Standard Mountboard - Mountboard that does not in every way comply either with the Cotton<br />
Museum or Conservation <strong>Standards</strong> of the Fine Art Trade Guild. It may or may not contain<br />
elements of conservation quality. There are minimum Guild standards that apply to Standard<br />
Mountboard regarding its markings, colour, adhesives and quality control to ensure it is fit <strong>for</strong><br />
the purpose of framing to Guild minimum standards.<br />
TAPPI – An acronym <strong>for</strong> the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry<br />
Unbuffered – no alkaline filler<br />
Virgin Fibre (Primary Fibre) – Pulp used <strong>for</strong> papermaking that has not previously been used in<br />
any paper or board product. (PPT)<br />
Wax Pick Test – A commonly used test to indicate surface strength.<br />
White Core – This denotes the colour of the core of mountboard and does not imply conservation<br />
or museum quality specifications have been met.<br />
Zeolite – An inert crystalline aluminosilicate that has an affinity <strong>for</strong> specific molecules. Naturally<br />
occurring but often man-made to specific per<strong>for</strong>mance characteristics. Also called molecular<br />
sieves or traps.<br />
