Domestica [19] ASBESTOLITE Pty Ltd. Modern Homes of Genuine “Asbestolite” Asbestos-Cement Sheets. Manufactured in South Australia [wrapper title]. Adelaide, Asbestolite Proprietary Limited, May 1957. Oblong quarto, pp. 16 (including wrappers), printed in two colours; original colour illustrated titling-wrappers, a shallow old vertical fold but near fine. $330 Rare. Catalogue ‘A.20’ May, 1957. The trade mark of Adelaide-based Asbestolite Pty Ltd was registered in 1941. The firm was taken over by James Hardie Industries towards the end of the 1950s and they continued the Asbestolite lines (usually renamed) and, interestingly, some of their promotional material, changing only the name of the manufacturer.

Octavo, pp. 64, very richly illustrated with photographs and line drawings, printed on art paper; staples rusted and the wrappers detaching, that apart, a fine clean copy, the wrappers with the lightest use. $330 Very scarce. Manufacturers in East Brunswick, Victoria, of metal hand gates, wrought iron gates, wrought iron panels, metal driveway gates, chain wire fence fabric, tennis court enclosures, ringlock farm fence, ringlock pig fence, shop front guards, machinery guards, etc., etc., all of which are illustrated and described in the catalogue, making this a very well illustrated and comprehensive guide to functional and decorative domestic wrought iron and other metal work of the late 1920s and into the early 1930s. We can only locate copies of Austral’s Catalogue 8 (Monash University, bought from us in 2006) and Catalogue 15 (State Library of Victoria).
