於 本
會 的 價 值 信 念 , 則 包 括 持 續 改 進 、 創 新 、
誠 信 、 專 業 才 能 、 尊 重 個 人 , 以 及 可 持 續
發 展 。
新 品 牌 形 象 已 於 本 會 的 培 訓 中 心 、 網 站 、
信 頭 、 名 片 、 刋 刊 物 、 紀 念 品 和 所 有 其 他 與
會 員 和 市 民 聯 繫 的 渠 道 採 用 。 本 人 極 之 欣
賞 管 協 的 新 形 象 , 希 望 各 位 亦 有 此 同 感 。
除 上 述 變 革 外 , 管 協 亦 推 行 了 多 項 新 措 施 ,
以 加 強 與 商 界 的 聯 繫 及 推 廣 本 會 品 牌 。 管
協 舉 辦 了 一 系 列 的 「 領 袖 圓 桌 會 議 」, 以

the HKMA among business leaders and involve them in our work.
An Executive Study Tour to Beijing was jointly organized with the
Chinese Academy of Governance to provide members with intensive
training in relation to the Mainland’s economic, social and political
developments. To create more networking opportunities for our
members, we collaborated with other professional organizations on
membership networking events.
Enhancing Awareness of Sustainability
Sustainability is a broad concept which means meeting the needs of the
present population without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their own needs. In the business context, sustainability
encompasses ideas such as care for employees, care for the community
and care for the environment. In recent years, there is growing awareness
of the importance of sustainable development. More and more companies
and organizations view sustainability as a desired goal of leadership and
management, and put it into consideration when doing strategic planning
and managing business operations.
Being one of the core values of our Association, sustainability is
integrated into our business practices. We also endeavour to promote
the concept among the business community.
Sustainability was also a key component of our 2013 Theme Year
activities. At the Annual Conference, several speakers explored the
concept from different perspectives, such as sustainability challenges in
Hong Kong, the linkage between creativity and sustainability, corporate
social responsibility as a business imperative, and the use of technology
for sustainable business development. In September, a Business Leader
Roundtable Summit was organized under the theme of sustainability.
Participants discussed ways to make the concept relevant to small and
medium-sized enterprises as well.
To encourage best practices in caring for employees, we are organizing
the “Family-Friendly Employers Award Scheme” for the Family Council.
Awardees will be invited to share their experience with our members.
We also encourage sustainability reporting through our Best Annual
Reports Awards. Looking ahead, our Association will establish a
Sustainability Committee which will spearhead more initiatives to
enhance awareness of the concept.
Conclusion
I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to
the success of the re-branding project of our Association. Members of the
Corporate Development Sub-committee have provided important guidance
on the strategic planning. Our members, students, Council and Committee
members and the general public have provided the Association with
valuable opinions. The HKMA’s activities would not have been successful if
not for the active support of our sponsors and participants. Our Executive
Director and his capable staff have spared no effort in fulfilling our missions.
The commitment and joint efforts from all concerned shall enable the
Association to adapt to the rapid changes in Hong Kong and the world,
and continue to advance management excellence.
促 進 商 界 翹 楚 了 解 本 會 的 相 關 功 能 , 並 鼓
勵 他 們 參 與 本 會 工 作 。 管 協 亦 與 中 國 國 家
行 政 學 院 培 訓 中 心 合 辦 了 一 次 北 京 考 察
團 , 為 會 員 提 供 內 地 經 濟 、 社 會 和 政 治 發
展 的 深 度 培 訓 。 此 外 , 本 會 與 其 他 專 業 團
體 合 辦 了 多 項 會 員 聯 誼 活 動 , 為 會 員 提 供
更 多 拓 展 人 際 網 絡 的 機 會 。
提 高 可 持 續 發 展 意 識
可 持 續 發 展 是 個 廣 泛 的 概 念 , 意 指 滿 足 現 時
人 口 的 需 求 , 但 不 會 損 害 後 代 滿 足 其 需 求 的
能 力 。 就 工 商 界 而 言 , 可 持 續 發 展 涵 蓋 照 顧
員 工 、 關 愛 社 會 , 以 及 愛 護 環 境 。 近 年 來 ,
可 持 續 發 展 的 重 要 性 日 益 備 受 關 注 , 越 來 越
多 企 業 和 團 體 視 可 持 續 發 展 為 領 導 能 力 和 管
理 的 理 想 目 標 , 並 在 進 行 策 略 計 劃 和 管 理 業
務 運 作 時 將 之 納 入 考 慮 之 列 。
可 持 續 發 展 是 本 會 核 心 價 值 之 一 , 並 已 在 會
務 中 實 踐 , 本 會 亦 致 力 在 工 商 界 推 動 可 持 續
發 展 概 念 。
可 持 續 發 展 亦 是 本 會 2013 年 主 題 年 活 動 的
重 要 元 素 。 管 協 週 年 專 題 會 議 上 , 多 位 講 者
從 不 同 角 度 探 索 這 個 概 念 , 例 如 : 香 港 的 可
持 續 發 展 挑 戰 、 創 新 理 念 與 可 持 續 發 展 的 關
係 、 社 會 責 任 為 極 其 重 要 的 企 業 使 命 , 以 及
應 用 科 技 於 可 持 續 商 業 發 展 。 去 年 9 月 舉 辦
的 「 領 袖 圓 桌 會 議 」 以 可 持 續 發 展 為 主 題 ,
與 會 者 亦 討 論 了 這 概 念 如 何 應 用 於 中 小 企
業 。
為 鼓 勵 關 懷 員 工 的 最 佳 實 踐 , 管 協 正 為 家 庭
議 會 籌 辦 「 家 庭 友 善 僱 主 獎 勵 計 劃 」。 得 獎
者 將 獲 邀 與 本 會 會 員 分 享 經 驗 。 管 協 亦 通 過
「 最 佳 年 報 獎 」 鼓 勵 可 持 續 發 展 報 告 。 展 望
未 來 , 本 會 將 成 立 一 個 可 持 續 發 展 委 員 會 ,
開 拓 更 多 先 行 措 施 , 以 提 高 各 界 對 這 概 念 的
認 識 。
結 語
本 人 衷 心 感 謝 所 有 促 成 本 會 成 功 重 塑 品 牌 的
人 士 , 機 構 發 展 小 組 委 員 會 委 員 就 策 略 計 劃 提
供 了 重 要 指 導 , 而 本 會 會 員 、 學 員 、 理 事 會 、
各 委 員 會 成 員 和 廣 大 市 民 亦 提 供 了 不 少 寶 貴
意 見 。 全 賴 贊 助 人 及 參 與 者 鼎 力 支 持 , 本 會
活 動 方 可 取 得 圓 滿 成 果 。 總 裁 及 其 轄 下 的 能

