Thimblina Quilters “Tie It Up”
Submitted by Jane Buchanan, North
Perth Thumblina’s Club
On Saturday March 3, the North Perth
Thimblina’s met again at the North
Mornington Presbyterian Church.
We began with some organizational
details and received some extra
information for our Achievement
Books. President Tracy Stark opened
the meeting with the 4-H pledge.
Members shared how they were
progressing with their individual
‘quillow projects’ for the roll call.
Secretary Emily Skinner shared the
minutes from the last meeting. Leader
Joanne Elg led the Members in a
discussion about the progress of our
quilting projects, and we talked about
any problems or areas we needed
some help. Members were then given
some time to work on their quillows.
After awhile, some Members were
able to go and work on tying on the
large quilt.
Yummy snacks were enjoyed by
Members thanks to Emily MacKay.
All Members then were given the
opportunity to judge five different
pieced quilts. We learned about
ranking them, and giving good
supporting reasons for our decision
to place them. Some factors that
we talked about in our ranking were
the colour coordination and design
combinations.
A big thank you to our wonderful
Leaders, Joanne Elg, Carolyn
VanderHeiden, and Nancy Rothwell
for continuing to teach us more about
how to tie, stitch, and judge quilts. We
look forward to our next meeting on
Saturday March 10, at 6:30. (Posted on
Grenville Pizza Club
Submitted by Connor Halpenny, Grenville
4-H Dough Heads
This is the first time the Pizza Project
has been run in Grenville County.
Our Club, The Dough Heads, has
31 Members who love all kinds of
pizza, from pepperoni to meat lovers
and everything in between. We have
had pizza for every meal, even four
different breakfast pizzas and dessert
pizzas with fruit and pudding on top!
Next meeting we’re off to a local
restaurant to learn how they make
their pizza and to get to use a real
pizza oven! The best part of each
meeting–eating the pizza we make!
Wrap of Potato Club
Submitted by Mitchell Drysdale, Carleton
4-H Fallowfield Mashers
My name is Mitchell Drysale, I am
a Member of Carleton County 4-H
Clubs. There are many Clubs you can
join when you’re a Member and one
of the Clubs I am in now is a Potato
Club. We’ve made up a name for our
Club... “The Fallowfield Mashers”.
In the Club we are learning all about
potatoes. Did you know that PEI is
Canada’s leading potato province
Every meeting we are split into groups
and we are given a recipe to make. All
the recipes use potatoes in different
ways like potato pizza which uses
grated potatoes and potato chocolate
cake which uses mashed potatoes, my
favorite was scalloped potatoes which
uses sliced potatoes. Each Member is
asked to make potato recipes at home
for their families too. Older members
are suppose to make six recipes and
younger members are supposed to
make three. When we get together for
our meetings we have a final project
which is to make a recipe at home and
bring it to the meeting for everyone to
