1. We operate on a six-day schedule; 1 through 6 day.<br />

2. Each day students have five (5) core subjects and two (2) special area subjects. All students are assigned<br />

their Core classes within their team and their special area classes across the grade level.<br />

3. All sixth graders will eat lunch at 10:50 am with their team.<br />

4. From 1:35 - 2:15 pm each day we have Basic Instruction. Basic Instruction is based on a Monday through<br />

Friday schedule.<br />

Monday - Clubs such as; student council, jazz band, orchestra, show biz dancers, TV studio, yearbook,<br />

art, math help, school spirit, etc. Students not involved in a club are assigned to intramurals.<br />

Tuesday - team study halls, peer tutoring, 7th/8th grade chorus, 6th grade band, special<br />

area make-up, extra help<br />

Wednesday - team study halls, peer tutoring, 6th grade chorus, 7th/8th grade band,<br />

special area make-up, extra help<br />

Thursday - team study halls, peer tutoring, special chorus, orchestra, special<br />

area make-up, extra help<br />

Friday - Prime Time Activities<br />

5. Every morning students begin their day in their Prime Time. This is a small group of 12 to 15 students with<br />

one teacher. At the end of each day all students report back to their Prime Time for dismissal. On two Friday’s<br />

a month, all Prime Times participate in Olweus Bullying Groups.<br />

6. Instrumental lessons are scheduled as a pull out which rotates through the day. All group lessons in both<br />

band and chorus are during Basic Instruction periods.<br />

7. AT students are assigned to an AT Literacy class and will meet with the AT teachers two periods per cycle.<br />

Some students will also attend the AT classroom during Basic Instruction.<br />

8. Next year we will have three teams at 6th grade, two teams at 8th grade and three teams at 7th grade.<br />

Students will be assigned new teams in both 7 th grade and 8 th grade. These teams are randomly selected. In 8th


grade we add midterms and finals for the students with the emphasis being placed on the preparation for these<br />

tests more so than the grades themselves. This becomes part of our transition to 9th grade.<br />

If you need your child to be separated from one or more students, please email Mrs. Thacher and Mr. Vosburgh<br />

on or before May 11, 2012.<br />

9. Teams have the option to modify their schedules at any time as long as they notify the office.<br />

10. Learning support students are assigned support classes based upon the recommendations found within their<br />

IEP. Transition meetings will take place during April/May.<br />

11. There is a Core and Extended Core English class in the sixth grade. Students will need to enroll in the<br />

Extended Core English based upon their 5th grade language Arts and Writing grades. Students not requesting<br />

the Extended Core class will be placed in Core English.<br />

12. There are common assessments in each of the 5 core subject areas of English, social studies, math, science<br />

and Literacy to guarantee curriculum taught on each team.<br />

13. Math placement will be determined by testing, which the middle school will set up with each of the<br />

Elementary <strong>School</strong>s beginning in May. Possible courses include; Course 1, Course 2A, Course 3A, Course<br />

3AB, Algebra.<br />

14. We also use the Point-of-Sale system in our cafeterias and your son/daughter’s account and passwords will<br />

follow them to the middle school.<br />