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
總 裁 報 告
The year 2013 will be seen as a milestone in the development of the
Association as we took significant steps in shaping up our brand and
improving our services. I am pleased to report that the HKMA enjoyed
a very fruitful and eventful year, thanks to the generous support of our
members and the community.
Securing the Future: Change, Growth and Sustainability
The global economy has been changing at an unprecedented
pace. Mainland China and other emerging economies have become
more influential in shaping the new world order. At the same time,
technological advances and the rise of social media have created a new
landscape in the world of business. It is imperative for Hong Kong to
come up with new thinking to meet these changes and challenges.
The Association therefore adopted the theme “Securing the Future:
Change, Growth and Sustainability” in 2013 and organized a vast array
of activities pertaining to the theme. In September, the highlight of
the Theme Year activities, the Twenty-eighth Susan Yuen Memorial
Lecture was held with Mr Peter Wong, JP, Deputy Chairman and
Chief Executive Asia Pacific of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation Ltd as the Guest of Honour. Mr Wong spoke on “Managing
for Change: Hong Kong and the New Global Economy”. The Annual
Conference was organized in November. The Guest of Honour Prof the
Hon K C Chan, GBS JP, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury
of The Government of the HKSAR, delivered an inspiring speech on
the theme. The audience was also inspired by the presentations of
16 other distinguished speakers including two Keynote Speakers Mr
Mark McCombe, Chairman, Asia Pacific of BlackRock and Mr Alexander
Arena, Group Managing Director of HKT Ltd.
Our 2013 Theme Year Working Party as well as various Committees and
Specialist Clubs have also organized activities in support of the theme.
Some of the examples are two seminars on “Economic Growth and
Investment Opportunities in Hong Kong” and “Renewal Development
in Hong Kong from Different Perspectives”; company visits to the Zero
Carbon Building, the Waste Recycling Centre and the Caritas Computer
Workshop; a forum on “Hong Kong’s Way Out under the Financial
Turbulence”; and a Study Tour to Dongguan which included visits to
Wong’s Kong King International Holdings Ltd and Pacific Apparel Ltd
of TAL Group.
Other High Profile Activities
The Association continued to enjoy the support of business leaders
and government officials in its high profile functions. Prof the Hon
Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, GBS JP, Secretary for Transport and
Housing of The Government of the HKSAR was the Guest of Honour
at the Business Enterprise Management Centre Annual Dinner in
April, and spoke on the development of transport in Hong Kong
and how it could drive economic growth. In July, the Quality Award
Presentation Dinner was held with The Hon Gregory So Kam-leung,
2013 年 , 管 協 邁 出 重 要 一 步 , 著 力 重 塑 品
牌 和 完 善 本 會 服 務 , 可 視 為 本 會 發 展 的 一 個
里 程 碑 。 本 人 欣 然 報 告 , 全 賴 會 員 及 社 會 各

