Madera, Jose “Raul” Ros and Todd Tinder were working<br />

early one morning when <strong>the</strong>y saw two cars race by. Seconds<br />

later, Raul, who was working on a pole, felt <strong>the</strong> line<br />

shake. After investigating, Todd saw an accident had taken<br />

place. “Several people were ejected from <strong>the</strong> cars and lying<br />

on <strong>the</strong> ground,” said Todd. He called 911 and <strong>the</strong>n called<br />

his crew.<br />

The crew ga<strong>the</strong>red first aid kits and drove to <strong>the</strong> scene<br />

while Todd checked <strong>the</strong> victims’ vital signs. Melanio, who<br />

was supervising, made sure no electrical hazards were<br />

present and <strong>the</strong>n called <strong>the</strong> switching center to report <strong>the</strong><br />

accident. Martin and Raul administered first aid while<br />

Bryce and Todd turned <strong>the</strong>ir trucks’ emergency lights on<br />

and directed traffic around <strong>the</strong> site until <strong>the</strong> Cali<strong>for</strong>nia<br />

Highway Patrol arrived.<br />

“These men did everything<br />

possible to keep<br />

<strong>the</strong> victims safe and<br />

com<strong>for</strong>table until help<br />

arrived,” said Melanio. “I<br />

couldn’t be more proud.”<br />
