Candidates may choose A) or B) and complete either C) or D)
A) ON-SITE Theory Exam:
This is a combination of multiple-choice, fill in the blanks, and short answer style questions with a
2-hour time limit. Marks are not deducted for spelling mistakes, however; writing must be legible.
Candidates must attain 75% or more to become certified. Must let the Master Trainer know you
would like this option.
B) CORRESPONDENCE Theory Exam:
You receive this exam after your training. You have 6 months from the date of the training to
complete or submit the program. If you are after the six month mark, you may still complete the
exams; however, you must pay a $35.00 rewrite fee when you submit the exams.
Our exams are short answer, fill in the blank and/or multiple choice as well as a short essay or
case study. This process is applied learning. It generally takes 4-6 hours to complete. You must
complete the exam in your own words – not copying the answer from the manual. Answers
copied directly out of the manual will not be accepted. Marks are not deducted for spelling
mistakes, however; writing must be legible. Exams are do be done individually and may not be
completed with assistance of others. We appreciate you keeping this information confidential.
All exams must be handed in with the practical evaluation (either onsite or correspondence video
submission). Candidates must attain 75% or more to become certified.
C) ON-SITE - Practical Assessment:
The practical assessment is with a small group of (3-5) instructors teaching each one other. The
Assessor will ask each individual instructor to design a segment of a typical water fitness program
(related to their level of certification). Generally, each instructor may choose to teach from the
deck or be in the water. Each candidate generally teaches a warm up, a Cardiovascular Set, 2-3
muscle sets, specific goal for level of certification and a warm down. Each of these segments will
be about 3-5 minutes. The Assessor will provide feedback after each person has completed the
specified tasks. The duration for a group assessment is approximately 2 hours. Candidates must
partake in the other exams as well as teaching their own segments. This option is not available
for Personal Trainers or Rehabilitation Specialists who must do option D).
D) Correspondence - Practical Assessment:

The candidate must submit a VHS video (home video photographed) showing specific skills and
drills as well as an entire class OR program that they have laid out in the theory exam. It will be
approximately 60 minutes in length. The assessor must be able to see, hear and understand the
instructor being tested; however, we do not expect professional videography.
For video submission, you must include a letter from a community representative or a supervisor
verifying that it was the person completing the exam submitting the video. For example, a
principle of a school, accountant, lawyer, town council. Exams are do be done individually and
may not be completed with assistance of others. We appreciate you keeping this information
confidential.
Additionally, each candidate will have to submit a “Instructor Performance Review evaluation” –
60 questions evaluating the participants’ class. We would prefer that a knowledgeable supervisor
complete the evaluation; however, if there is no one on site, the candidate may fill it in based on
the honor system. The Assessor will provide written feedback on the class based on the
“performance evaluation” forms. Candidates must achieve 75% or more on both practical and
theory exams to become certified. Music is optional.