盛 、 成 績 斐 然 。
洞 悉 先 機 創 建 未 來
環 球 經 濟 變 化 空 前 迅 速 。 中 國 內 地 及 其 他 新
興 經 濟 體 在 塑 造 世 界 新 秩 序 現 已 更 具 影 響
力 。 同 時 , 科 技 發 展 及 社 交 媒 體 興 起 , 在 商
業 世 界 創 造 了 新 的 形 勢 。 香 港 急 須 創 新 思
維 , 以 應 對 有 關 變 化 和 挑 戰 。
因 此 , 管 協 遂 採 用 「 洞 悉 先 機 創 建 未 來 」
作 為 2013 年 的 主 題 , 並 圍 繞 這 主 題 舉 辦 了
一 系 列 活 動 。9 月 舉 行 的 重 點 活 動 是 第 28
屆 原 劉 素 珊 紀 念 講 座 , 香 港 上 海 匯 豐 銀 行
有 限 公 司 亞 太 區 副 主 席 兼 行 政 總 裁 王 冬 勝
太 平 紳 士 擔 任 主 禮 嘉 賓 , 並 以 「Managing
for Change: Hong Kong and the New Global
Economy」 為 題 發 表 演 說 。 週 年 專 題 會 議 在
11 月 舉 行 , 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 政 府 財 經 事 務
及 庫 務 局 局 長 陳 家 強 太 平 紳 士 擔 任 主 禮 嘉
賓 , 並 就 有 關 主 題 發 表 激 勵 人 心 的 講 話 。 另
外 ,16 位 傑 出 講 者 與 嘉 賓 分 享 寶 貴 心 得 ,
其 中 兩 位 主 講 嘉 賓 包 括 : 貝 萊 德 亞 太 區 主 席
馬 凱 博 先 生 及 香 港 電 訊 有 限 公 司 執 行 董 事 兼

2013 年 , 管 協 主 題 年 活 動 委 員 會 , 以 及 本

GBS JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of The
Government of the HKSAR as the Guest of Honour. He delivered a
speech on government support in enhancing the competitiveness of
Hong Kong enterprises and industries.
The Presentation Dinner of the HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing
Excellence took place in October. The Guest of Honour for the
occasion was Mr Fred Lam, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade
Development Council who delivered a thought-provoking speech
on marketing. At the Annual Fellowship Dinner in November, Mr
Norman T L Chan, GBS JP, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary
Authority was the Guest of Honour. He officiated at the New
HKMA Logo Launching Ceremony and gave a presentation entitled
“Black Bear, Blue Ocean, Wanton Noodles” to encourage Hong Kong
businesses to maintain their competitive edge.
Supporting SMEs in Doing Business
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the fundamental
building blocks of the Hong Kong economy. SMEs constitute over
98% of Hong Kong’s business units and account for close to half of
private sector employment.
While SMEs usually have strong adaptability, they are generally
more vulnerable to economic upheavals, rising costs and borrowing
difficulties. In recent years, rising rental costs were the major difficulty
of operating in Hong Kong while increasing material costs and rising
wages were considered by SMEs as the major obstacles of doing
business in Mainland China. Due to soaring operating costs, many
SME owners faced difficulties in accessing bank loans in both local and
Mainland banks. Other than financial challenges, SMEs are also facing
pressures in maintaining a healthy relationship with their employees
especially those on the frontline. These limitations have weakened
SMEs’ competitiveness vis-à-vis larger and multinational companies.
SME owners and employees constitute a significant part of the
Association’s membership base. We endeavour to support SMEs in
tackling these challenges through our services. In 2013, a number
of seminars and workshops catering to the needs of SMEs were
organized. Some of the topics included “Stay Resilient in Times of
Adversity”, “Using Cash Flow as Your Strategic Tool” and “Win the Talent
War through Effective Staff Engagement”. Complimentary seats were
offered to SMEs to attend our events such as the “Leadership and
Management” Seminar series which aimed to enhance the leadership
and management skills of business executives and provide networking
opportunities to participants.
Hong Kong Management Capability Index
Management capability is about the effectiveness of an organization
in utilizing its competences to achieve organizational goals. To keep
a finger on the pulse of Hong Kong’s management performance, our
Association inaugurated the Hong Kong Management Capability Index
(HKMCI) survey in 2013.
The Management Capability Index was established by the New
Zealand Institute of Management in 2003 to measure and establish a
baseline of management capability, to identify where improvements in
management performance could be made and to track performance
over time. The Index has so far been used by management institutes
in Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore to gain an
understanding of the management capabilities of organizations in
their respective countries, as well as benchmark their performance
among countries in the region.

