NEXT SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 9:30 & 11:15 A.M.
When Jesus Became God
Service offered by Revs. Wayne Arnason and Kathleen Rolenz
When Cil Knutsen bought the Service Auction sermon last spring, she knew
immediately that in some form, she wanted the ministers to preach a
sermon on the Nicene Creed. Does that sound boring The early centuries of
Christian belief and the process by which the Trinitarian creed about who
Jesus was became formalized is actually an amazing soap opera of passions,
personalities and intrigues. It’s a story that also reminds us of why the
Unitarians still cling to the Jesus we knew before he became God.
Our guest organist will be Dr. Warren Scharf, former Director of the
Conservatory of Music at Baldwin-Wallace College and the Music Director at
Old Stone Church for a number of years. Quite the legacy here in Cleveland!
WHAT’S HAPPENING TODAY!
TODAY - Morning Forum, 10:30 a.m.
Justice General Assembly, Phoenix 2012
David Petras, member of the Ohio Meadville District Board, will discuss the
unique aspects of the “Justice“ General Assembly in Phoenix, Arizona. This is
a new kind of national meeting directed toward social justice.
TODAY - Getting To Know UU Orientation
Enjoy a cup of java and meet with a few members of our church for a onehour
orientation on Unitarian Universalism and West Shore. You don't need
to sign up in advance...just come! Childcare is provided. If you have any
questions, please go to the Welcome Center in the Rotunda.
TODAY - New Art Show Debuts in Fireside Room
The winter exhibit, “BLUUE,” will emphasize the color blue in a variety of
works and artists' interpretation. The color symbolizes silence, tranquility,
and loneliness. Color theorists have long considered blue respectable,
trustworthy, pure and fresh. The "UU" in the title "BLUUE" is included to stir
our senses and enhance our relationship with a color in mind, body and
spirit. Reception in Fireside Room on Sunday, February 19, at 12:30 p.m.
TODAY - The Quest for New Orleans Begins
Join members of the New Orleans team as they kick off their fundraising
campaign hosting coffee hour after both services. They will be serving
delicious beignets (unique French Quarter pastries) and chicory coffee (as
well as the usual blends). Funds raised will help the large group of youth
from West Shore going on the mission in April. Merci!
THIS EVENING - Socrates Café Continues
Our interactive philosophy-discussion group continues to meet on the
second and fourth Sundays of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the
Fireside Room. Tamara Sims will facilitate the discussion this evening. If you
enjoy open, free-wheeling discussions on philosophy and life, please join us!
SERVING...NEEDS GREATER THAN YOUR OWN
The Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC)
The GCC table in the Rotunda today has advance voting applications for the March 6 election. The Greater Cleveland Congregations
are organizing a County Prosecutor Candidate Accountability Forum on Monday, February 20, from 7:00-9:00
p.m. at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Beachwood at which over 600 GCC members committed to come will ask the
candidates to commit to improving the way the office handles crucial issues in the criminal justice system. GCC cannot and
will not endorse candidates. But we do want to show them that these are voters presenting them with these requests, so
if you can come to this meeting, we ask you to bring you advance ballot to wave in the air at a certain point in the meeting
to remind the candidates what’s at stake for them
Guest at Your Table Fund Raising Results
Our annual drive to raise money for the UU Service Committee’s national and international emergency relief fund was a big
success. Between the kick-off “noisy” collection, the Rotunda wishing pond, and the GAYT boxes everyone took home, we
raised $1,138.18, slightly more than the previous year. Thanks to everyone at West Shore for your generosity.
Child Care Center Kid’s Resale Event
