For example, the panel on ‘Educating for Faith Formation’ may include a photo of a Faust-era football team praying around the Our Lady of Moeller statue with a brief vignette by a student who tells how faith is incorporated into all aspects of Moeller life.” Unifying Theme The Graff Designs team had one more vision to convey as they unveiled the most important design element. “As a unifying theme that flows throughout the panels, there will be hundreds of affirmative statements by the current students and alumni that ends with ‘I am a Man of Moeller,’ explained Mikki Graff, graphic designer of the exhibit. “This will stand for decades to come as the definitive statement of what it means to be a Man of Moeller.” Mass Dedication & Blessing On Thursday, September 29, “The Moeller Story” exhibit was officially unveiled and blessed as part of an all-school Mass. “On the day of the blessing and dedication I had the pleasure to personally view the Timeline side by side with Gerry Faust and Phil Gigliotti,” said Advancement Director Debbie Geiger. “That brought even more meaning for me to hear them respond to the pictures and the memories of the exhibit. After hearing that they were pleased and impressed with the exhibit, I knew we did a good job of telling ‘The Moeller Story.’ ” Perspectives “The Timeline project was a reflection of the devotion many people have for Moeller High School,” said alumnus and exhibit benefactor Ted Catino ’79. “The commitment and dedication put forth by all those involved is Sister Judy Klei, R.S.M. (above) was an original member of the Timeline project team. Becky and I appreciated having the opportunity to be a small part in a great project for a wonderful organization.” Exhibit benefactors Curt and Linda Curran agreed. “It is an honor to be a part of the Moeller Family,” they said. “Our prayer is that the Timeline will inspire the young Men of Moeller to appreciate the past, acknowledge the present, and embrace the future of this wonderful institution.” “When Graff Designs began the project, we were somewhat familiar with Moeller,” said Daniel Graff. “We knew it was a Catholic high school with a strong sense of pride and tradition. We were familiar with the theater program there as well as its strong athletic program. The most significant aspect about Moeller that we learned from doing this project is the sense of family and community that the school nurtures. We hadn’t been in the project more than a week or two when we started thinking of Graff Designs as part of that family, too. We were – and still are – in awe of the people who give of themselves to make Moeller High School an amazing place. And not just for the four years that they are a student or a parent of a student at the school – but for 20, 30, and 40 years.” Mikki Graff added, “Part of the project included gathering ‘I am a Man of Moeller” statements from students and alumni who shared how Moeller had changed their lives,” she said. “We knew it was going to be a powerful message, but when I read the hundreds of responses coming into the Graff Designs office, they brought tears to my eyes. I hope that the teachers, parents, coaches, administrators, and volunteers realize that they have made a meaningful difference in so many lives.” M Exhibit Content After several months of research, in July 2011 the Graff Designs team presented their content proposal to the committee. “We have developed this content using the surveys, magazines, and other provided source material,” explained Mikki Graff. “Obviously, space constraints keep us from including the hundreds of people who have ‘built’ Moeller.” To assist with this part of the process, the Moeller steering committee enlisted a few school “experts” who had lived and experienced much of Moeller’s history and who could provide a fair perspective: Barry Borman ’64 (one of the 196 original freshmen in 1960 – and who returned in 1969 to teach), Bill Braun ’72 (returned to teach in 1977), and Carl Kremer (began his tenure in 1984). Together, they worked with President Bill Hunt and others to whittle through the choices the Graffs presented. “We knew from the beginning that this would be the most difficult part,” said Hunt. “Even though it’s a sizable exhibit, to condense the incredibly rich history into the space we did have was a real challenge. At several points I stood back and reveled in peoples’ remembrances of times, places, incidents, etc. that have shaped this remarkable school. And, as usual, most of the memories centered around people, their powerful stories, and the building of the Moeller Family.” Brief Honorary Biographies “Although coming up with the first honorary biographies was difficult in many ways,” said Geiger, “we also knew that we would be able to update these every year. There are so many people who deserve to be represented under each of the five Characteristics of a Marianist Education. DEAN MEISZER, BROTHER EVESLAGE AWARD: Presented to an individual who through years of tireless effort has made significant contributions to the growth of Moeller: Dean Meiszer is a co-founder and president of CBank. The bank was formed in 2007 to provide Commercial Banking services to locally owned companies in the Greater Cincinnati market. Furthermore, CBank provides private banking products and services to the area business owners and professionals in our community. Prior to forming CBank, Dean had a 17-year investment and merchant banking career with The Crisler Company and other related enterprises. Upon graduation from Bowling Green State University, he joined Key Bank where he worked for his first 11 years while simultaneously earning an MBA at Xavier University. He and his wife, Susan, have two children, Nicholas ’06 and Natalie (MND ’08). Dean is the past chair of Moeller’s Finance Committee and vice chair of the Advisory Board where he worked closely with the Moeller administration for eight years. CAMERON JAY RAINS ’74, DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD: Presented to a graduate who has given outstanding service to his community and who has distinguished himself as a Moeller alumnus: Jay Rains is a partner with DLA Piper, one of the world’s largest law firms, where he is global co-chair of the firm’s Corporate and Securities Group and a member of the firm’s executive committee.