中 小 企 是 香 港 經 濟 的 基 石 , 佔 香 港 企 業 98%
以 上 , 其 僱 員 佔 私 營 企 業 接 近 一 半 的 就 業 人 數
數 。
中 小 企 雖 然 通 常 有 較 強 的 適 應 能 力 , 但 一 般
更 易 受 經 濟 動 盪 、 成 本 上 升 及 借 貸 困 難 所 影
響 。 近 年 來 , 租 金 上 漲 是 在 港 營 商 的 主 要 困
難 , 而 材 料 成 本 上 升 及 工 資 上 漲 是 中 小 企 認
為 在 中 國 內 地 拓 展 業 務 的 主 要 障 礙 。 由 於 經
營 成 本 飆 升 , 不 少 中 小 企 東 主 難 以 向 本 港 或
內 地 銀 行 借 貸 。 除 財 政 方 面 的 挑 戰 , 中 小 企

The first Hong Kong survey was conducted in the second half of
2013 with input from our members. It is based on self-assessment
by organization leaders on 10 key drivers of management capability.
According to the research, the overall HKMCI compares favourably
with other countries adopting the Index. Hong Kong organizations
consider themselves as being most capable in the areas of “Integrity
and Corporate Governance” and “Financial Management”; and least
capable in the areas of “Organization Capability” as well as “Innovation
– Products and Services”. The results were officially announced at a
seminar on 28 February 2014.
Nurturing Human Capital through Management Education and
Training
Nurturing human capital through management education and training
has always been a focus of the Association. We are committed
to providing programmes which cater to the evolving needs of
companies and in-service executives.
In 2013, our Association collaborated with The Hong Kong and
China Gas Co Ltd in providing an in-house Leadership Development
Programme for their managers in the Mainland. Presented in
Putonghua by expert trainers from Hong Kong, the programme was
tailor-made for the company. This type of in-house training enables
executives in the Mainland to acquire knowledge and skills from the
experience of Hong Kong which are relevant to the needs of their
businesses. It is envisaged that other companies with operations in
the Mainland can also benefit from this service offered by the HKMA.
Apart from the above, we are developing new award-bearing programmes
for executives in different professions. In the year under review, the
Association has reached agreements with several universities in the United
Kingdom including Middlesex University, Glyndŵr University and the
University of the West of England in launching new degree programmes
in areas such as accounting and finance, human resources management
and marketing. A number of these programmes will be offered to local
executives starting from 2014.

BUSINESS ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT CENTRE
The Business Enterprise Management Centre (BEMC) was established
in 1984 to promote better management, especially for small and
medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
The BEMC conducts its activities in Chinese and coordinates other
educational activities of the Association which use Chinese as the
language medium. In 2013, the Centre organized a total of 651
Chinese programmes.

THE SECRETARIAT
STAFF INVOLVEMENT
Community Task Force
To cultivate a sense of belonging and social responsibility in Hong
Kong, the Community Task Force encourages staff members of the
Association to participate in a wide range of volunteer services and
donation campaigns organized by charitable institutions. In 2013,
those activities included Lunar New Year Gift Transfer Programme
of the St James' Settlement; Red Pockets Recycle Campaign of the
Greeners Action; Po Leung Kuk Charity Walk; Skip Lunch Day 2013,
Green Day, Dress Casual Day, Love Teeth Day of the Community Chest;
The Pass-it-On Campaign and Blood Donation Day of Hong Kong Red
Cross; DIY Suggest Scheme 2013 of the Volunteer Movement; Used
Clothes Recycling Programme of Friends of the Earth; Project Green
Moon 2013 of the Salvation Army; and Orange Ribbon Campaign of
the HKSKH Lady Maclehose Centre.
For 7 consecutive years, the Association was awarded the Caring
Organisation Logo by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service to
recognize it as a Caring Organisation in Hong Kong. The award
scheme aims to build a caring community spirit through cultivating
corporate citizenship and strategic partnership among the business,
public and social service sectors. It recognizes companies,
public-sector organizations and government departments which
advocate corporate social responsibility in the business community
and society generally.
Staff Welfare Task Force
The Association is committed to providing a caring workplace, and this
is exemplified through the provision of further study opportunities. The
Staff Welfare Task Force aims at cultivating a sense of belonging and
camaraderie among staff members. In 2013, it organized a variety of
cultural and recreational activities.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
The Association values the service of the loyal and professional
members who form its Secretariat. In 2013, a total of 11 staff
members received the Association’s long service award for 20 to
30 years of service. The Association is committed to staff training
and development. Staff members are encouraged to participate in
training programmes and courses. During the year, 14 staff members
pursued undergraduate and postgraduate studies offered by overseas
universities while 32 members attended diploma programmes and
short courses.

