ISSUE 5 CHRONICLE OF 2007 Chronicle of ChemChina in 2007 Oct. 24 www.chemchina.com.cn The President of ChemChina, Ren Jianxin, was invited to witness the launch of China's first lunar orbiter "Chang'e-I" in Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Mr. Ren exchanged ideas with relevant officials and attended celebrations together with top State leaders. Oct. 25 Provisional Methods of ChemChina on Safety Assessment Management was issued, and its implementation began. Oct. 27 The Release Conference of the 7 th Ranking of China's Largest Group Corporations and the 2 nd Ranking of China's 500 Most Competitive Enterprises was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC), in 2006, ChemChina was listed 35 th among China's top 500 largest group corporations and China's 100 leading group corporations; and 11 th among the Central SOEs (State-owned Enterprises) based on composite index. Within the chemical industry, ChemChina ranked first. Nov. 2 Provisional Methods of ChemChina for Comprehensive Budget Management was issued, and implementation was started. Nov. 15 Nov. 8 China's largest intermeshing GE580 Banbury mixer, developed and manufactured by Hunan Yiyang Rubber & Plastics Machinery Group Co., Ltd., passed acceptance testing. Nov. 7 ChemChina President Ren Jianxin, invited b y t h e l e a d i n g American periodical , a t t e n d e d t h e p u b l i c a t i o n ' s 1 1 t h Annual CEO Forum, which was held in Beijing. In the forum, Mr. Ren met with Mr. Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. B u s i n e s s W e e k T i a n j i n M a y o r D a i X i a n g l o n g , a n d ChemChina President Ren Jianxin laid the foundation stone at the formal groundbreaking of the BlueStar Tianjin Lingang New Chemical Material Base. A f t e r t h e g r o u n d b r e a k i n g c e r e m o n y o f t h e BlueStar Tianjin Lingang New Chemical Material Base, Zhang Gaoli, a member of the CPC Political Bureau and the Secretary of the Tianjin CPC Committee, arranged a meeting with the President of ChemChina, Ren Jianxin. Mr. Zhang expressed his support as well as thanks to ChemChina for building its largest advanced chemical material base in Tianjin Lingang Industrial Area (TLIA). He expressed hope that the Tianjin government will make every effort to help construction progress as scheduled. The Drying Technology and Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center, sponsored by Tianhua Institute of Chemical Machinery & Automation, won the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology to become a National Engineering and Technology Center. ISSUE 5 CHRONICLE OF 2007 Chronicle of ChemChina in 2007 Nov. 22 C h e m C h i n a p u t f o r w a r d a management idea of "zero discharge" as a strategic measure to intensify energy conservation and emission reduction in accordance with the Scientific Development Concept, striving to build a resource-saving a n d e n v i r o n m e n t a l l y f r i e n d l y enterprise. The Director General of the State Administration of Work Safety, Li Yizhong made survey tour of Harbin Petrochemical Co., Ltd. After hearing a report on production safety, he affirmed Harbin Petrochemical's achievements and encouraged the company to further strengthen its management of safety and worker health. Nov. 30 A large meeting about ChemChina's preparation for the company's 2007 final accounting and for training related to the new accounting standard was held in Beijing. ChemChina President Ren Jianxin addressed the meeting. Harbin Petrochemical Co., Ltd. successfully completed its 20,000 t/a maleic anhydride (MA) technology improvement project. The new unit came on stream. Haohua Yuhang Chemical Co., Ltd. put its 200,000 t/a PVC unit and 200,000 t/a ion-exchange membrane caustic soda unit on stream. Zhenghe Petrochemical Co., Ltd.'s 120,000 t/a acrylic acid and ester project (phase I) was completed and commissioned. Dec. 22 The 36.00R51 giant all-steel radial engineering tires that were selfdeveloped by Haohua South China (Guilin) Rubber Co., Ltd. and listed in the State Science and Technology Supporting Program, were successfully manufactured. The products incorporated several patented technologies and other IPRs, unprecedented in this field domestically. Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co., Ltd. launched its 120,000 t/a PVC unit and its 100,000 t/a ion-exchange membrane caustic soda unit. The reconstruction and upgrading of the soda ash unit of Xinjiang Chemical Group Co., Ltd. was completed successfully and this new 200,000 t/a unit went on stream. www.chemchina.com.cn Nov. 28 The President of ChemChina, Ren Jianxin, was invited by Peking University to give a special speech in the main meeting hall of the university. Mr. Ren's talk, "The Three- Word Principles of ChemChina's Overseas Acquisition," was ardently welcomed by students and attracted attention from the media and from scholars. (Above) Dec. 10 Provisional Methods of ChemChina on Assets Management was issued, and implementation began. Dec. 19 ChemChina decided to make China BlueStar Petrochemical Corporation its directly managed subsidiary. Dec. 29 The annual meeting of ChemChina was held in Beijing. President Ren Jianxin gave a keynote speech about advancing the pace and quality of growth. In his speech, Mr. Ren reviewed the development of the three year old ChemChina and the achievements of 2007. He also outlined what should be done in 2008.
