Foreword<br />
The latest catalogue of C.R.<strong>Kennedy</strong> surveying and<br />
construction equipment exhibits some of the most exciting<br />
technologies on today’s market. Leica Geosystems has<br />
continued to earn its place as a world leader in surveying<br />
technologies with the release of their Viva range of GPS/<br />
GNSS and TPS sensors.<br />
Leica Geosystems and C.R.<strong>Kennedy</strong> together have created<br />
SmartNet Aus, a CORS network of GNSS reference stations<br />
across Australia, opening vast new potentials in surveying,<br />
agriculture, and asset monitoring. The subscription based<br />
service is continually expanding and private owners may add<br />
their own base stations to the network in return for royalties.<br />
In the construction field, Leica continues to build on its<br />
20 years of Disto models with a completely new D series<br />
range, and new line and point lasers. The new Digicat 550i<br />

Problems with<br />
conventional RTK<br />
Single Base RTK: One of the problems<br />
with current Single Base RTK solutions<br />
is distance dependant errors. The<br />
further the rover gets from the base,<br />
distance dependant errors increase to<br />
the point of exceeding the accuracy<br />
required for most tasks.<br />
Communications: With GNSS<br />
equipment more readily available to<br />
users, licensing of UHF frequencies is<br />
getting crowded. Most people in built<br />
up areas will only get a 5W license,<br />
greatly restricting their baseline<br />
lengths. Even 25W licenses may<br />
only give you 10km range. Topology,<br />
buildings, trees and atmospherics<br />
all affect your baseline lengths<br />
and with the crowded frequencies,<br />
clashing of radio signals is common.<br />
Another consideration is future data<br />
bandwidth. The increasing number of<br />
satellites and GNSS Systems means<br />
more data that has to be transferred<br />

Survey Accessories – ikeGPS<br />
The ike1000 is a combination of a GPS,<br />
camera, rangefinder and compass in one<br />
instrument. Ike1000 is able to instantly<br />
provide the location of a site up to<br />
1000m away.<br />
A number of benefits<br />
immediately result:<br />
- The user can capture multiple points<br />
while remaining at a single site.<br />
- The user can remain safe, where<br />
physically collecting the points would<br />
put him/her at risk.<br />
- The data collection time can<br />
be reduced.<br />
The ike1000 is shock and water proof to<br />
IP67, and boasts a Windows Mobile<br />
computer, GPS, compass and<br />
inclinometer. ikeGPS simplifies GIS data<br />
capture to “point-and-shoot”. The<br />
targeted point location is calculated from<br />
the instrument readings, inclusive of local<br />
GPS location, compass bearing, pitch and<br />
roll and rangefinder distance. Cross-hairs<br />
are embedded into the image so the<br />
captured location data is 100% verifiable<br />
with an image that can always be<br />
referred back to for confirmation. ikeGPS<br />
integrates with data capture applications<br />
like ArcPad and comes with a range of<br />
optional accessories.<br />