At the end of 2013, membership of the Association stood at 10,653.
MEMBERSHIP PROFILE
Types of Membership
Full Members, who constituted 5% of total membership in 2013, are
either persons 30 years of age or over, with a minimum of 8 years of
management experience, or those who hold recognized academic or
professional qualifications and who have had a satisfactory number
of years of practical experience. Full Members who have satisfied the
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of 40 hours
over the last two years are eligible to apply for the Professional
Manager designation. The designation permits business to look at
recipients with reasonable confidence as to their management ability
and professionalism.
Associate Members accounted for 31.4% of total membership. These are
persons engaged in management and they have reached the age of 21
and are actively involved in commerce, industry or a public organization.
Besides in-service executives, the Association has Student Members
who constituted 11.1% of membership. These are full-time postsecondary
college students who are interested in management and
attend approved courses in management or business.
The most notable of individual members are Fellows. They are persons
who have distinguished themselves in the management field either
by example, or by contributing towards the general body of theory,
philosophy and management practice.
Corporate Members are companies, institutions or other corporate
bodies. Their representation amounted to 17.9% of membership in
2013. Charter Members are corporate bodies or companies which are
admitted by invitation only. Their representation amounted to 33.6% of
membership.
TRADE & MANAGEMENT LEVEL
As in previous years, members comprised executives from a cross
section of trades and levels of management. Please refer to the charts
for further details.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT CREDIT UNIT
The Association has all along stressed the importance for managers to
continue their learning through planned development programmes. In
1985, the HKMA introduced systematic measurement of an individual’s
management development by the allocation and accumulation of
units (the Management Development Credit Unit) according to training
hours and achievements. Those with over 100 training hours receive
a certificate, and 2,341 participants were qualified for such certificates
in 2013. In addition, t special awards were presented. Neway
Karaoke Box Limited received an award for having sponsored
the greatest number of staff members in the Association's training
programmes. Hong Kong Broadband Network Ltd received an
award for having sponsored the greatest number of training hours on
the Association's training programmes.
MAINTAINING AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF PROGRAMMES
The Association has a long held mission of monitoring and improving
the quality of its work, and in particular its programmes.
Its quality assurance system involves active participation of
Management Committees, in-house faculty consultants and quality
control staff. Their work constantly aids the ways in which programmes
are designed and delivered.
Pre-course measurement is applied to the initial design of
programmes, selection of lecturers, review of course material,
preparation of recommended reading lists, screening of participants,
collection of participants’ comments and organization of training
seminars for lecturers. During courses, the Secretariat monitors class
attendance and the progress of each course by actually attending
selected classes. Participants’ career patterns are traced and feedback
from both participants and companies is collected and analyzed upon
completion of the courses.
COURSE ACTIVITIES
During 2013, 1,879 integrated and well-balanced courses were
attended by 29,781 participants with a total of 857,118 participanthours.
These programmes covered all the main areas of management
and were designed for different levels of need. The great majority of
the programmes were conducted by local lecturers and the rest were
led by experts from overseas. Summaries of these programmes are set
out in the schedules in Appendix 5.

Located in the northeast region of Nanchang, the Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) was founded in 1923
under the joint administration of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of the
Jiangxi Province. JUFE is a comprehensive university focusing on the economics and management disciplines. It also offers
programmes in other disciplines including law, engineering, humanities, science, agriculture and education.
Currently, JUFE has more than 40,000 students and over 1,500 faculty staff members. Driven by its internationalization
strategy, the University has established relationships with over 85 universities and institutions from 18 countries and regions.

DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
HKMA/LINGNAN UNIVERSITY JOINT DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT STUDIES (DMS)
The Association has been collaborating with Lingnan University in
offering the DMS Programme since February 1998.
It has helped to prepare programme participants with new perspectives
in strategic thinking, functional competencies in business and
management, and an appreciation of the competitive global business
environment.
In 2013, altogether 106 classes were held, with 2,241 participants
enrolled in the programme.
Graduates of the Summer Term, Autumn Term 2012 and Spring Term
2013 received their diplomas at the HKMA Annual Fellowship Dinner
held in November.
HKMA/LINGNAN UNIVERSITY JOINT DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (DBM)
This programme has been offered in conjunction with Lingnan
University since March 1998 and provides in-depth and practical
knowledge of management to executives and owners of smaller
businesses. The medium of instruction is Chinese. In 2013, altogether
118 classes were organized. Most participants came from smaller
businesses which sponsored them.

PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
Professional diploma programmes are for newly promoted managers,
more experienced executives who may lack formal training in their
respective fields, and technically educated executives and entrepreneurs.
Each diploma programme consists of seven modules, one of which is
a project. A diploma is awarded upon successful completion of all
modules within two consecutive terms.
EXECUTIVE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
Executive diploma programmes are designed for management
professionals on current popular topics. Each programme, consisting
of three modules, lasts for about four months. Participants who
successfully complete all modules will be awarded an executive
diploma.
IN-HOUSE PROJECTS
In 2013, altogether 28 courses and projects were organized for various
organizations. The training covered supervisory and managerial
techniques, salesmanship, customer service and other related areas.
EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
These programmes are organized by the Association’s various
Management Committees with local expertise drawn from the industry
and commerce sectors, universities and colleges, government and
public bodies. Altogether 54 such programmes were offered in 2013.

