Day of Prayer for Israel

This day, of course, has been set aside as
a day of prayer. So no matter what else you do to
educate your teens and create interest and discussion,
you must deliberately plan your schedule
so that there is plenty of time to actually pray. If
you have only a one hour service, we suggest a
minimum of 15-20 minutes out of that hour. If you
have two hours, plan 30-45 minutes at least. You
know your group and their level of spiritual interest
in prayer, so plan accordingly.
If you have not done it already, hand out
copies of the scriptures to each person. Depending
on the teens, they may or may not be familiar with
“praying the scriptures” over Israel. So prayer
time could putter out fairly quickly when they run
out of things to pray out of their natural minds.
But more importantly we want them to know the
promises God has made over Israel. So teaching
them to pray the specific scriptures over Israel
becomes not just more effective than praying out
of our human intellect, but it is more powerful
because we are coming into agreement with God
over what He has already said about Israel.
With this in mind we have included a
couple of pages (18-19) of scriptures about Isreal.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, and we
encourage you to add any more that your hcurch
may be handing out or that you have available. The
point is you want to arm your teens with concrete
prophetic promises from God. Again depending on
your group, you may have to actually show them
how to take a scripture and convert it into a prayer.
Feel free to “practice” with a couple of verses until
they are comfortable with the idea.
Once they are ready, depending on the size
of your group and the acoustics of your room, you
may want to set up a couple of open mics allowing
the teens to use them as they pray so they are
clearly heard. It is difficult to join in group prayer
when several have soft voices. If others want to
shout their “Amen’s” and other words of agreement,
they easily drown out the pray-er.
You can sit or stand, come to the front, or
if you went to the effort of creating an imitation
“wailing wall” you might even encourage your
students to go to the wall in effigy and pray over
Israel. To inspire your students we have provided a
video included as an MP4 of one of our children’s
and youth conferences where we did this very
thing. It was one of the most powerful prayer times
we’ve ever had. Showing this video in advance
seeing their peers praying fervently over Israel
may be the spark you need to pry them from shyness
to boldness and into Spirit led prayer.
