Scotia-Glenville High School
Ski and Snowboard Club
Here is how the high school Ski and Snowboard Club works:
1. Any level skier or snowboarder can join. You can take lessons or
just start out on the bunny hill until you feel comfortable to try
beginner trails. You can rent equipment locally or at the mountain.
See http://www.jiminypeak.com/group-rates for pricing.
2. We will be going to Jiminy Peak 7 Friday nights starting January.
The dates are: Jan. 4 th , 11 th , 18 th , 25 th and Feb. 1 st , 8 th and 15 th
We will leave right after school gets out and be back around 9pm.
3. A completed medical information form is required to sign up.
A helmet is required and greatly reduces the risk of serious injury.
4. You must sign up and pay for all 7 trips in advance. This is the
only way to ensure our low ticket price and ensure smooth
planning, setting up affordable transportation, etc. Therefore a
refund can not be guaranteed. The cost is $250 which covers 7 lift
tickets and transportation. Bus spots are first come first serve!
Medical Information Form and payment is due to Mr. Ross
Cash, check or money order, payee: Scotia Glenville High School
Friday, November 30 th
Yours truly,
Mr. Ryan Ross
Rooms: D5, A4, A13, A12, A17
FRIDAY MORNINGS: Make sure you prepare for anything. Bring
gloves, extra gloves, goggles, dress in layers, cover your skin, bring food
and water or money to get food and water, bring your phone, charge it,
bring something to do on the bus, bring all of your equipment, poles,
skis, board, boots, etc. You can leave your gear in PE13, next to the
fitness center or your car if you park at school.
LEAVING SCHOOL: We leave from the front of the school, right after
the 2:29 bell. Get to the bus with your equipment quickly. The sooner
we leave the more daylight we get. At 2:45 we will leave without you.
THE BUS RIDE: Food is typically allowed and you should eat and
hydrate. We have a wonderful reputation with Brown Bus for leaving
their busses clean and orderly. Please maintain that reputation by picking
up after yourselves. Also a certain level of noise is typical but do not let
the collective noise level get to a point where the bus driver can not do
his job. Our lives are in their hands! Above all else be great to our bus
company because they give us a great deal.
ARRIVING AT JIMINY: When we get to Jiminy Peak I will announce
the time you to be back at the bus, usually 8:00. You will be fined $1 for
every minute you are late. Plan accordingly! We can get charged extra if
the bus driver has to stay longer than we originally paid for. Luckily this
hasn't been a problem in the past, let's keep that going.
WHILE AT JIMINY: On any school function such as this, the school
code of conduct is to be followed and is enforced just as it would be at
school. Make good decisions and be safe!
COMING HOME: Use your cell phone to call your ride. I will let you
know when we get close. The school may or may not be open and I have
to stay with you until you are picked up.
TERRAIN PARKS: If you want to use the terrain parks, you must go to
jiminypeak.com and watch the safety video and fill out a waiver form
and bring it with you. You only have to do this once.

AUTHORIZATION FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT OF MINORS
October 9, 2012
CHILDS NAME_________________________________ DATE OF BIRTH________________
I/we being the parent or legal guardian(s) of the above named minor do hereby appoint: the ski
authorizing medical, dental or surgical care and hospitalization in my/our absence for the above
named minor.
I/we would also like to appoint (name) ______________________________________________
dental or surgical care and hospitalization in my/our absence for the above named minor.
*ALL INFORMATION MUST BE COMPLETED. Witness must be at least 18 years of age.
Note: With skiing and snowboarding there is always a risk of injury. Minors cannot be medically
treated without parent or guardian consent. It is essential that club members have with
them the telephone or cell numbers of where you can be reached on the day of
the ski trip. If this number differs from your home phone number, then the participant should
give this telephone number to the advisor upon entering the bus the morning of the ski trip. This
number will be noted in the ski book.
All possible measures will be taken to reach you in the event of any injury. However, if you can
not be reached and your child requires immediate attention, then this form authorizes the ski club
advisor for that particular trip to authorize treatment in your absence.
Questions? Mr. Ryan Ross | (518) 347-3600 | rross@sgcsd.net

Transportation
Brown Bus is the charter company that will transport us to and from ski areas. These are charter
coach buses not school buses. All gear must be packed in bags that will fit under the seat or in
the luggage rack above the seats or below the bus. Please do not bring huge bags.
Safety
All students must wear a helmet whether snowboarding or skiing! Goldstock’s Sporting Goods
will provide a 20% discount on all helmets sold to ski club members.
“Helmet use by skiers and snowboarders could prevent or reduce the severity of
44% of head injuries to adults, and 54% of head injuries to children under the age
of 15.” (U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission)
To ensure proper release of skis and snowboards, be sure to have a binding release check
performed by a qualified person. (Goldstock’s offers this service)
Ski and Snowboard Locks
It is highly suggested that all students lock their skis or snowboards at the ski areas. It is advised
to keep a record of the brand name, size of the equipment and any serial numbers. In the event of
theft, this may help you recover some of the cost from insurance companies or it may help us
locate stolen equipment. Students should also lock up any personal items at the ski areas.
Clothing and Cold Weather
The club is a ski and snowboard club. It will be cold. Be sure that your son/daughter has the
proper clothing for staying outside in very cold temperatures. It is most important that they have
goggles, ski jackets, ski pants, gloves or mittens and thermal underwear that will ensure their
warmth; I suggest purchasing a hat and a neck warmer to protect their face from windburn and
frostbite.
Parent Participants: If there is room on the bus, parents are invited to join us!