CERTIFICATE COURSES
Certificate courses cater to the needs of in-service executives of different
industries and are designed to equip them with the vital skills and
knowledge required in management and trade-related aspects. In 2013, the
Association organized 148 programmes which covered in-depth treatment
of specific areas on relatively broad job-related subjects. Upon completion
of the course, participants will be awarded certificates.
DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES
Distance learning courses provide a valuable means of management
training for those who cannot attend training courses regularly. The
courses are mainly designed to help those who wish to acquire basic
knowledge of management. Some distance learning courses are organized
in conjunction with the Hong Kong Spare Time Study Centre.
WORKPLACE ENGLISH PROGRAMMES
In support of the HKSAR’s Workplace English Campaign, preparatory
programmes for the Workplace English Benchmarking Examination were
launched in addition to a number of half-year intensive programmes.
The programmes aimed at helping participants to improve their English
language skills in preparation for the “International English Language
Testing System”(IELTS), which are locally and globally recognized English
language examinations for working adults. Altogether 7 workplace English
programmes were organized in the year under review.
THE HKMA TIN SHUI WAI CENTRE
In 1995, the HKMA Johnson Electric Tin Shui Wai Management
Development Centre commenced operation. It runs various part-time
management courses. The Diploma in Management Studies, Diploma in
Business Management, Secretarial Studies, Workplace English, Accounting,
Professional Beauty and Aromatherapy, Japanese Language Proficiency
Test and Putonghua Training courses were organized in 2013. The Centre
attracted more than 2,700 participants from the north-western part of the
New Territories.

THE HKMA LI KA-SHING COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL & CONTINUING EDUCATION
The HKMA Li Ka-shing College of Professional & Continuing Education
was established in 2000. Located in Mongkok West, it provides a
wide range of training and education programmes, including degree
programmes, computer courses, Workplace English and accounting/
language/management programmes.
THE HKMA COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION
Established in 2005, the HKMA College of Further Education (CFE) is an
education arm of the Association to offer accredited programmes. In
October 2010, the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and
Vocational Qualifications granted the CFE the status to operate learning
programmes that meet Qualifications Framework (QF) standard at Level
4 and accredited its programme, the Executive Diploma in Business
Management, at QF Level 4.
In addition, the College was appointed by the Employee Retraining Board
(ERB) as a Training Body in February 2011.
GUANGZHOU & SHENZHEN OFFICES
The offices in Guangzhou and Shenzhen provide strong support to
the Association’s various activities in the Pearl River Delta and other
parts of the Mainland. Their prime objectives are to cater to the
various needs of Mainland executives.
To further enhance the Association’s expanding activities on the Mainland,
partnerships are being established in major Mainland cities, including
Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhenjiang.

SECONDARY EDUCATION
THE HKMA K S LO COLLEGE
In the 2012-2013 school year, the College operated 28 classes from
Secondary One to Six. The total student enrolment stood at 1,029 and
the teaching staff, at 64. All the teachers were university or HKIEd
graduates, with 39 holding master degrees and one, a doctorate
degree.
The College’s second cohort of 189 Secondary Six graduates achieved
an overall pass rate of 94.4% in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary
Education Examination. Altogether 34.9% of the graduates fulfilled
minimum university entry requirements, which was the territory-wide
average. 37 students were offered places at local universities and the
Hong Kong Institute of Education, with 23 students proceeding to
degree programmes.
To develop students’ leadership skills, the school encourages upper
form students to organize various extra-curricular activities. In the
2012-2013 school year, there were 4 houses and 47 interest clubs.
Students also took part in many inter-school sports and academic
competitions and won more than 100 awards.

THE HKMA DAVID LI KWOK PO COLLEGE
Founded in 2000, the College has operated under the Government’s
Direct Subsidy Scheme with the mission of providing a well-rounded
education to enable the total development of its students. In the 2012-
2013 school year, the College had 25 classes ranging from Secondary
One to Six, with a total of 805 students.
The College employed 63 teachers, all of whom were University degree
holders. 23 held a master’s degree, with one teacher holding a PhD. 62
teachers had completed their initial teacher training and were holders
of a postgraduate teacher’s certificate. To preserve its international
and multicultural characteristics, the College continued to employ a
proportion of teachers who came from places other than Hong Kong.
As regards the 103 students who participated in the Hong Kong
Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, the university entrance
requirement rate for degree programmes was 56.3%, well above the
Hong Kong norm of 38.9%. All 17 subjects concerned obtained a
percentage of Level 2 grades, higher than their respective Hong Kong
averages. 13 subjects secured a 100% pass rate.
During 2012-2013, the College continued to be governed by an
Incorporated Management Committee. In line with its School
Development Plan, the College focused on two specific areas, namely,
to further develop care and to further develop teaching and learning.
In 2012-2013, the College introduced iPad based teaching as a way of
enhancing student centred learning.
The College continued to attract strong interest from among
prospective parents, due in part to its emphasis on developing fluency
in English and its international outlook.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The Annual Conference, a major 1-day event of the Association, was held
on 12 November 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Centre with “Securing the Future : Change, Growth and Sustainability” as
its theme. The Conference, chaired by Mr Jay H Walder, Chief Executive
Officer of MTR Corporation, attracted around 400 senior executives. A total
of 17 speakers addressed to participants during the Conference.

