The streets are alive with the sound <strong>of</strong> music!<br />

Make Music New York is back for a fourth year,<br />

with <strong>over</strong> 1,<strong>000</strong> <strong>free</strong> <strong>concerts</strong> <strong>in</strong> public spaces<br />

throughout the five boroughs <strong>of</strong> New York City,<br />

all on the first <strong>day</strong> <strong>of</strong> summer.<br />

On <strong>Mon<strong>day</strong></strong>, <strong>June</strong> <strong>21</strong>, from 10 <strong>in</strong> the morn<strong>in</strong>g until<br />

10 at night, musicians <strong>of</strong> all ages and musical<br />

persuasions — from hip-hop to opera, Lat<strong>in</strong> jazz to<br />

punk rock — will make music on streets, sidewalks,<br />

schoolyards, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and<br />

gardens. As always, <strong>concerts</strong> are performed by<br />

any<strong>one</strong> who wants to take part, and enjoyed by<br />

every<strong>one</strong> who wants to attend.<br />

In cooperation with the City <strong>of</strong> New York, this year’s<br />

MMNY features an <strong>in</strong>credible array <strong>of</strong> special events.<br />

From the visionary percussion music <strong>of</strong> Iannis Xenakis<br />

surround<strong>in</strong>g the Central Park Lake pg.5, to a New<br />

Orleans-style jazz parade pg.13, “Take Your Musician<br />

To School Day,” 130+ bands <strong>of</strong> Punk Island pg.14, and<br />

guitar-sl<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>fice workers <strong>of</strong> Play Hard pg.13, there<br />

is someth<strong>in</strong>g for every listener.<br />

And many ways to make music yourself: br<strong>in</strong>g<br />
