Friends Groups and
Catchment Groups in the
Shire of Mundaring
The Shire of Mundaring partners with EMRC through
the Eastern Hills Catchment Management Program to
provide support to Catchment Groups.
What are Friends Groups
One of the attractions of living in the Eastern Hills Region
is the magnificent surrounding bushland. One of the
ways you can contribute directly to the conservation of
the natural beauty of our region is by volunteering for one
of our Friends or Catchment groups.
Friends and Catchment Groups are groups made up of
volunteers who undertake bushcare activities in reserves
and on private property in Perth’s Eastern Hills Region.
The Shire of Mundaring has more than 80 Friends
Groups located throughout the Shire and five
catchment groups.
Friends Groups look after bushland on reserves through
planting of native trees and shrubs, weeding and dieback
treatment. Catchment Groups manage natural resources
across the region and on private property around rivers or
water bodies.
The restoration of bushland has many benefits, both
environmentally and socially. Native vegetation provides
habitat for fauna, naturally filters water supplies, protects
the soil from erosion and can be used for recreation.
Friends Groups are an essential part of the management
of the Shire’s natural areas and therefore contribute
significantly to conservation and preservation within the
Shire of Mundaring.
natural environment, both flora and fauna