THEME YEAR ACTIVITIES
Since 1985, the Association has been introducing a theme year concept
to its work in order to foster greater focus on various management
activities. For 201, the Association adopted “Securing the Future
Change, Growth and Sustainability”. The objective is to stimulate new

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Award has been organized by the Human Resources Development
Management Committee since 1990 to give public recognition of
achievements in training and development to individuals as well as
companies.
The 2013 Awards consisted of two categories, namely the Campaign
Awards and the Individual Awards. The Campaign Awards were then
divided into Skills Training Category and Development Category.

CHINA BEST ANNUAL REPORTS AWARDS FOR LISTED COMPANIES
To give recognition to China’s listed companies who have produced
informative and well presented reports and accounts for the benefit
of investors, shareholders, employees and the general public, as well
as to raise the awareness of the importance of corporate governance
in the Mainland, the Association, in cooperation with Investor Journal
of Beijing, launched the second China Best Annual Reports Awards for
Listed Companies in May 2013.
This year, altogether 2,468 listed companies from the Shanghai Stock
Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange have been assessed. 300
listed companies have been shortlisted in the first round. 3 academics
from the University of International Business and Economics have
shortlisted top 50 finalists for final judging.

HKMA/TVB AWARDS FOR MARKETING EXCELLENCE
To give due recognition to outstanding marketing campaigns
and marketers and to upgrade the profession of marketing in
Hong Kong, the Marketing Management Committee has been
organizing the HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing Excellence since
1985. Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has been sponsoring the
Awards since 1989.
The 201 Awards consisted of two categories, namely the Campaign
Awards and the Individual Awards.

Presentation Award was selected by all the participants attending
the Seminar.

QUALITY AWARD
This prestigious annual award was introduced in 1991 to give
recognition to those organizations that have achieved outstanding
standards in quality and have made a lasting commitment to the
process of quality management.
The applicants for the 2013 Quality Award submitted written
presentations on their quality programmes which were scrutinized
by the Board of Examiners chaired by Prof Matthew Yuen. Other
examiners included Mr Eric Chow, Ms Katherine Lau, Ms Ivy Leung,
Mr Johnathan Lui, Mr James Ma and Mr Chester Tsang.
The Examiners recommended Kum Shing Group as the Gold Award
Winner; Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited as the Silver Award
Winner and The Great Eagle Properties Management Co Ltd as the
Bronze Award Winner. The recommendations were subsequently
endorsed by the Panel of Judges. A Special Award for SMEs was
presented for the 9th time. The winner was Inarc Design Hong Kong
Limited.

AWARD FOR CHINA MARKETING EXCELLENCE
To give recognition to outstanding marketing campaigns in Mainland
China, the Association, in cooperation with The Economic Observer,
organized the Award for China Marketing Excellence. The China
Marketing Award adopted the judging system of the HKMA/TVB
Awards for Marketing Excellence.
The 2013 Award consisted of 4 categories, namely: “Durable Goods”,
“Fast-Moving Consumer Goods”, “Finance” and “Services Culture and
Others”. More than 100 entries were received and reviewed by the
Board of Examiners.

HONG KONG MANAGEMENT GAME
In its 43rd year, the Hong Kong Management Game, a computerized
competition based on business simulation, commenced with the Official
Round which started on 5 June 2013. The Hong Kong Final was held on
3 August 2013. After six rounds of competition, the team ”Wharf T & T
Limited”, emerged as the Hong Kong Champion and was awarded a cash
prize of HK$5,000, four round-trip air tickets to Singapore sponsored by
Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, as well as the SCMP Perpetual Trophy sponsored
by the South China Morning Post. The first runner-up team received a
cash prize of HK$3,000 and the second runner-up team received HK$2,000.
This year, the cash prize sponsor was Stelux Holdings International Limited
while the South China Morning Post, Classified Post and Jiu Jik were media
sponsors of the Game.
ASIAN MANAGEMENT GAME
In August, the 2013 Asian Management Game was hosted by the Macau
Management Association. Teams from the region, who were winners
of the respective management games, competed for the regional
championship. After periods of intense competition, a team from
Macau gained the honour of Regional Champion. Other participating
teams came from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand,
Singapore and Vietnam.

