A period of study spent abroad will enrich you personally and academically and offer a significant advantage for your future career. <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Cork</strong> offers a wide range of study abroad options across the globe. Through the ERASMUS programme, the <strong>University</strong> has developed extensive links with partner universit<strong>ie</strong>s in virtually all member states of the EU. UCC also offers a wide range of links with North American, Chinese and Australian universit<strong>ie</strong>s. Other study abroad opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s are available in Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore and South Korea. North America UCC is involved in a number of scholarship and exchange programmes which enable students to study at a partner university in the United States of America or Canada. Options currently available include Boston <strong>College</strong>, Salve Regina <strong>University</strong> in Rhode Island, the <strong>University</strong> of California, the <strong>University</strong> of Massachusetts at Amherst, the <strong>University</strong> of Montana, the <strong>University</strong> of Texas at Dallas, Washington <strong>College</strong>, Maryland, the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Concordia <strong>University</strong> in Montreal and St. Mary’s <strong>University</strong> in Nova Scotia. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce degree have the opportunity to spend the third year of the programme at partner universit<strong>ie</strong>s in the US and Canada. BComm students can choose from a number of different options including Babson <strong>College</strong> in Massachusetts, North Carolina State <strong>University</strong> at Raleigh, the <strong>University</strong> of Cincinnati in Ohio, Pace <strong>University</strong> in New York City, Suffolk <strong>University</strong> in Massachusetts, <strong>University</strong> of San D<strong>ie</strong>go, California and the <strong>University</strong> of Ottawa Business School. The Department of Music offers attractive exchange opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s at Wesleyan <strong>University</strong> in Connecticut and Wheaton <strong>College</strong> in Massachusetts, while students pursuing the BCL International degree may spend an academic year at Temple <strong>University</strong> Law School in Philadelphia or St Louis <strong>University</strong> Law School in Missouri (there are also European options available under this programme at the <strong>University</strong> of Oslo, Leiden <strong>University</strong> and Charles <strong>University</strong> in Prague). Opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s are also available to students enrolled in the BA (Drama and Theatre Stud<strong>ie</strong>s – International). In addition, each year one UCC student is selected to study at the <strong>University</strong> of Maine under the George J. Mitchell Peace Scholarship programme. There are also opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s to study at a range of universit<strong>ie</strong>s in states such as Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. Australia UCC’s partner universit<strong>ie</strong>s in Australia include : Edith Cowan <strong>University</strong>, Western Australia Deakin <strong>University</strong>, Victoria Griffith <strong>University</strong>, Queensland <strong>University</strong> of Tasmania Macquar<strong>ie</strong> <strong>University</strong>, New South Wales <strong>University</strong> of Western Sydney, New South Wales <strong>University</strong> of Wollongong, New South Wales Europe The ERASMUS programme enables students from different programmes to undertake up to a year of undergraduate or postgraduate study at a continental <strong>University</strong>. The linguistic, intellectual, cultural and social value of the period spent abroad has made participation in the programme a highly popular choice for students. Programmes at UCC which provide for a compulsory year abroad in Europe include: • BA (Language and Cultural Stud<strong>ie</strong>s) Pathway • BA (European Stud<strong>ie</strong>s) Pathway • BA (Drama and Theatre Stud<strong>ie</strong>s – International) Pathway • BCL French/ BCL German/ BCL International • BComm (International) - French/German/Spanish/Italian/ Irish. Students of the BComm International/Irish also have the opportunity to choose a placement with an associated project in an organisation which conducts its business through the medium of Irish. In all cases, you will follow a programme at one of our partner institutions in Europe where you will improve your language profic<strong>ie</strong>ncy and gain insights into other academic, cultural and social systems. On your return to UCC, full academic credit will be awarded for courses taken. You pay no extra fees at the partner university and you will also receive a modest grant. UCC has over 150 partner universit<strong>ie</strong>s across Europe in cit<strong>ie</strong>s such as Barcelona, Munich, Paris, Rome and V<strong>ie</strong>nna. China If you opt to pursue the BA (Chinese Stud<strong>ie</strong>s) Pathway or the BComm International/Chinese Stud<strong>ie</strong>s you will spend the third year of the programme at a Chinese partner university improving your language and intercultural skills.
