The streets are alive with the sound of music!
Make Music New York is back for a fourth year,
with over 1,000 free concerts in public spaces
throughout the five boroughs of New York City,
all on the first day of summer.
On Monday, June 21, from 10 in the morning until
10 at night, musicians of all ages and musical
persuasions — from hip-hop to opera, Latin jazz to
punk rock — will make music on streets, sidewalks,
schoolyards, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and
gardens. As always, concerts are performed by
anyone who wants to take part, and enjoyed by
everyone who wants to attend.
In cooperation with the City of New York, this year’s
MMNY features an incredible array of special events.
From the visionary percussion music of Iannis Xenakis
surrounding the Central Park Lake pg.5, to a New
Orleans-style jazz parade pg.13, “Take Your Musician
To School Day,” 130+ bands of Punk Island pg.14, and
guitar-slinging office workers of Play Hard pg.13, there
is something for every listener.
And many ways to make music yourself: bring