SUSAN YUEN MEMORIAL LECTURE
The twenty-eighth in the series of Memorial Lectures organized in
recognition of the late Mrs Susan Yuen was held on 27 September 2013
at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. Mr Peter Wong, JP, Deputy
Chairman and Chief Executive Asia Pacific, The Hongkong and Shanghai
Banking Corporation Ltd, delivered an enlightening speech on the
theme of “Managing for Change : Hong Kong and the New Global
Economy”. This special event marked yet another successful Theme
Year activity organized by the 2013 Theme Year Working Party. The
presentation ceremony of the 2013 Award for Excellence in Training
and Development organized by the Association was also held on this

SUSAN YUEN FELLOWSHIP AND RESEARCH FOUNDATION
The Susan Yuen Fellowship and Research Foundation was established
in 1976 by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and The Hong

AAMO is a partnership of National Management Organisations (NMOs)
in the Asian region whose purpose is to share and actively leverage
resources to enhance the achievement of their respective missions.
AAMO is an independent, non-political and non-profit-making
association of NMOs, which promotes, facilitates and supports the
development of professional management in the Asia Pacific region.
The current 17 members of AAMO include Australia, Cambodia,
Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius,
Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South
Korea and Sri Lanka.
In 2013, the Presidency of AAMO rested with the Australian Institute
of Management (AIM) and Mr Bryan Nye, National President of the
AIM, was appointed as AAMO President for the period 2013 - 2016.

First published in 1965, the Hong Kong Manager, a bilingual
professional journal of the Association, has become a monthly
e-newsletter, which contains not only management journals but also
the up-to-date information of the Association. Members can get free
access through the website of the HKMA (www.hkma.org.hk).
LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES
The Association’s library has a special collection of management books
as well as reference material. The library facility is free of charge to all
members.

The Association operates under its auspices 8 autonomous specialist
clubs. These clubs provide opportunities for members with similar
interests to meet and develop further their specialist knowledge as
well as a sense of involvement in the Association.
Activities of the clubs are initiated by each club’s Executive Committee
and they take the form of luncheon meetings, forum discussions,
seminars, research into particular subjects, study visits to places of
interest in Hong Kong and overseas, and social gatherings.

The CEC aims at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of
management in Hong Kong, and at establishing and maintaining
an association for persons and organizations concerned with, and
interested in, management.
The CEC had a varied and active year, with a compact programme of
talks and seminars. These were supplemented by the Spring Dinner
2013; a 5-day study tour to Chengdu; and an outing to Chime Long.

HKMA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (HKMAAA)

To develop a stronger network, the former DMSAA and DBMAA have
been merged with the newly established HKMA Alumni Association.
The merger enables the single alumni association to generate a
bigger mass of alumni.
The major objectives of the Alumni Association are to reinforce ties
between the HKMA and its graduates and promote fellowship among
them; to promote the goodwill of the Association and the alma mater;
to facilitate experience sharing and networking among alumni; and to
promote the concept of lifelong learning.
Some of the activities in 2013 included the Annual General Meeting
and visits to Cathay Pacific City, HAECO, Hong Kong Jockey Club and
Hung Fook Tong Herbal Tea Cultural Museum.

The HKTUG provides a means whereby users of telecommunication
facilities and services can exchange information, experiences and
concepts to benefit individual members and organizations they serve.
It encourages development in the field of telecommunication. It also
promotes, supports and encourages the maintenance and development
of domestic and international telecommunications capability to meet
the requirements of member organizations. The HKTUG also coorganizes
a joint luncheon talk with the IT Management Club annually.

The M & M Club provides a forum for those involved or otherwise
interested in systems, procedures, organization and methods and
related areas of management. It facilitates the interchange of ideas
and experiences among managers employed in different business
and public sectors. This year, the club organized a visit to Hong Kong
Cyberport Management Co Ltd.

The Club provides sales and marketing executives with effective and
continuing professional leadership. It promotes a higher standard of
living through better selling and marketing.
The 45th Distinguished Salesperson Award (DSA) was again a high
point of the Club’s activities. Established in 1968, the DSA aims at
giving recognition to outstanding salespersons and increasing the
awareness of professionalism in salesmanship in Hong Kong.
At the DSA Presentation Ceremony this year, 132 salespersons from 57
leading companies received awards. The event was well attended by
around 1,000 guests, with the Hon Jasper Tsang, GBS, JP, President
of the Legislative Council, The Government of the HKSAR as the Guest
of Honour.
The Panel of Adjudicators comprised Mr Chan Siu Po, Mr Ken Chang,
Mr Buston Chu, Ms Joanne Fan, Ms Anna Hung, Mr Peter Hung,
Dr Witman Hung, Dr Simon Kwok, Mr James Lu, Ms Cecilia Luk,

The Club encourages the introduction and the adoption of sound
personnel policies and practices into Hong Kong’s commerce and
industry. It assists in promoting good management and labour
relations in Hong Kong. It also provides a meeting ground for persons
from all fields who are interested in, or have responsibilities for,
personnel management.
Some of the activities in 2013 included an Annual Fellowship Dinner
and visits to Hung Fook Tong Herbal Tea Cultural Museum, Cathay
Pacific City, and North District Hospital. The Club was also invited to
be a supporting organization of the HR Congress 2013 which was
