<strong>June</strong> <strong>14</strong>, <strong>2010</strong><strong>7th</strong> & <strong>8th</strong> <strong>Grade</strong> <strong>Boys</strong> <strong>Soccer</strong> <strong>Players</strong>,<strong>With</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>school</strong> year nearly over, and only a few months of summer, it won’t be longuntil we are back to playing interscholastic soccer at Charles F. Patton Middle School. <strong>With</strong> <strong>the</strong>beginning of <strong>the</strong> season just a few short months away, it is time to set your calendars. Similar tolast year, we will run a series of tests and some scrimmage and skill work before cuts will bemade. As your coaches, we need to let you know that we will be evaluating your conditioninglevel, skill level and attitude during <strong>the</strong>se testing periods. As many of you are aware, <strong>the</strong>re area limited amount of roster positions for each team. Every year a substantial number of athletescompete, during tryouts, for <strong>the</strong>se very few roster spots. During tryouts <strong>the</strong> coaches will beevaluating each and every athlete until <strong>the</strong> final cuts are made. Remember, <strong>the</strong> first step in tryingout for our team is to have your physical form and PIAA paperwork completed and turned intoMr. Woodland our Athletic Director. No one will be allowed to practice without a completedphysical form & signed permission slip..Tryouts:*Tryouts will be used by <strong>the</strong> coaches to select <strong>the</strong> players that will give <strong>the</strong> team <strong>the</strong>best opportunity to be successful.*Missing any tryout dates will negatively impact your ability to make our team.*All tryout decisions by <strong>the</strong> coaching staff are final.**Our practice tryouts will run from 2:35 pm to 4:35 pm.Each player will be tested on:• 1600 M. Run• 40 yards \ sprint• 20 yards \ 6 cones dribble• Vertical jump• Juggling• 1 v.1• Scrimmage [11 v 11 - 5 v 4 - 4 v 4 - 3 v 2]Please bring <strong>the</strong> following equipment:• Shirts• Shorts• Athletic Supporter• Shin Guards• Sneakers and \ or <strong>Soccer</strong> Shoes [flats only for <strong>the</strong> first week of practice]


Our Tenative Practice schedule for <strong>the</strong> first week will be as follows: (wea<strong>the</strong>r permitting)Monday, August 30, <strong>2010</strong>No practice for any players, but all physicals and parental signatures mustbe turned into Mr. Woodland our Athletic Director before <strong>the</strong> first day of practice.Tuesday, August 31, <strong>2010</strong> [<strong>8th</strong> graders only] - testing \ scrimmageWednesday, September 1, <strong>2010</strong> [<strong>7th</strong> graders only] - testing \ scrimmageThursday, September 2, <strong>2010</strong> combined <strong>7th</strong> & <strong>8th</strong> grade teamsFriday, September 3, <strong>2010</strong> & Monday September 6, <strong>2010</strong> *No practice*Tuesday, September 7, <strong>2010</strong> combined <strong>7th</strong> & <strong>8th</strong> grade teams [Last day of try outs]** cuts will be made at <strong>the</strong> end of practice**As stated earlier, cuts will be made on 9/7/<strong>2010</strong>, so have your paperwork completed on time!After <strong>the</strong> cuts have been made, regular daily team practice for both teams will begin onWednesday September 8, <strong>2010</strong> for all <strong>7th</strong> and <strong>8th</strong> grade team members. All team members areexpected to report to practice ready to play. Our first game will be Home on TuesdaySeptember <strong>14</strong>, <strong>2010</strong> against Penns Grove.The results of <strong>the</strong>se tests, your attitude, along with your performance on <strong>the</strong> field, willdetermine whe<strong>the</strong>r or not you make our <strong>7th</strong> & <strong>8th</strong> grade team and possibly what position youmight play. It is important that you come back to <strong>school</strong> in August in shape and ready to helpyour team. Every player will be tested and evaluated on <strong>the</strong> field. Do not expect that you willmake <strong>the</strong> team or play in a particular position on our team because of what you did last year as a<strong>7th</strong> grader or what you have accomplished in club soccer.
